Just got home from the Palace at MB and I have no complaints. Our room was on the 20th floor and was type "D" and everything about the room was fine. We arrived a few hours before check in so we had some time to walk around and check the place out and everything seemed ok on the outside, the security guard at the front door was very nice explaining that we could go ahead and park in the parking deck and we were welcome to get out swim suits out and could change in the rest rooms which had a small changing area so we could hang out at the pool until check in time. Check in was a bit hecktick as everyone started lining up close to 3pm to check in, but luckly we managed to secure our room key around 2:30 after a bit of arguing, nothing major though. The sad thing was we had to use shopping carts from Big-Lots to bring our luggage to the room which seemed a bit tacky. The elevator ride was swift we reached the 20th floor in a reasonable time. As we opened the door to the room it smelled extremley clean with lemon pine-sol and everything was in it's place. Only thing we found wrong with the room was in the master bed room the sheets on the bed seemed to have something written on them, but after closer inspection we believe it had been done prior to the sheets being placed on the bed and was a permanent stain (seems like they would have been thrown out but the markings were faint so maybe the maid just didn't notice them.) The room was a bit small but still comfortable enough for everyone to have pleanty of room, the sepearte bedrooms was nice, offering privacy. The view was terrific from both balconies, with one looking North toward the ocean and also a nice view of the strip and the other being parallel to the strip but still offering a glimpse of the ocean. However, people suffering from a fear of heights need not go out on the balcony. Later in our stay we learned about the elevators and even experianced what it was like to be stuck in an elevator for 15 minutes, do not take elevator #2! After our experiance even some of the employees told us they never rode that elevator as it always gave problems and it even got stuck again the very next day after we had been stuck. During peak times the Palace has employees ride the elevators to keep them moving at a reasonable rate.
What people need to realize is this place has 23 floors and if the elevator has to stop on lets say 7 floors on one trip yes it's gonna take a little while to finally reach your floor especially if you're on one of the upper floors. The staff was always pleasant and nice and though they sometimes didn't have smiles every employee I said hello to returned the greeting in a friendly manor. I carried on a rather lengthy conversation with one employee who was in charge of the swimming pools and he explained how often they tested the water and even showed me the book where he recorded his records. As we checked out the people at the front desk along with the security guards at the front door wished us a safe trip home. All in all it's really a nice place, now maybe we got lucky and got a room that was in great shape but we did book it through the front desk not some private owner.

July, 2003 was our first AND LAST visit to the Palace Resort. They make it look so great on the internet......what a farce! Here's a list of what was wrong with our room: 1. The phone did not work in the bedroom.
2. The wait for the elevators was entirely too long. It makes you feel as though you spend half of your vacation waiting for them.
3. The balcony is too small for a family of four to enjoy it and the door stuck from the living room side so you had to shove very hard to get it open.
4. We called and asked for a wake up call but never received it. We actually spoke with someone at the front desk and they assured us that we'd receive the call, but we never did.
5. The bedroom ceiling showed remnants of a water leak and there were rust spots on the walls.
6. Both sprinklers were rusted over and we were afraid that they wouldn't work in case of a fire.
7. The overall condition of the living room, bedroom, and bathroom were as though they had been partied in by young kids and never taken care of by the management. The stains on the living room furniture were disgusting.
8. Our dishwasher wasn't working and we had to call for maintenance to fix it.
9. It rained several times while we were there and the parking garage leaked horribly. We also had to avoid many accidents in the parking garage because it is too small for two cars to pass in the turns at each end.
10. The attachment on our coffee pot that holds the filter and coffee was missing and we had to call to get a replacement for it.
11. We never recieved our towels until the middle of the afteroon.
Therefore we had to wait extra long to take our showers. This is the first time I've stayed at a resort in South Myrtle Beach since 1990.
We've stayed in North Myrtle Beach several times and our rooms/condos were always just as they were portrayed on line. This place is a joke!
