“Nasty & Neglected”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2011

Stayed here 5 years ago and it was fine, this time however it seems as if the owner couldn't care less about this place. It's dirty and neglected, unless they do major renovations I will never stay at the Red Tree again. Decide for yourself from the pictures.

I'd read several reviews of this property. The range of satisfaction was top to bottom. I must say that I have been visiting North Myrtle Beach since I was a child in the 1960's. This property has been in business since at least the 1970's.

The location is wonderful. Ocean front rooms and efficiencies that afford quick access to the beach and a small pool/hot-tub. There are few amenities and none that could be called "luxurious". However, if you are looking for a basic ocean front accomodation, this property hits the spot. A short drive down Ocean Blvd. puts you in shopping and dining areas. We rented a room with a small eff. kitchen. We choose to drive into Cherry Grove and purchase fresh seafood to cook in the room. With a young son, this allowed us to eat dinner w/out any agenda and to tell you the truth, most of the restaurants cannot beat the flavor of cooking your own shrimp and fish vs. the high cost of grease filled buffets.

We will return to this property, but we will bring bleach enhanced bathroom cleaners to beat back the mildew stains. This would be a turn-off to more pampered minded quests. To us, quick access to the beach from ocean front in OD/Crescent or Cherry Grove is what we want when headed to the SC coast.

If you're in college and want a trip that isn't too expensive and live in frat-house conditions.....this is the place for you. The Red Tree has nerve charging $80 per night for a dump. The owner is laughing every month as he deposits his bank slips for this place. It's a crime that no money has been invested to upkeep the place. It looks like a low-income housing development with locks that do not lock properly and cigarette smoke permeating everywhere. Great location! that's about it! There are too many other pretty and affordable places in North Myrtle Beach to stay.

it was ocean front with large buildings on both sides. Not good for taking picture of sunrise and sun set. The kitchen.... I had to ask for a different coffee pot, silverware and cups. The cabinets and microwave where leaning forward like they were going to fall off the wall. The bed had hitch hikers in it. Small plant balls that stick to your clothes and poke you. Came back from the beach and had no power. The front desk person came to trip the breaker. Then the smoke alarm went off @ 9pm and I wasn't cooking. They came and took it off the wall for the night. Patio door stuck the clerk had to work hard to get the door open. The pool and hot tub was NASTY. Never saw a person clean it nor was it ever clear water. Hot Tub full of sand and only one jet worked. Never ice in the ice machine. I will not stay there again.

I have read the other reviews, and did not find any of these problems. There were no holes in the ceiling, no bugs, no mold, no holes in the bedding. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to help. The room was older and the carpet was worn, but the room was clean and was cleaned and vaccumed every day. We stayed in ah effiency that was poolside. Our first day there, the fridge quit working, within an hour we had a new one, and housekeeping was sent in to clean under where the old one was.
We took our DVD with us so we could watch movies in our room, but the tv was older and did not have a way to connect to the DVD player, I went to the office to ask if they knew how to hook up the DVD player. He pollowed me back to the room with a new flatscreen tv and hooked the DVD player up for me. When we checked out, they appoligized again for the problem we had with the fridge, and returned a half days rent for the inconvience.

If you want luxury you will not find it here but it was clean and quiet. Lots of families were there. We stayed with our 2 daughters who are 20. We had ajoining rooms on 2nd floor. We would not hesitate to stay again.

We stayed at the Red Tree Inn over a summer holiday weekend, and we chose it because another family member booked us in for a mini-reunion. Travel time took longer than expected, but I called ahead to let them know. When we arrived, our clerk was a smart aleck who instead of asking nicely for our information waited for us to read her mind and provide it-- then complained about clients who weren't forthcoming. The lobby was dilapidated and smelled funny--definitely not cheerful and welcoming. We were provided with one key. My children walked in our room and, because it reeked of cigarette smoke, immediately wanted to leave. We were able to eliminate some of the smell by keeping the balcony door open most of our stay. The room was cramped, faded, old, and dirty. My 14 year old son was disgusted by the bathroom, and that's saying quite a bit. There were cigarette discolorations on the sink, and the bottom of the tub looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. There was caked dirt, mold--something!--in the corners of the floor. The shower was built for short people, and although I had never had it ever happen before, I actually ran out of hot water. The plaster on the bathroom ceiling was giving way. The sheets were old and stained, pillows lumpy, mattresses very springy, the towels thin, holey, and at least one was a cast off from prior guests (it read CHS Class of 2010). The kitchenette was dirty and the pots looked more so. No dishsoap was provided, so I have a feeling that past occupants just rinsed stuff off and put it back. The carpet felt crusty and sticky. The elevator smelled and was rickety. I wondered how old the wiring was in the room because the outlet plates were broken and didn't fit properly. It is impossible to get a cell phone signal unless you are standing out front, and although they claimed to have WiFi, my husband could only get it in the lobby. Someone had tossed chicken bones and other trash out on the rooftop right outside our room door. The stairwell smelled like vomit. Other visiting family members nick-named the place the "roach motel", and a very crude word for a hole to go to the bathroom in. The only good thing about the place was that it was right on the beach. It truly was the most over-priced and rattiest place I have ever stayed.
