“Excellent place!”
Reviewed November 29, 2011

We only stayed here two nights - on our way to and from Florida. The location is so convenient for an overnight stop as it's right off of I-95. And that might be one of the only negatives about this resort - there is a bit of road noice from the interstate since it's so close.

The resort is fairly small, only a small activities building that serves as the check-in building, and a small outdoor pool.

The units all face a small lake (inlet?) and the view in November was spectacular with all the trees. Very nice. We saw a bunch of families fishing on the piers and it does look like a relaxing place to unwind for a bit. There really is nothing to speak of in the surrounding town. They even give you a map of highlighted business they recommend, I'm guessing you should probably avoid the others. Ha. We drove into Charleston twice - it is an easy 45-minute trip into downtown.

The unit itself is very, very nice. We had a 3-bedroom and it was probably among the most spacious of any timeshare I've been in. All of the rooms were huge. The bathrooms were the only thing that weren't as impressive but they were still plenty large enough. The decor is just lovely and very updated and new. The beds and especially the linens were really cozy and comfortable. The kitchen looked brand new and the TVs were all large and flat-screened. I can't say enough good things about the furnishings and decor of this place.

We were on the ground floor and yes, you can hear every single step of the people above you. The folks upstairs got up at 5:30 a.m. and proceeded to walk around non-stop for 3 hours. I'm not really sure what they were doing but we certainly heard them doing it. So I would definitely request a top-floor unit.

All in all I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick weekend getaway or maybe a fishing/boating vacation. It's definitely up to Wyndham's standards and it's one of the prettiest units I've stayed in.

Very nice Wyndham resort. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a two bedroom unit that was very spacious. The units were very modern and relatively new. They had big sized patios looking over the lake, with a nice ceiling fan over head. The pool was very nice. It was always clean and never really crowded. There was plenty of sun or shade available at the pool area with umbrella tables to relax under. The town is limited for entertainment, but it does has some great local restaurants. Charleston and Edisto Beach make great day trips. Also, some great State and National parks are nearby (Congaree & Poinsett). Wi Fi is available in the units and the pool area. Only negative about the resort was you could really hear the people walking around in the unit above you. I would request a third floor unit.

Facility is very clean, modern, and spacious, however there is very little to do if you do not have a boat. The surrounding towns also offer little in entertainment options.

We just got back from a family reunion at this Wyndham resort in Santee, SC. I have a few comments.

Pros---
-Condo was a nice size and well-appointed. We had a three bedroom end unit. All three bedrooms were a good size and each had its own bathroom. The master and smallest bedroom baths were ensuite. The afternoon sun really made the place nice and bright.
-Balcony was a good size although there were only two chairs for a unit that could sleep eight.
-Plenty of parking
-Dock was very close
-Friendly people in the office

Cons---
-Not much insulation between the floors. We didn't hear voices or televisions but the walking came through very clearly. We had someone who definitely was on a different schedule than us. They woke me up every night (the last night at 3:30 am) with heavy walking back and forth. That was with two fans going and using earplugs. This is not a new complaint for this location. If you are a light sleeper, you may want to try to get the third floor. When we checked in I asked how quiet the units were and the office person avoided answering my question. After one night I could see why. She admitted the day we left that it is a problem. Wyndham bought these buildings from a developer so they were not necessarily up to Wyndham standards. I hope they can correct the sound issue when it comes time for renovations.
-Master bath didn't have a spa tub. Not a big deal, just surprising.
-Pool had water but it wasn't open for swimming. The clubhouse isn’t open yet.
-If you don't fish there isn't much to do there.
-Pollen was very bad
-Hard to get a cell phone connection.

Other stuff---
-Santee State Park is nearby
- Charleston is about one hour away
- We enjoyed at day trip to Boone Hill Plantation. They sold strawberries at the café that were just picked that morning. Yum!
-The end of the road past the resort is closed but you can ride bikes or walk across a closed section of a bridge that used to be 301. We saw some very pretty sunrises from the bridge.
- We rented a pontoon boat from Lake Marion Resort and Marina for a half day. We mostly saw osprey nesting.

This review is duplicated in the Santee forum, due to technical difficulties.

