“Excellent value”

My wife and I went to Myrtle Beach for our first vacation since our Honeymoon. We decided on Avista based on strong recommendations from family who had stayed there and the price, which included an educator discount! I've never come across a resort offering this! While the furniture and televisions are showing their age (CRT televisions, etc.) we spent most of our time on the beach, which is within a 90 second walk from the hotel.

Congratulations and thank you for choosing the Avista Resort for your vacation. I am grateful your family recommended us and appreciate your comments and wanted you to know we are improving our furniture and that we have upgraded units you can request, Gold Units, and that they all have flat screen TV's and other improvements over the original package. We hope you will decide a return engagement is in order!

We love staying at Avista and have stayed here since they first opened. The furniture is definitely showing its age though and the 1990 TVs need to be replaced with flat screens. The wireless internet is good and a nice addition from a couple of years ago. We will probably stay here 3 times this year and always look forward to staying. We came in on Sunday during Bike Week and I would recommend checking in on Monday (which we normally do). Besides the bikers on Sunday, this is absolutely the best week to be here. The rates are still fairly low and the majority of the kids are still in school, so it was not very crowded. No lines at the restaurants and traffic is not bad either. It began getting crowded today (June 1st), but we are leaving tomorrow so it is ok.

I did eat breakfast in the hotel restaurant one day and it left much to be desired. The pancakes were cold and hard and the breakfast meat was ok. For $13 (including a drink), it should be better. So, we went to the Golden Griddle after that. Breakfast was much better there and cheaper.

Housekeeping was not very good this time. The housekeeper acted like she had an attitude and did just the minimum. If they showed more initiative, maybe they would receive a tip. I am not going to tip bad or average housekeeping service.

Lastly, not a big deal to me, but apparently the towels need to be updated with better quality and bigger towels (like you see at a Hilton). They were a little thin, but I just used an extra towel as needed.

All in all, very happy with our stay. I just hope there are some furniture and mattress (too soft and worn out) upgrades in the future.

Thank you for taking coming back so often and for the honest assessment. We too agree that it is time and we are working with owners to upgrade their units, we have a new furniture package with Carpet, drapes, mattress and drapes which we think really update the look and feel. I do wan to apologize for the average food, we cannot let the items sit and need to replace them more often, and the Breakfast Buffet does have lots of offerings but we need to do better. I also will talk with the housekeeping manager as we do have wonderful staff and when we find ones who just don't want o be here and take great care of our guests we need to allow them to find other options for work. We want all our guests to feel they are being taken care of by employees who truly care and thank you for taking the time to write and I do expect your next visit to be better.

We got here on Sunday...this was the end of Biker week...the first two nights were horrible...the noise next door was on until 2 am...once Tuesday rolled around..all was quiet and enjoyable...we always stay on the top two floors and we love the big units with kitchen, had everything we need and the big bathroom and a bedroom separate for those of our family of five that retire earlier than the others....plus a wall pull out bed and couch bed...great maid service, friendly staff and a flat screen in the sitting area that was nice and big...boys brought the Xbox...nice they had hookups...will come back every year....thanks Avista...we love ya...

Thank you for the kind words an honest opinion. We do try to keep all the noise down to ensure everyone can enjoy their staff but sometimes it is too much. I am grateful our staff treated you well, and we will thank Joe personally, and look forward to your next return to your home away from home, the Avista Resort.

Had Memorial Day thru the following Saturday reservations and called to see about coming down on the Sunday before. The agent (Jessica?) explained what options were available and we ended up on the top floor! (our preferences stated the higher the better...17th floor)
Beautiful view and the staff was always ready to assist. Midway into our trip, I inquired about other room types and the front desk stated that they would be happy to arrange a tour for me to look that them. I did not take them up on it but it shows me their dedication to customer satisfaction.
We have 6 days of beautiful weather so the pools and beaches reflected that. Great stay and we look forward to coming back.

Room Tip: We had a GNS room on the 17th floor. Rooms are owner operated so while the basics are all the same...

