I discovered this while driving by and decided to check it out. The buildings are excellently preserved and the signage describes what one would want to know about them. There were no staff on hand at the time, but I would guess they were not far away. There is an excellent trail of moderate difficulty going to a marvelous waterfall which I recommend doing.

I've lived close to hear for 30 years and never knew about this little trail. I'm not talking about the official interpretive center or blockhouse site or that stuff--it's all fine--I'm speaking of the trail out to Station Cove Falls.

Drive past the main entrance and park on the pullout on the left side of the road (opposite side from the main entrance) and there is a nice, easy, not very long stroll out to a beautiful waterfall. Good for kids.

Station Cove Falls is one of the prettiest in South Carolina. The trail is nice and flat. The trail passes a few different environments, including a beaver pond, and a hemlock cove. If you fork right instead of going to the falls you can walk all the way to Oconee State Park and can connect to the trails there (and you won't have to pay for admission to the park.) The historic building is pretty neat as well.
