Description: Now entering their 25th year of operation, Salters and Elizabeth McClary have established what is irrefutably one of the Lowcountry’s best and most sought after restaurants. The story behind the dream-come-true is interesting. The restaurant was named for Frank Marlow – the gentleman who operated Marlow's General Store (for forty years!) where the restaurant now sits. Natives remember the store – and Frank – with obvious fondness.Salters worked as a bag boy at Marlow's during high school. Some years later he confided his dream of opening a restaurant to his former employer. Frank promptly announced his intention to retire and proposed his old store as the perfect spot for the new venture. In a matter of months, one Island institution was transformed into another. History repeats itself in that folks clamor to get to Frank’s. Then and now, Frank’s is a Pawleys classic.Featured in Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Southern Living, National Restaurant Magazine, and South Carolina Living Getaway with Sandra Lee, Frank's is really two restaurants in one. In the main dining room, there's candlelight and white linens and a bustling bistro atmosphere that is both intimate and energizing. The food is award winning. There is an extensive selection of appetizers for those who enjoy exploring lots of options or eating a bit lighter, as well as several new entrees. The ambiance here is decidedly elegant, but in no way stuffy. Don’t wait for a special occasion to give it a try.Frank's Outback is – quite literally "out back" of Frank's. Here, beneath an umbrella of trees strung with lights, there's a marvelous open-air bar, expansive decks, an enormous fireplace and a cozy indoor dining area, as well. Private rooms are available. It’s a bit more casual than Frank’s, but no less appealing. Lots of appetizers, small plates, gourmet pizza from the wood-burning pizzas and several specials daily. It must be noted that Frank’s and Frank’s Outback Bars have great atmosphere and are favored by locals. Many meet at Frank’s for an end of the day celebration. The wine list, hand-selected by the owners, is reasonably priced but reads like a who's-who of the world’s vineyards. Many of them are available by the glass. Both bars open at 4:00 PM. With free Wi-Fi, one could finish their work in a relaxed environment, grab a favorite appetizer or stay for dinner to make it the perfect ending to the day. There’s no place quite like Frank’s and Outback. The best advice comes firsthand, so ask any local where to eat. Chances are Frank’s will be at the top of their list. The professional wait staff is outstanding. Reservations are essential, so please call ahead!

“Great reliable meal, service and atmosphere”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

Family has been coming to Pawleys Island for a number of years and Frank's Restaurant continues to be top notch. We were seated in the restaurant as the Out Back is not open on Monday's. The decor inside is nicer than most in the area with a relaxed atmosphere. The food continues to be fresh and innovative e.g special appetizer was a sautéed peach wrapped in prosciutto w/ mascarpone cheese & dressed in a balsamic glaze. We had the special appetizer, the tuna nacho, crab cakes, trio of lamb chops, grouper and the mahi-mahi dinner special. All were very good and would order each again without hesitation. The desert menu was fabulous as well. We had the blackberry cobbler (the crust seemed like a combination crumb/crust) and some fudge chocolate cake w/ caramel - both delicious. Service was very good and knowledgable about the menu. We will return next trip and want to make the Out Back next visit.

“One of the best meals in a restaurant.”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

It's just so rare to be able to have the full dining experience with great preparation, flavors, excellent service from the moment you walk in to variety of selection of wine, libations and food! Not expected to encounter such an experience in Pawley's Island and look forward to our return! Attention to detail from the dining room or garden experience to the servers and bus/water servers. Thank you for making our vacation stay a memorable one+

“Another fabulous meal at Frank's”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

My family and I have vacationed in the Pawley's Island / DeBordieu area since 1989 and we always have at least one mreal at Frank's. My wife, aldult daughter, her friend and myself were there on Wed August 14 for dinner and had another superb meal. Lewis was our waiter, he has waited on us before and he is always great. The fried oyter appetizer and the fried green tomatoe appetizer were both cooked perfectly. I had the fried grouper which is one of their specialties and it was also perfect. The three ladies all had beaf filets (they had been eating seafood and wanted a change) and they all said it was one of the best steaks ever. They have a good wine list with a nice price spread so you don't have to pay a fortune for a good bottle or two of wine. All in all another fabulous meal at Frank's, make sure you make reservation at least three or four days in advance as it is a very popular spot.

“Enjoyable Fine Dining Experience”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

Last evening ten (10) friends and family members dined at Frank's outback restaurant venue. We had reservations for eight (8) which they quickly and professionally moved us our group to an adequately sized table in a back dining area. Ashley was our waitress and she did an outstanding job of serving. Our group enjoyed an array of seafood and steak dishes. Collectively we agreed that the food was very good. The only issue(s), which was quickly resolved by Ashley, was our mash potatoes and grits were cold. While we did enjoy the food our group did feel that the food we enjoyed two days prior at Hot Fish Club was actually better at a cheaper price.

Overall Frank's always offers a top caliber dining experience. It is quite pricey so we generally reserve our visits to special occasions or celebrations. It is probably one of the best restaurants in South Carolina.