Okay, let’s start off with the correct driving instructions on how to get there.
I-95 exit 98. Head North on SC -6, at the traffic light in town, next to the Horizon gas station, turn right at the light. Yes, it is a dead end. Go down about ¾ mile and you will see the property on your left.

They are still building the main-center; check-in is in a building trailer. It is not as bad as it sounds. Check-in was pretty smooth; Hope was very helpful and has some good recommendations in case you need any.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit on the main floor. The unit was new, to fairly new. Well furnished and supplied with all the necessities. The kitchen has all Stainless steel appliances, toaster, cuisine art coffeemaker, the cone kind and it was missing the filter holder, so if you are bringing paper filters, bring the cone shaped ones. A blender and missing a cookie sheet. It came with dish detergent, 3 dishwasher balls and 1 set of shampoo/conditioner. Plenty of pillows, towels and blankets.
The unit was clean, and did not really have any issues. Nice, clean, new, and in good condition. Towel and linen exchange is on Wednesday’s. Just hang the card on the door.
There really is not any audible construction noise coming from what I believe will be check-in, pool and recreation center. Again, besides fishing and boating, there really are no activities that you can do at this property.

The only major issue I have with this property.
There is NO INTERNET CONNECTION ANYWHERE ON-SITE. (As of 11/15/09).
This comment is for Wyndham (Come on Wyndham, I’ll pay for it, but to have none????)
We actually had to cruise and “take” internet from the Travelodge (park in the Russell Stover store parking lot, or at the Holiday Inn. (These 2 were the fastest) Thank you for being so kind and enable me to get connected.

There are no trails at the property to go for a walk; you can go down the road and cross Lake Marion on the old Bridge. Runs next to I-95, so it will not be quiet. Go can dock your boat or canoe, and of course fish off one off the many docks that they have.(5 docks). Housekeeping was around all day. The units are fairly loud if you are used to silence, during our stay there were not many kids around so it was quiet. This property is a good base, but there is nothing to do on-site and of course they do not have internet. TV had enough channels. There is a Food lion just down the street and a Piggly Wiggly as well. The nearest Wal-Mart we could find was in Summerville off I-26.

There is a Cracker Barrel, (food was ok), a Chinese restaurant Food is to be ok according to others), A Thai/Mexican and several chain restaurants in town. The outlets are pretty much deserted. For outlet shopping you are better off going to the Tanger outlets just outside off Charleston.

Things to do:
Charleston, of course, ----------nice city to go and explore with or without kids. It is about a 60 minute ride if that. We had lunch at the brewery (See other review.) Walked around a bit, shopped at the market. We came back because we liked it when we were there a few months ago. Bring your camera; there are some great pictures to be taken.

Rent a boat,------- we used Lake Side Marina, on Hope’s recommendation and they were great. Nice people, not looking to scam you. They are about 8 miles from I-95 going South on SC-6, you will see a sign for Lake side Marina and turn left. We rented a Jon boat with electric motor for $35,00 could have had it all day I believe, They have motor boat, pontoons etc. Check with them what you need.

Edisto Gardens in Orangeburg, ---------about 45 minutes drive. It is cute and free. We looked at Middleton Place ($25/adult general admission $5/kid) this is a whole day event. Magnolia Plantation, next door ($15/adult, $10/kid)

We did not go into Santee Park, played golf or fished. Which are the other main things to do here. A good source of information will be the Tourist information office on SC-6, you’ll need their expertise after 4 days, unless you like golf and fishing.

Columbia, ----about 60 minutes take SC-301 to I-26, it will save you 20 minutes and it is a good drive. We went to the Children’s Museum in downtown Columbia. General admission was $9.50 adult and Children. It is a pretty interactive display, a good place to be for a couple of hours on a rainy day. The state museum is across the street, we did not go see that one.

Santee Dam/Harry’s Fish Camp-----------Follow the sign for Santee Dam on SC-6 to SC-45. Direct Lake Access. Nice guy’s Harry and Steve, Father & Son, have been running the tackle shop and cottages for a while there.

Mepkin Abbey----just outside Monks Corner, nice grounds to stroll around, (free), the tour of the abbey starts at 11.30 am and 3 pm, check their website. ($5 adult, kids free). Also a nice gift shop on site, with plenty of products made by the local monks and from around the country. Buy some drizzle; it is made by the Moncks and pretty tasty.

I hope this helps. Enjoy
