I used to make it a point to visit this Manny's when in North Charleston. My favorite item was Spanakopita. I had eaten it there several times, and sometimes even bought extra. It used to be that good. However, they changed how they serve it, and therefore the texture and flavor. It used to be in one piece, and served just right. Now, they cut it in half or thirds, press it on the grill which darkened it, and the inside filling becomes mushy and oozes out. They also put oil on it, making it look very greasy and unappetizing. Originally, it was served with their version of a tzatziki sauce. Of course, I would be critical of this dish, because I make it myself. I want to clarify that it is not the product itself that is inferior, but the way they now slice it up, overcook it, and serve it. The word that kept coming to mind was mushy, mushy, mushy. More like creamed spinach than Spanakopita.
I also had a chicken teriyaki pita which was tasty, and it seems you cannot go wrong with a basic pita or gyro. Next time I wish to check out their salads, which I have heard from other diners are very good. The salads look very fresh and appealing.
