Oceanfront hotel in North Myrtle Beach, SC

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Mar 31, 2019via mobile
Peppertree by the Sea in North Myrtle Beach, SC has a wonderful oceanfront location near the center of restaurants and shag clubs. Our two bedroom two bath condo was oceanfront overlooking the pool deck. The outside pool was large with plentiful lounge chairs. Some balconies even had rocking chairs. There was also a small indoor pool and whirlpool. What impressed us the most was the close parking area, fast elevators, and rapid checkin. Our unit was one of the best we have ever stayed in. Supplies such as toilet paper, tissues, trash bags, and dish detergent were plentiful. The kitchen was very well equipped with lots of cooking utensils and supplies. There was ample counter space, large refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher. The master bedroom had its own bath and floor to ceiling windows to view the ocean from bed. We will definitely try to return.

We were there beginning of the month of March the weather was a little on cool side to use the outdoor pool but their indoor pool was nice and warm. We had a 2 bedroom on the ground floor which could not see the ocean unless you stood up. The shower in master bedroom did not have much room. The ladies at the front desk were very helpful and will be back again sometime.

We had a wonderful experience. We almost changed our minds based ujpon some of the negative reviews. We are glad that we did not change our mind This is just what the doctor ordered. Quiet, clean, pretty. There was something there for everyone, indoor and outdoor pool, fitness room, sauna, Jacuzzi, outdoor grills. The staff was nice. Having a balcony on the Atlantic Ocean was wonderful. Enjoy!

Lovely view and area. The physical building needs an update, inside and out. Furniture and appliances are old and uncomfortable. Needs better cleaning. The cleaning is just okay. Take the time to check all areas especially the bathroom, and kitchen areas....looks behind and under.

I only give this a one, because I can't give it a zero! We stayed there in August of 2018. The first thing we saw when we walked in the door was a roach on the kitchen counter. It was late, so we left to get pizza to bring back to the room, walked in and there were more roaches in the kitchen!!! We didn't want to use the plates or paper towels they had there, so we winded up eating just out of the box w/o anything to actually put our food on. We couldn't unload the snacks or luggage, because we didn't want roaches to get in it. We had to go back out to the store to purchase lysol, lysol wipes, fresh paper towels, paper plates, etc... because we didn't feel ok with not knowing where all the roaches were/had been. If we opened a snack to eat (bag of chips, cookies), or used a spoon or something, we had to put it in the refrigerator to make sure no bugs got into it. Everything not opened, we kept tied into bags. When we went to the bathroom, there were yet MORE roaches!!! My husband went to the office to tell them of this problem. They sent someone with bug spray sometime the next day. That was supposed to stop the problem. It didn't. They continued to be all over the hotel room. My husband went BACK, and told them we STILL had roaches in the room with us, they sent someone else to spray. You guessed it...it didn't remotely deter them. After this went on several days, my husband told them we had tried to work with them, but they were not solving the problem, and he wanted us moved immediately. Side story, we had someone calling asking for another man, and we told them he wasn't staying in that room. They verified they had called the right room, but he wasn't there. They told us they had talked to him the day before we had arrived, and he was supposed to be there that week. Best we can figure is, he was there and likely got frustrated at the roaches in the room as well, so he had left. When my husband demanded to be moved, they suddenly had a room to move us to. When we went to the balcony of the new room, there was room for ONE chair IF you were willing to sit SIDEWAYS on the balcony! We had driven over 7 hours to get there, I was recovering from surgery, and it was our 10 yr old daughter's first time ever even being to the beach (19 yr old son's first time since he was very small, so he didn't really remember the ocean), so this was a big event for us to finally have the money to even get to take this family vacation. Once we were moved, we were still nervous about roaches showing up, so we never cooked in the kitchen, which meant spending money we didn't really have extra, to eat out. (had to pull from our Christmas money we were saving, to pay for all the eating out costs). We went to the pool and there was some people spitting in the water, and a guy who was playing his music VERY loud....between these two things, literally everyone who was out by the poo just got up and left. We talked to the staff to see if they would do something about it....they said they would. Nope, they never even came out to the pool to even see the problem. When we checked out, my husband asked about refunding us for the days we had to live in the roach room/nasty pool...they said we had to call someone else. We called them, and they said they would refund ONE day! Seriously? We spent months going back and forth with them trying to get what would be fair....half of the money we had spent staying there, since half of the time was horrible. Nope. They refused, and finally completely stopped responding to our asking them for a solution to this problem. I would NEVER, EVER recommend staying in this roach hotel. We had several family members who were planning to schedule vacations there, until we told them our experience. We don't want to see anyone else have their vacation to the beach ruined by staying here!

I read the negative reviews and foolishly booked a week here anyhow. BIG mistake!!! First off, the place was full of drain flies! I killed at least 20 on the walls upon arrival. The ONLY bright spot was the maintenance man "Jerome" who poured crystals down the drains when I notified the front desk of the problem. I killed 10 the second day, then at least 5 per day during the rest of my stay. Then there was heavy construction noise in the morning and lasting until the afternoon.. They completely gutted the room above me and the room next to me. I was on the second floor and they parked a dump truck right below my door and the loud booms from them dropping heavy debris was unbelievable! The sledgehammers knocking out drywall was just as loud and the pounding of hammers as they remodeled was constant. I complained again to the front desk and asked for compensation for a ruined week of "peace and quiet" which is why I booked the place in the first place. They didn't seem to care and offered me nothing! Too bad! The icing on the cake was me having to chase down and kill a cockroach!!! I've stayed at many places in North Myrtle Beach and have always had good experiences until I stayed at the dreaded Peppertree by the Sea. In fact, I've stayed at condos and hotels all over the world and this is truly the worst place I've ever stayed at!!! The problems listed above are in addition to the other reviews of the place being extremely outdated, cramped, and dark. Do your homework before booking and take the time to search out reviews on several sites. My guess is Wyndham will knock down this infested dive and build a modern, clean, comfortable place. Shame on them if they don't! STAY AWAY!

Room tip: Book someplace else, anywhere else!

Your satisfaction is important to us and we will be using the feedback you provided to make improvements to ensure we offer an exceptional experience for our guests in the future. You should have received prior notification from your exchange company on the contractors being on site to repair our building from the damages that hurricane Florence left upon us. Our staff called all rooms the day they arrived to ensure you were notified properly that they would start around 9 am until after lunch for only a few days. We again apologize you had issues in your unit and glad to know our team was able to help you with your drain issue. We hope you have a wonderful holiday season and wish you well.
