“Off the Beaten Path Distillery”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

I read reviews before I ventured to the Firefly Distillery so I knew they didn't have tours. The tasting room is in a rustic shed-like building. You can taste 6 different beverages for $6. The total tasting amounts to 1 oz. so don't get too worried. They have some farm animals that you can see as you wander the property. A winery is also on premises. They also have tastings and a gift shop. This is a great add-on to a visit to the Charleston Tea Plantation (the only tea plantation in the US). They use tea from that plantation to make their Firefly Sweet Tea vodka and Firefly Skinny Tea vodka.

“Not What We Expected”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

There is no tour of a distillery. There is a tasting (for a fee) and a gift shop. That was it. We happened to walk into the barn where they do the bottling and labeling and the workers were friendly and answered all our questions. That was it...

“Cute place & good vodka”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

You wouldn't just happen upon this place. But you do need a GPS or good directions. It's off the beaten path, but worth the trip. Having done almost all one can do (that we know of) in Charleston, our local son suggested this vodka distillery. It was great! $6. for a nice vodka tasting & lots of banter with the bar staff. A fun hour or so on any afternoon. Best to have a dd, though, as it's not a large amount of vodka, but enough to make your breath smell like a distillery all on it's own.

“Interesting Facility”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

We had an opportunity to sample the product prior to our visit. Check before treking out to be sure they are open for business. We thought they were and were surprised to find that they were not open for any tastings. Fortunately, the person on site was able to help us with our desired purchase. They have quite a variety of liqueurs, vodkas, and moonshines.

“Awesome little spot!”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

This place is an awesome little spot! Out in the woods, very tranquil, cute decor, good staff, and excellent alcohol. The distillery tasting room offers vodka tastings, rum tastings, moonshine tastings, and liquer tastings. For $6.00 you can sample 6 different types of alcohol. I personally loved the sweet tea vodka which is what put them on the map. The sweet tea vodka is actually made with tea from America's only tea plantation (right next door). I loved the banana pudding liquer and found the chocolate pecan pie to be the best of the liquers as I tried all three (banana pudding, coconut cake, and chocolate pecan pie). The liquers are infused with the actual foods so if you have a food allergy you cannot try them...needless to say they are amazing! The wine tasting room is right across and what makes their wine special is that it is fermented from muscadine grapes. My personal favorite of the wines was the Magnolia, which is a white wine (even though I like red wine). In both tastings you are allowed to keep your glass, which is a nice little souvenir! They host events on Saturdays with music, etc. There is also a very small farm in the back with some chickens and goats...nice entertainment for the kids! The only downfall is that they don't offer an actual tour of the distillery (ex. the fermenting tanks, the process of fermenting, bottling, etc.). Overall....great!
