We were very please with our stay. Everything was clean and well kept.
Dont even leave the resort, with the pools , Pier, lazy river, resturants and beach
not to mention mini golf and arcade.
However: we did walk next door to Damon's for dinner one night! (also good)

Room Tip: We stayed in the live Oak building ocean front. Would definately get that room again.

Overall, the Springmaid is a good resort worth considering. If you want a great beach that's not over-crowded and don't care about pools, consider Springmaid. If you're into pier fishing, definitely stay here. But if you want a water park, indoor kddie pools, or to be close to the boardwalk and all the action, you'll probably do better elsewhere. A brief overview:

PROS:
• Almost all rooms have good ocean view (Palmetto bldg = best views, Cypress bldg = poor views)
• Clean, decently sized rooms
• End of the strand, so less crowded beaches
• Several pools, three of which are kiddie/wading pools
• Full fridge in Palmetto rooms
• Good shelling in front of and just north of the property
• Great fishing pier
• Resort is spread out - not crammed together

Cons:
• Better oceanfront room prices elsewhere
• Uncomfortable pillows
• No room service and limited food options on-site/within walking
• No indoor tot pools (relevant on stormy days)
• Boardwalk attractions not within walking distance
• No ocean lifeguards
• No beach chair service or rentals (at least in Sept.)
• Small, poor microwave

We stayed at the Springmaid for 5 nights and enjoyed our stay. Rooms and the resort are clean and well-maintained, with Palmetto rooms having a full sized fridge. The staff is friendly, and for ocean-front resorts, it probably has the most acreage, which means more space to spread out and less of a chance of over-crowded pools and beach. Further, if you're an avid fisher, this is the place to stay - there is great fishing off the pier, which Springmaid guests can access for free. However, there were a few disappointments. The pillows are ultra-stiff and uncomfortable, giving both my wife and me neck aches; the microwave is a cheap, small, dial model that was inconsistent; and there's nothing for kids to do on stormy days.

POOLS: Overall the pools were nice and decently sized for ocean front resorts. The best infant pool is in front of the Palmetto building - it slopes from no water to 1.5 feet deep, with a "mushroom shower" in the middle. The best toddler option is the "seal" pool in front of the cypress building. It's large and ranges from 1.5 - 2.5' deep. The best and largest adult pool is also in front of the Cypress building. The one big negative - stormy days. There are only two small indoor pools, both of which are 3-5' deep, so not convenient for tots, and not much room for the other guests.

FOOD: Go elsewhere. The Marlin's breakfast buffet is overpriced for what's included. I cannot comment on quality, as we did not actually eat there, just looked and decided to go elsewhere. Barnacles has okay bar food, but nothing extraordinary. There are tons of options just minutes away on Kings Hwy (business 17). Just turn left out of the resort and then right on 17 and you're there. Side note: Shoney's was terrible, Friendly's was great for reasonable family places.

Hope this helps. Have a great trip!

Room Tip: • For ocean view, choose Palmetto Dunes first, and Live Oak 2nd. Don't choose Cypress Inn...

We were there for a wedding and the service was terrible. The facilities are run down and the food was terrible. The pier is nice and fun for fishing but the "bar" there is a smelly soda shop that sells beer and drinks. I am not one to write a poor review but I have no choice with this place. There are lots of inexpensive resorts in Myrtle Beach so I would try another one first.

Excellent hotel. Everything was clean and in great working order. Walls and ceiling seemed sound proof. Good view, and proximity to good dining (and cheap dining) and the pier were fantastic. The cleaning service was fast and efficient. Maintenance (to replace the battery in the room safe) was fast. The AC was nicely loud and worked great.

Room Tip: We were in Live Oaks 490. The hotel stairs aren't the cleanest, so wait on the elevator - always...

Spent four nights in the Palmetto building. Basic accommodations but a bid dated and in need of upgrading.
There is a newer section on the property which may be a bit more upscale.
The view from the 6th floor is very nice with a private balcony.
Would be nice if there was towel service at the pool as they don't allow room towels at the pool and some people don't think to pack beach towels.

Room Tip: If you stay in Palmetto, request the 5th or 6th floor

Excellent facilities. Friendly and professional staff. Home away from home. We have been twice now and have made plans to return once a year, each year indefinitely. The resort is close to everything on the strip but it is at the beginning of South Myrtle so you do not have to fight all the traffic and congestion that you constantly have further north but you are still within 5 to 10 minutes of everything.
