“overcharged and overrated”
Review of Evo Pizza

Evo Pizza
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: $7 - $15
Cuisines: Pizza, Bar
Description: EVO (Extra Virgin Oven) Pizzeria is the wood-fired dream of Matt McIntosh and Ricky Hacker. Matt and Ricky met while working in the illustrious kitchen at FIG in downtown Charleston in 2003. The pair spent the better part of a year forming the concept for a wood-fired pizza shop that would focus on local ingredients. In 2005 they flew the coop to start EVO. The first incarnation was a mobile wood-fired pizza oven - in other words, a fancy trailer - that they used for catering. Turns out, people really like fancy trailer pizza. It became apparent that the concept was ready for a brick & mortar restaurant, and they found a perfect home on East Montague Avenue in North Charleston, part of the up-and-coming Park Circle area. In 2007, EVO Pizzeria fired up its ovens for the public, and hasn't stopped since. We come to work at EVO every day to bring fun, delicious food and drink to our community. We source locally and regionally because we're proud to be here. We cook with love because we love to cook. And who doesn't love pizza?

Don't trust the hype. If you had any experience eating good pizza in any major city, this place will disappoint you. It is not bad, by all means, but it just doesn't live up to the hype. I was in North Charleston on business and decided to try the place. When I was there, the restaurant was almost empty (lunchtime). Even so the service was hurried and sloppy. I paid by credit card, including tip. When I got my statement I found out they added several dollars to my bill. So if you're from out of town, be warned.

Nice little pizza place great atmosphere and excellent food. The staff although busy took time to answer questions and tend to your needs and they were friendly doing so as well. The best part is that they use seasonal local food when available. Best of Charleston in my opinion.

If you can appreciate the mingling of different flavors of food and homemade ingredients...if you consider yourself a "foodie" then you will love Evo's (Extra Virgin Oven). We love to go here but the portions are a little small and a little pricey. For dinner we paid about 86 dollars for one appetizer, 2 entrees and 2 alcoholic drinks with dessert. It's a small place, but the atmosphere is intimiate, and service great. The only thing that bugs me is that they put their wine in mason jars and not in a beautiful glass like it deserves..
Try the Pork Trifecta---a homemade personal size pizza that includes their locally grown pork with sausage pepperoni and bacon..with the housemade mozzerela.
A couple of times I have had the Goat's Milk fudge for dessert..or the house made chocolate candy..
I have seen a wait here, so come early..
This restaurant is located in downtown Old North Charleston..near spruil avenue and montague...

A hidden gem in North Charleston's Park Circle neighborhood. Well worth the trip though. Always a lively, busy lunch crowd & parking can be challenging. They do everything well here - from soup & salad specials to their thin crust pizzas. My favorite is the pistachio pesto. Have also tried the pork trifecta but cannot resist the pistachio one! Dessert choices are limited but a thin sliver of fudge hits the spot. EVO stands for Extra Virgin Oven!
