I held our high school 30th reunion here in September of 2012 and stayed overnight. We loved it and have wanted to return. Luckily they donated a free night to our local elementary school auction last spring. I was bidding heartily on the package (for the sole reason of getting the room), when my father jumped in at the last second and started running the bid up to more than I could pay. It cracked the room full of people up! My dad is 80 and going to the auction each year is my "thing" with my parents. I couldn't believe he would snake me. But, as I have the most wonderful dad I know, he ran it up so I would not buy something I really could not afford, and subsequently gave me the certificate, and treated my husband and me to the Charleston Pops show with my parents on another night. Great deal! But I digress...
It took us a year to get a chance to make our reservations. My husband almost made a huge mistake because it turns out he had the wrong expiration date in his mind. He discovered it on late on the night before it expired and ran over to the hotel on his way to work the next morning to see if they could accommodate us. They extended it to the next weekend so we could have time to make our arrangements. That was very kind of them! (But, I have never seen any employee at this hotel that is less than kind and professional).
We had the King room, it may have been the exact room we stayed in before. Impeccably clean and no signs of stains or damage to anything.
We had two small hiccups that are barely worth mentioning. Late in the evening, but before midnight, a group came in with some loud talking children. That lasted almost until the point where I was going to pick up the phone and complain. They either made it to their room, or were hushed, and I never heard another sound. We had engineering knock on our door when we first got in our room. Wrong room, so sorry, no problem. We did have to call the front desk after midnight because our tv was pixillating constantly. Windy night. They sent someone to look at it, he had to leave to see if it was a hotel problem or something in our set up. He came back up and fixed it with no further problem. He was very nice and professional. None of these were problems to get upset about, they did not take away from our evening.
We had breakfast the next morning. They have a little warm food, cereal and fruit. We got there half-way through it. The food could have been better and warmer, but I didn't know they had this before we checked in, so I wasn't mad at them, really. I'm happy with cereal and fruit so I was good to go.
I called and asked for a later check-out because we had stayed up late watching some great re-runs, and I wanted to go back to bed. The front desk clerk told me they couldn't give me a late check-out that day, but that he was sure it would be after noon before housekeeping made it to our area, so feel free to stay longer.
The beds there are so comfy. I have a bad back and ALWAYS wake up in pain. Not here. Plus, the rooms have great light-blocking so it was wonderful crawling back in for a nice nap. Again, there was zero noise from housekeeping carts anywhere at anytime. There were no employees talking loudly across the lobby to each other, only one minute of noise from some children.
Our school had their auction last night, and alas, did not have a Crowne Plaza package. I was so disappointed! I had already told my husband that I was going to get it and we'd be back there next week. Now I have to find another way to go back again. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel!
