A trip to the tea plantation is worth it for the gift shop alone! Free tastings of tea, hot and cold, sweet and non-sweetened. The boxes of tea, hand cream and soaps make the Best souvenirs and be sure to get them here for the BEST price. We took the trolley tour ( had dollar off coupon from the Tanger Outlet Coupon book) which is definitely worth it and VERY interesting.

My family and I visited this plantation on a recent trip to Charleston. I had found this online but wasn't sure what to expect. The plantation is located about 30 minutes south of Charleston. When you arrive you self park and are directed to a large gift shop in front of the tea processing plant. There are several types of hot and cold tea available for free at a self serve counter. There is a free short 10 minute tour of the processing plant with an informative movie. There is also a trolley ride tour of the plantation itself. It costs $10 for adults, $5 for children and lasts about 40 minutes. The tours are very informative and I learned a lot about tea. Recommended.

Where else in North America can you see Tea growing? Nowhere! So, when we were in Charleston we decided to check out the Charleston Tea Plantation. The trip down Wadmalaw Island was worth it in its own right. Beautiful tree shaded roads looking like the "old south" at its best.
The tour of the plantation and the tour of the tea processing were fascinating. We learned about how tea is grown and processed. Well worth the small fee.

This is a beautiful and interesting attraction. We went on a Saturday in the spring. Took a factory tour and the trolley tour around the grounds. Very informative. All the free tea (hot and cold) you can drink plus some interesting stuff in the gift shop. Beautiful drive to the plantation - about 30 minutes or so from Charleston. The tea had not started growing for the season yet, but it was still fun. Make sure to check out the nearby Angel Oak (really old and big live oak).

I love to go in May for the First Flush Tea. It is a quite off the beaten path relaxing drive. There is a small fee for trolley tour of the plantation and to see the processing of the tea.
