Description: Now entering their 25th year of operation, Salters and Elizabeth McClary have established what is irrefutably one of the Lowcountry’s best and most sought after restaurants. The story behind the dream-come-true is interesting. The restaurant was named for Frank Marlow – the gentleman who operated Marlow's General Store (for forty years!) where the restaurant now sits. Natives remember the store – and Frank – with obvious fondness.Salters worked as a bag boy at Marlow's during high school. Some years later he confided his dream of opening a restaurant to his former employer. Frank promptly announced his intention to retire and proposed his old store as the perfect spot for the new venture. In a matter of months, one Island institution was transformed into another. History repeats itself in that folks clamor to get to Frank’s. Then and now, Frank’s is a Pawleys classic.Featured in Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Southern Living, National Restaurant Magazine, and South Carolina Living Getaway with Sandra Lee, Frank's is really two restaurants in one. In the main dining room, there's candlelight and white linens and a bustling bistro atmosphere that is both intimate and energizing. The food is award winning. There is an extensive selection of appetizers for those who enjoy exploring lots of options or eating a bit lighter, as well as several new entrees. The ambiance here is decidedly elegant, but in no way stuffy. Don’t wait for a special occasion to give it a try.Frank's Outback is – quite literally "out back" of Frank's. Here, beneath an umbrella of trees strung with lights, there's a marvelous open-air bar, expansive decks, an enormous fireplace and a cozy indoor dining area, as well. Private rooms are available. It’s a bit more casual than Frank’s, but no less appealing. Lots of appetizers, small plates, gourmet pizza from the wood-burning pizzas and several specials daily. It must be noted that Frank’s and Frank’s Outback Bars have great atmosphere and are favored by locals. Many meet at Frank’s for an end of the day celebration. The wine list, hand-selected by the owners, is reasonably priced but reads like a who's-who of the world’s vineyards. Many of them are available by the glass. Both bars open at 4:00 PM. With free Wi-Fi, one could finish their work in a relaxed environment, grab a favorite appetizer or stay for dinner to make it the perfect ending to the day. There’s no place quite like Frank’s and Outback. The best advice comes firsthand, so ask any local where to eat. Chances are Frank’s will be at the top of their list. The professional wait staff is outstanding. Reservations are essential, so please call ahead!

during our last visit in Myrtle Beach. It was recommended by a friend and we liked it soo much, that we returned the following week. At this time of year (March), we preferred the inside, although the covered outside was very busy. The food was Great each time. Can't wait to return next year!
One comment! the waitress outside was a little too "quick" at telling us "the Happy Hour 'til 7:00 p.m.was over" although it was really just on the nose!

Locally owned, menu and wine list are awesome. Frank's Outback is lovely with big fireplace, palms with twinkling lights, fish ponds. Live music on the weekends, active bar scene locals love. Crab cakes and grouper are delicious, as well as prime beef tenderloin. If you have room for dessert, the 14 layer caramel cake with vanilla ice cream is the best!

We have been eating at Frank's for over 20 years. It has always been excellent. This review is for the inside dining room. A few meals last summer were not quite up to their good standards. They don't always seem to be consistent. My husband and I recently had dinner there. We split the BLT Salad: Chopped Romaine, Bacon, Grape Tomatoes, Homemade Croutons and Buttermilk Dressing. It was very good and very generous. We both had a small plate which I really like seeing offered on more restaurant menus. My husband ordered and enjoyed very much the Trio of Lamb Rib Chops with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Red Wine Dem. I had the Fried Eggplant with Roasted Portobello Mushroom, Roasted Red Peppers, Fresh Mozzarella and Marinara. It was good but I wish that I had chosen something else. Excellent wine. The server seemed to be new and a little nervous. She checked back to the table too often to see how everything was. Before we knew what she was doing she removed the bread plates and the bread basket after bringing our dinner plates. I have had this happen in another restaurant and it is an big annoyance with me. Frank's has a lovely atmosphere. I am not a fan of the open kitchen concept but have never been seated close to it. As with most restaurants today it is loud because of all the hard surfaces. Having said all this I would recommend Frank's for a nice dining experience.

I have had the pleasure of dinning at Frank's ever since it opened and it has remained an excellent and delicious experience over the years. The staff is very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. The wine list is wonderful and in both restaurants the atmosphere is great. I highly recommend both of these restaurants; you won't be disappointed.

Talk about setting the table for a romantic evening out...

I have been to Frank's several times over the years and the quality, service, and selection of menu items are always extremely impressive. Although I have wavered between their succulent rack of lamb, fresh meats and daily catches, I have always started with the tuna nacho appetizer. If you like rare tuna and the tang of wasabi your taste buds will find heaven with each mouthwatering bite. Never had pounded conch before? Frank's is a great place to try it. Second to no one. Their fresh fish creations have never disappointed anyone in our party. Ever. For dessert may I recommend the 13 layer caramel cake. I've never had another dessert like it anywhere, it is simply the most moist, sweet, and absolutely delicious cake to eat. Grab a glass of Port with it to make it a perfect finish, if you like that sort of thing. You'll thank me later.

The service is always impeccable with the staff well versed in the daily features, wine pairings, etc. The impressive thing is seeing the same faces serve you over the years which means the family who operates this restaurant are doing something right.

Enjoy eating an upscale, romantic meal inside by the fireplace, or go out Back where it is a bit more relaxed. This culinary campus is truly one of the most special destinations to enjoy a meal anywhere on the Grand Strand, probably on the entire East Coast. Yep. That good. Frank's and Frank's Outback are the total package.
