Wyndham Vacation Resort Lake Marion

We are owners within the Wyndham timeshare system. We chose this resort because of proximity to Charleston (less than an hour away) and availability (we checked in on Christmas Day and stayed for almost a week). For us, it was, as expected, a very nicely appointed 2BR unit. We're not boaters any more, but this place MUST be packed when it's warmer as location adjacent to Lake Marion is a homerun for those who like to boat and/or fish since piers are right outside your unit and launching/exit ramps are inside the grounds of the facility itself. We were disappointed that the pool wasn't heated and the workout room and other "resort" touches were not evident as at other Wyndham resorts we've visited. Front desk staff members were exceptionally friendly and helpful, but the support amenities have GOT to be fourseason to include providing capacity and meeting the interests of guests like us who come in winter to SC because it's relatively speaking "warmer" than our Indiana home. No heated pool? Really?!?!??! No heated whirlpool??!??! Disappointing....and therefore, not VERY GOOD, but instead ranked AVERAGE because of inattention to residents in all four seasons. YES, a nominal orkout room. YES, DVDs to check out. YES to courteous support staff, including maintenance folks. YES to a very comfy and VERY nicely appointed assigned unit. But no one to talk to about locale sights etc. Yes, we know it was Christmas plus a few days, but this IS a resort destination (granted, in Santee, SC, but major tourist locales are within an hour or two) and we drove 12 hours from Indiana to arrive as tourists. So, if tourism brings money into the local economy, then resort support staff should be available if even on a part time appointment basis during a holiday season. We had NO ONE to talk with for as little as 5 to 10 minutes except the kind front desk staff who admitted they had no information to pass on to guests except minimal details about checking in etc. We read reviews and called ahead for the GPS....it was simple to find.

Room Tip: If elevators aren't a personal problem for you, then ask for unit on second or third floor and...

Wyndham Vacation Resorts Lake Marion (#A863) (Submitted to TripAdvisor 1/27/2014. See full version on TUG 1/27/2014)

401 Bass Drive
Santee, SC 29142
803-854-5720

Caution, the addresses do not GPS well sometimes; however, but the place is real easy to locate. Exit Interstate 95 at Exit 98 and head west on SC6 to the signal at CVS. That is Bass Drive. Turn right. Wyndham is less than a mile down the road on your left. You can’t miss it. This address works in Google maps: 500 Trillium Court Santee, SC 29142

Resort grounds seem to be well maintained but due to the cold temperatures, everything was brown and frostbit. Rooms are nice and large and beds were comfortable. Everything was clean.

Parking is more than adequate and there are places for those who bring boats. Nice floating docks right out the back of each building with boat slips. The resort is not “on” Lake Marion but a finger off the lake called Chapel Branch. View from the balcony overlooking the dock and water is nice. The actual lake is about ½ mile to the north. There is not a launch site at the resort; it’s ½ up the road. They do not charge to tie up at the dock.

They don’t have any planned activities. You have to make your own. They provide horseshoe, corn hole, and volleyball equipment. They only have a couple of charcoal grills and picnic tables. Nice looking unheated pool but no hot tub. Clubhouse has a small exercise room with TV, coffee and tea, and some seating.

Santee doesn’t offer much amusement unless you are into ‘fishing or quiet and laidback’ but we loved it. We enjoyed visiting the wildlife refuges, parks, restaurants, antique and thrift stores in the smaller towns around the area.

Had a few issues but nothing major.

It took us a while to find the place with our GPS but it was WELL worth it. We have a time share and used our points to stay there. We got a 2 bedroom place and all I can say is that I WISH I had this place as an apartment. It was a luxury 2 bedroom apartment with 2 full baths, living room, dinning room (not a dinning area but a full table for 6), full kitchen and huge balcony overlooking the lake and boat dock. Would I stay here again? In a heart beat. The staff was great, the place was immaculate and inviting. I highly recommend it. The ONLY suggestion is that you call to get directions. The place is parallel to I-95 BUT the road you take to it leads you to believe there is nothing there but an old motel but once you go about 1/2 mile past that old motel, you come across the resort on the left. It looks like a condominium or apartment complex. You'll be glad you stayed there.

This was our first visit to Lake Marion. The resort itself doesn't look much when you drive up; however the condos themselves are beautiful and have fabulous views of Lake Marion. This is a perfect resort to relax and enjoy the view. It is right off I-95 and a perfect spot to break a long drive to Florida. We will be back!!

As with most Wyndams, this condo was very large, comfortable and accommodating. The view of Lake Marion is 12 minute walk down the road. The view from the condo is an inlet from the lake and not much to see. Santee itself has nothing to offer per say. Two golf courses, lots of fast food and some very good local restaurants. Charleston is almost an hour away and a easy drive. Would we stay here again? Probably not.

Room Tip: All rooms face "the water front". Buildings are three stories tall.

We thoroughly loved our time at Lake Marion. Such a peaceful and quiet place. We got in at night and had no idea what an amazing view we had from our porch until the sun came up the next morning! We enjoyed eating our meals on the porch because the view was incredible. The staff told us some bald eagles had a nest you could see across the lake. This resort is very quiet - just the perfect escape for a few days. Our 3 br. unit was wonderfully decorated with a lake theme. It was spotlessly cleaned. We had two rooms with king beds and one room with two doubles. There was plenty of room to spread out. If you're the outdoors type, you'll enjoy fishing and boating. We enjoyed walking through the nature preserve nearby (and I was glad I didn't find any alligators, but I did see an incredibly huge banana spider!). We also checked out lovely downtown Elloree - don't miss the world's biggest teapot behind the pharmacy. Something kitchy and small town unique.

Room Tip: Building 4 has the best view of the eagle's nest. I'm not sure you could get a bad room at...

Stayed here for one night while on a recent trip down I-95. Had a three bedroom unit as we had eight people. Two bedrooms with king beds, one bedroom with two double beds and a large sleeper sofa in the living room. Having stayed at a number of Wyndham resorts I would say that the unit was very nice and upgraded. View from the balcony overlooking a portion of the lake was nice. There were numerous restaurants nearby. Quite and peaceful. I can't say much about Santee other than it does not appear that there is much to do apart from lake fishing and boating. As I said in my title - okay for a short stay but not a week. Before I forget - we got to the resort after 6:00 PM. Despite having a reservation the room was not ready. There were others in the lobby area who had been waiting for two hours or more. We were notified around 7:15 PM that our room was ready.
