“Nice Resort overall with some good and bad features.”
Reviewed August 19, 2011

We stayed here last week for a family vacation. We stayed in tower one, room 1451, a 2 bedroom condo with a partial ocean view. The room was very nice, well decorated and stocked. The 2 things we did not like were 1) the linens. The bed linens are a very low quality thread count and not soft or comfortable. If you have the option of bringing your own, do so. 2) The televisions were old tube style. This was not a huge deal, but for the price, it would have been nice to have some flat screen televisions in the rooms.
Aside from that, all was fine. The room came with a washer/dryer combo, dishwasher, disposal, regular size frig w/ ice maker, broom and sweeper, pots, pans, casserole dishes and all utensils you could need. It would have been nice to have some Tupperware, but it wasn’t a big deal.

I was surprised that Tower 4 is located across the street from the main resort and beach. This is not advertised anywhere and can be quite the hassle when having to lug everything across the street for a day at the beach. Or when wanting to run back to the room for things you forgot or for lunch. Make sure you get a room on towers 1-3 for beach front access.

The hotel is very convenient to lots of walking attractions. 2 blocks down is the OD Arcade, an old school mini carnival with about 5 rides for kids, 2 game booths and lots of video games. (You can get a $2 off coupon on their website). Right near the OD are 2 beach stores stocked with everything you forgot to pack. There are also several restaurants and bars with live music and local food. A Bi-Lo and Kroger's grocery mart are 2 miles away as well.

Now back to the hotel. They have 3 outdoor pools and 2 or 3 indoor ones. The pools are an average size with 2 facing the beach. One has a zero entry for the small kids and the other is an infinity pool. The 3rd is across the street in tower four. The only issue with the pools is that due to their locations between towers, they only get about 2-3 hours of sun throughout the day. I think that was bad planning on their part.

The beach is very nice! The tide comes and goes through the day and at one point you have about 200 yards of beach area to play in. When it is out, it leaves cool, shallow pools for you to put your chair in or let the kids play without worrying about them getting swept away or eaten by sharks. The sand is fine and white and gets very hot. The water was cool in August and refreshing. No seaweed but lots of shells. The city offers chairs and umbrella rentals all along the beach. $25 for the day includes 2 reclining chairs and a big umbrella. Or $15 just for the umbrella. Most people bring their own or even bring canopy tents to avoid the sun and get some shade.

We didn’t eat at the one restaurant in the hotel, but it looked like simple sports bar food.

The game room is ok. Has 2 pool tables and 2 ping pong tables. A video game system with tons of games for the kids to rent out for free. Each has a 30 minute time limit to allow others to enjoy. They also have an abundance of games and movies that you can borrow for 24 hours and bring back to your room or the pool.

Finally, they have organized activities everyday for adults and kids. Zumba and cardio classes on the beach or by the pool. Video game/pool/pong tournaments. Murder Mystery Hour (which was a lot of fun), field trips for the kids, pottery and art sessions and pool aerobics in the lazy river.

All in all I would stay here again. Great location and good service by all the staff. I would just bring my own linens and beach chairs next time.

Room Tip: Bring your own linens and beach chairs/umbrella.

Did a RCI transfer and booked two condos. The place was great, and we had access to 4 different swimming pools with a lazy river over looking the ocean. Some reviewers had problems with parking but I didn't have any at all. There was entertainment for the kids every day and the ocean was just across the street. We are going to return next year.

We have stayed here before and were very excited about staying here again. This time, our unit did not live up to our expectations, although we are still happy with the resort itself and will come back. We had a two bedroom in Tower One. Some issues we had were, the large vent outside where the furnace/water heater/etc. is located was absolutely filthy. There were clumps of dust on it, and I am not sure how this would have been missed by those who prepare the rooms. The vent faces the kitchen area, so it was definitely something noticeable. Also, the ice maker in the freezer did not work, which was a minor inconvenience, since we needed to go to Tower Two to get ice for our cooler every day. No vending was located in our building. The top rack in the dishwasher was broken, and the shower curtains in both bathrooms had mold on them. Pretty gross when taking a shower. OK, now on to the positives! None of these issues, although annoying ruined my vacation. We still had a wonderful time, and love to be right on the ocean. During check in (which is crazy) the security guards were very helpful in directing us and allowing us to unload our car by the elevators and then park. The resort staff were all very friendly and upon check in, I was prepared to argue with them about not wanting their "free" gift to attend the member education session. Once I checked in and went to get my parking pass, I told Heather I had a toddler with me and was not interested in receiving any gifts, I would just like my parking pass. She was very cordial and didn't push the issue with me. She did say that they would contact us about doing an "interactive session" in our room, and our phone did ring a few times, but we ignored it and enjoyed our vacation with no interruptions. Despite the issues with the unit, I will return because my children do enjoy the pools which are clean (I watched the staff clean them every morning) and the other amenities. However, if we do have another experience similiar to this unit, we will likely move on.

We stayed several nights with my parents at Wyndham Ocean Blvd in July in a 2 bedroom unit. We were in Tower 4. It's across the street from the beach and Towers 1, 2, and 3. This unit was much smaller than other Wyndham's that we have stayed, but sufficient for us. The pool was a good size. We also enjoyed going across the street to the other pools and lazy river. The only negative was the elevators were slow.

This is a huge resort. Mostly timeshares. Except for a few rooms, view of the ocean is limited. Avoid any timeshare presentation -- that will be 3 hours of your life you will never get back. The internet access is awful. Speedtest.net regularly timed the speed at .1 mps! My smart phone was faster, even without 3G. Most people are used to 6 mps or better at home. If you need to go online for business while on vacation, get an aircard. The wireless sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. No HD TVs. Limited cable. North Myrtle Beach is fun. Lots of smaller, more personal condos available on VRBO.com. Rent from an actual person, you'll have a better experience.