Was out of town on business and needed a relaxing stay. However the desk clerk put me in the handicap room on the first floor and it had not been cleaned since the last person used the room/restroom. Proof being the feces still in the toilet and urine all over the toilet seat towel bar and toilet paper roll fell onto the floor due to not being attached to the wall properly.

Switched rooms and had decent night sleep but inspect your room before unpacking.

Though we appreciate comments, this review is for a stay 6 months ago, and we have no way to validate the stay nor comment on the remarks at this late time so I am not sure what the intent was or what we can do now. We apologize if you were put in a room that was not ready yet, we do know this can happen, but unfortunately we have no way of knowing what actually happened and who was responsible at this late date but do appreciate your concerns of cleanliness.

We stayed over Memorial Day weekend. The reservations agent explained at the outset that the hotel would be full of motorcyclists and some family-types had complained in the past. She also told us that due to the number of days we were staying, housekeeping services would not be provided and that we would have to get our towels from the front desk and remove our own trash. So we were prepared, but neither proved to be a problem. There was maid service, and it seems that most of the motorcycle rowdiness occurred in Myrtle Beach. (We learned that Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach are two totally separate towns. They have many streets with the same names, so this can be confusing!)
We arrived at the airport and were SO glad we rented a car, because this hotel is about 30 minutes from the airport and there is no shuttle.
So here are my comments in list form:

View: Spectacular. We had an ocean front room on the 3rd floor. Ceilings were probably 12 feet high and the patio doors/windows were floor-to-ceiling. We could have spent the entire vacation in the room looking out the window! However the balcony chairs were the cheap Wal-Mart plastic ones and not comfortable. The sofa and dining chairs were not particularly comfy either.

Beach: well-maintained and huge. There was a big crowd but well spread out. No luck finding any fabulous shells. Shells were pretty much decimated into pieces. You can rent a pair of seats and a sun umbrella from the city for $25.

Pools: Lots of them, clean, indoor AND outdoor.

Noise: The hotel was totally full, yet we rarely saw anyone in the hallways. The patio doors, when closed, blocked almost all outside noise. Plus the bedroom is located at the back of the unit, far from the outside noise. The neighborhood is quieter than Myrtle Beach proper.

Beds: Medium-soft. Very comfortable, as were the pillows.

Staff: All very friendly. We enjoyed chatting with the bartender, Joe, a really nice guy. Our maid was Miss Gloria and she took good care of us. We were treated well by the front desk staff as well.

Décor: Nice stone tops on dressers, counters, and TV stands. Up-to-date off white furniture.

Restaurant: We ate at the bar in the pool area (which closes at 5 when the restaurant opens).Steak sandwiches were great!

Amenities: Don't forget your toothbrush or ibuprofen if needed. This hotel is pretty bare-bones that way. There is no gift shop or complimentary toothpaste etc. if you forget. Toilet paper very basic if you know what I mean. Cheap shampoo and lotion. "Army" coffee. We bought our own plus our own filters, at a nearby Kroger, We had a king bed (suite? condo? don't remember what it was called) with kitchenette which included place settings and utensils, pots and pans. Also a dishwasher and brand-new washer and dryer.

Wish I could go back right now!

Room Tip: We had tried to get a higher floor but ended up on the 3rd floor. It was actually fine!

Thank you for taking the time to write and I am grateful you received services you did not expect. I also comment you on the good observations on Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach as many folks don't really understand the layouts of our area. We do try to keep all the noise down to ensure everyone can enjoy their staff but sometimes it is too much. I am grateful our staff treated you well, and we will thank them. I also wanted to let you the Front Desk does have tooth brushes and tooth paste but no aspirin. We hope to see you again.

The rooms were clean. The staff was very friendly. Stay on a higher floor to avoid more noise. Pools were impeccably clean. Garage parking across the street. Perfect location! The beach was magnificent.

Thank you for the kind words, especially with this busy Memorial Weekend with all the bikes. Our staff works real hard and I hope you will be back again and expect that same great service. It was a wonderful weekend and I want to thank all our guests for coming and enjoying the Avista Resort and its staff!
