Description: Now entering their 25th year of operation, Salters and Elizabeth McClary have established what is irrefutably one of the Lowcountry’s best and most sought after restaurants. The story behind the dream-come-true is interesting. The restaurant was named for Frank Marlow – the gentleman who operated Marlow's General Store (for forty years!) where the restaurant now sits. Natives remember the store – and Frank – with obvious fondness.Salters worked as a bag boy at Marlow's during high school. Some years later he confided his dream of opening a restaurant to his former employer. Frank promptly announced his intention to retire and proposed his old store as the perfect spot for the new venture. In a matter of months, one Island institution was transformed into another. History repeats itself in that folks clamor to get to Frank’s. Then and now, Frank’s is a Pawleys classic.Featured in Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Southern Living, National Restaurant Magazine, and South Carolina Living Getaway with Sandra Lee, Frank's is really two restaurants in one. In the main dining room, there's candlelight and white linens and a bustling bistro atmosphere that is both intimate and energizing. The food is award winning. There is an extensive selection of appetizers for those who enjoy exploring lots of options or eating a bit lighter, as well as several new entrees. The ambiance here is decidedly elegant, but in no way stuffy. Don’t wait for a special occasion to give it a try.Frank's Outback is – quite literally "out back" of Frank's. Here, beneath an umbrella of trees strung with lights, there's a marvelous open-air bar, expansive decks, an enormous fireplace and a cozy indoor dining area, as well. Private rooms are available. It’s a bit more casual than Frank’s, but no less appealing. Lots of appetizers, small plates, gourmet pizza from the wood-burning pizzas and several specials daily. It must be noted that Frank’s and Frank’s Outback Bars have great atmosphere and are favored by locals. Many meet at Frank’s for an end of the day celebration. The wine list, hand-selected by the owners, is reasonably priced but reads like a who's-who of the world’s vineyards. Many of them are available by the glass. Both bars open at 4:00 PM. With free Wi-Fi, one could finish their work in a relaxed environment, grab a favorite appetizer or stay for dinner to make it the perfect ending to the day. There’s no place quite like Frank’s and Outback. The best advice comes firsthand, so ask any local where to eat. Chances are Frank’s will be at the top of their list. The professional wait staff is outstanding. Reservations are essential, so please call ahead!

“Great outdoor dining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2013 via mobile

We enjoyed Frank's Outback very much tonight. Steven did a great job as server. Wine list was good and interesting. Had a nice cab from Mendoza and friends had pic poul. Shrimp and risotto was rich and delicious. Scallops were tender with a nice outer crust. Atmosphere is lovely outside. Caramel cake was incredible end to the meal. Definitely will be back!

“Deep Fried Devilled Eggs!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2013

Our first visit when staying with friends in Georgetown, and what a super surprise. Really liked the different menu / range of dishes starting with the soups which come in Taste, Cup, & Bowl, then going on to Snacks, Appetisers, Small Plates, & Entrees. We started with some Snacks with our cocktails - Deep Fried Devilled Eggs, Southern Spring Roll, and Truffle Fries! Just fabulous, and there was talk of continuing with this for the whole dinner! However, we went on to soups and small plates. The onion soup is old school - rich and oniony. Small plates were lamb, steak, and ravioli - all of which received high praise - and was certainly enough food after snacks and soup! Good wine list. Service very professional, and some of the waiters have been at Franks for 20 years - tells you a lot about a restuarant.

“So good we ate here twice on our vacation!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2013

We ate here for my birthday the first time due to the high tripadvisor ratings, and they were right on! While waiting for our table inside the restaurant, we sat at the bar and had drinks and the free appetizers. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. For dinner we had the scallops, and the flounder meal, both which were delicious. Also had the she crab soup, which was the best we have ever had. Our waiter was very good, sorry can't remember his name. We enjoyed it so much that we returned for a second meal later in the week, for our anniversary, and had excellent food and service again. We would have liked to have tried the Outback seating area, but they were booked solid, so we ate indoors again. Will return whenever we are in the area on vacation again, highly recommend!

“Our anniversary was a memorable experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2013

We recently celebrated our anniversary at Frank's Out Back. Knowing it was our anniversary the staff went out of their way to make it special. We were treated to a bottle of champagne and Steve our waiter couldn't do enough to ensure our meal was a delight. That evening we enjoyed live music as well while we dined on wonderful crab cakes, grouper and steak. The layered caramel cake is not to be missed. We will definitely return to Franks when visiting the area again.

“Terrific find between Charlston and Myrtle Beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2013

After a day of site-seeing and shopping in Charlston, we found Franks in our search for dinner. The crowded parking lot was a good sign however, we are concerned that because we didn't make a reservation, that we would be disappointed. The Outback was full, however, reception made a quick call to inside and found a table. We were immediately seated and began a great dining experience. Our waiter, RJ, was knowledgeable, friendly, funny and appropriately attentive.
We began with she crab soup which was the best I've had. RJ then explained the specials for the evening for both the small plates and the full entrees. We chose a 4 oz tenderloin with an incredible risotto and the special lamb chops. Both were outstanding and left room for the delicious blackberry cobbler with ice cream. A truly outstanding experience.
