“Excellent Oceanfront Stay!!”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

After reading the reviews, my husband and I chose to stay at Springmaid while celebrating our anniversary. This was the best stay ever! The staff was sssooo nice and knowledgable of the area. We stayed in the palmetto building, which had a beachfront view. We received discounted tickets to area attractions like Ripleys Aqarium, Ripleys Believe it or not and Wonderworks via the hotel! The attractions were so much fun, and for every age group. I kept my DO NOT DISTURB sign on the room door b/c I didn't want housekeeping, but received new towles and wash cloths w/ no hesitation. Springmaid had free golf, 18 holes. Which was very fun, although I SUCK at golf (haha) Marlins restaurant had good, hot breakfast. All attractions and restaurants are walking distance or a short drive away. Myrtle Beach International Airport is very closeby the hotel so we did hear a lot of planes flying too and from. They didn't bother my husband or myself though. It was actually cool seeing the planes fly by while we were on the beach or on the balcony of our hotel. And the Peir is amazing!! It's very relaxing and you get great pictures from it. I look forward to staying at Springmaid in the near future.

Room Tip: The Live Oak building and the Palmetto building have oceanfront views. The Cypress building has side...

Stayed 2 nights. Room was quiet and clean. Great amenities. Pier café service was a bit slow and our dinner and breakfast orders were not correct. Free adventure gold on grounds. Convenient to off-site dining and shopping.

My husband, son and I stayed here during spring break. (last week of March) We stayed in Live Oaks and had the 2 bedroom suite. We liked the room and view and found the kitchenette useful (even though the ice maker was so noisy we turned it off) The room had a very strange musty odor and we realized it came from the air conditioner which was running upon arrival. Since it was unseasonably chilly, we turned on the heat and the odor went away. One thing that definately needs improvement is housekeeping. One of the decor pillows on the bed had shaving cream sprayed on it I guess from a previous guest so I asked for those pillows to be removed. They also came late everyday to clean the room except the morning we were to check out they knocked twice (once at 8am and again at 9am) The day before checking out they barely cleaned the room. Garbage never emptied and the clean towels were left on the dresser instead of being put in the bathroom. The overall resort was nice. We enjoyed the pier (we bought a pole at Walmart for $20 instead of paying to rent one every day) Barnacles always had a lively crowd at Happy Hour. We were only able to eat breakfast at Marlin's once since they were only serving food until 9:30am. It was so-so. It did get warm enough to sit out by the pool which was relaxing. One downside that I haven't seen mentioned are the tour helicopters that fly over the hotel every 10 minutes are very noisy and annoying, but they fly over all of Myrtle Beach so I'm not sure how to avoid that. The location is nice being at the south end of Myrtle Beach and walking distance to Myrtle Beach State Park. The beach is very nice. Someone in a previous review recommended Huntington Beach which is about 20 minutes south of the hotel. We went there twice (you can see alligators there) and visited Brookgreen Gardens which is beautiful. (Great deal for admission to Brookgreen on Groupon) With the exception of Sole in Myrtle Beach, Murrell's Inlet has way better restaurants than Myrtle Beach. Crab Inlet is a great little place, Dead Dog Saloon was really fun with good food a great view. My son and husband took a private half day fishing trip out of Capt. Dicks that was really successful! I would go back considering the prices are very reasonable and it's a really quick flight from Chicago.

My experience was wonderful. I brought 13 women from Beaufort, S. C. to a retreat that hosts more than 250 women. The room was spacious and held 4 women to a room. The cafeteria food was great. I will visit again and bring the grandchildren next time.

Overall, had a nice experience. Beautiful view of beach and pier from our room. Clean environment. Very friendly and helpful staff. Only dissatisfaction was the furniture in the room looked like it was there for years (was marked and damaged), instead of being new as advertised. I was expecting all new furniture in room since advertisement said "newly renovated and updated".

I have always known about Springmaid Beach, but this was the first time I'd stayed in the motel-type accommodations. This property has changed from the time it was primarily a vacation location for Springs Mills employees. Once, in the 1950's my cousin, a Springs Mill exec, reserved the "big white house" for an extended family beach vacation. That house is now a beautiful art museum at the edge of the Springmaid Resort Beach property. It is well worth visiting; be sure to visit the basement area; it has a most creative art gallery in the form of a mininature golf course. Very educational and unusual, and hard to describe for this review. The Resort itself also has a real miniature golf course which is free and fun to play. We ate buffet breakfast at Marlin's and it reminded me of a school or camp type set-up - maybe a throwback to the early days at Springmaid. Anyway, we food was good, especially Mr. Ray's custom omelets. This buffet isn't as upscale as the one at the Ocean Reef, but certainly more than adequate. Our Live Oaks room was clean and had everything we needed. The fishing pier is great, even though the fish were apparently off on vacation somewhere else during our visit.

Room Tip: A room on an upper floor will afford a better ocean view than a 1st floor room.

We have no small children and don't like being in the thick of downtown, so this place was just perfect for us. Clean, reasonable prices, and friendly staff. The beach is like a private beach. The pier is great for strolling, fishing, reading. Marlin's has a great omelette chef. This was our second trip there and will definitely go back.

Room Tip: Higher floors have good view of ocean. First floor just gets trees.
