“Wonderful weekend stay! Can't wait to go back.”
Reviewed April 27, 2014 via mobile

We were in town for a soccer tournament and stayed here with a bunch of our team families. The Island Vista was the perfect place to be.

The room: We needed a room to sleep 5 so we reserved a one bedroom ocean-front suite that had two queen beds, a sofa bed and a Murphy bed. It also has a nicely stocked kitchen and a full refrigerator. There was plenty of space and the room was spotless. The view of the ocean was spectacular and we enjoyed several sunrises from our large, oceanfront balcony.

The service: Check-in was a breeze and we were up in our room in minutes. The second night there, my daughter locked the bathroom door and then accidentally shut the door from the outside so we were locked out of the bathroom. One call to the front desk and a maintenance man came to our room right away. He opened the bathroom door, left us an extra key (in case it happened again) and even asked if there was anything else he could address for us. Just a super guy!

On our last day there, I asked for a late check-out due to the boys' soccer schedule that day and it was cheerfully granted.

The facilities: Our kids enjoyed the indoor pool area, the lazy river pool and the outdoor pools. It was easy and convenient to get to the ocean and we spent as much time as possible on the beach. I even used the workout facilities one night and it had several pieces of nice exercise equipment and tvs. We also ordered pizza one night from the in-house restaurant and it was terrific! The pizza came quickly and was piping hot.

In summary, we had a terrific stay at the Island Vista. The staff was helpful and friendly, the rooms clean and spacious, the location (on the ocean) was perfect. Can't wait to go again!

My husband and I really loved this place!!! The rooms are gorgeous the property truly is ocean front and beautifully maintained. There are ceiling fans in the living room and the bedroom. I wasn't crazy about the bedroom window looking out into the hotel hallway but I got over it. The rooms even had a tropical smell. Housekeeping even did a good job and that is very hard to find. There were some cable TV problems, but that was the cable company, not the hotel. The young man Sean that checked us in was very friendly and professional. We will definitely be staying at the Island Vista our next trip. We have been going to the beach for years, and this is by far the best place we have ever stayed. We are "picky" travelers, but the Island Vista met all of our needs.

Had an amazing time. Had originally booked a two bedroom suite, but when we checked in they upgraded us to a 3 bedroom suite! It was gorgeous! Beds are very comfortable...very clean...kitchens stocked with all cooking pans/utensils needed. Pool was great! Loved the free movies and drinks for Happy Hour. Highly recommend this hotel...best ever that we've stayed in! Nicest and helpful staff as well!

What a fabulous location for a family vacation! This was our first visit to Myrtle Beach and this resort made it spectacular. We were immediately upgraded from a two-bedroom to three-bedroom suite. The desk personnel couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. The suite was immaculate, and maintained in that condition during our entire visit. All the rooms were spacious and nicely appointed. We loved the ease of access to the beach, where we spent all our time in the sun. The Tiki Bar was awesome - delicious food and drinks and great service! The Cypress Room was an unbelievable perk since we had five-star dining just an elevator ride away. Five-star dining to me means delicious food and service that goes above and beyond...what a wonderful dining treat!! Both breakfast and dinner were outstanding. We would highly recommend this resort to families who want a quieter environment but with lots of activities on site and ease of access to off-site fun!! Will definitely vacation here again!!

Pros: The suite was clean and spacious. My children loved the comfortable beds and spent hours playing in the pools and lazy river. The Cypress Room breakfasts were delicious and very reasonably priced. Would definitely stay here again if the resort was the main attraction, but as they say, it's all about location, location, location...

This issue is HUGE for me and will affect when and if we'll return to Island Vista or Myrtle Beach. When we walked out on the beach for the first time, the tide was way out and the children ran right over to these pools of standing water to look for shells. I surveyed the beach and saw a giant drainpipe next to the resort pouring water directly onto the shore. There were a couple of days of rainy weather before we arrived and after Googling
"Myrtle Beach and drainage pipes", I was sickened to learn that the water they were playing in was storm water runoff from the streets and who knows where else. Look it up. Myrtle Beach is evidently notorious for its drain pipes dumping filth out onto the sand. You'll find that SC ranks #26 out of 30 states for beach water quality due to the high levels of bacteria on Grand Strand beaches. Thank goodness they weren't swimming and ingesting whatever was lurking in those huge puddles and out in the ocean. Water monitoring doesn't start until May, so there is no way of knowing if the water they were playing in had high levels of bacteria or not. We will definitely not stay at Myrtle during the summer months when they'd want to submerge in the ocean. It's such a shame because the resort was great. There are projects going on in North Myrtle to pipe storm water 1000 feet out into the ocean, but it's not being done here yet.

Thank you for visiting us at the Island Vista Resort and for your very kind comments about our accommodations and cuisine. Our location is outstanding in this long established residential neighborhood… we have convenient access to all of the area’s attractions, but offer the benefits of the quiet neighborhood and open, less crowded beaches.

Your mention of the cleanliness of the area ocean water is a very important issue, and an opportunity for me to offer some helpful information. Perhaps the best starting point would be the rankings that you mentioned… if you looked only at the number, it’s really a vague representation of (I agree) valuable information for someone who might want to swim in the ocean waters. What makes it vague are the various standards of testing frequency and the variety of areas tested among the locations. There are actually only 23 states in the U.S. that border an ocean, and each has its own procedure. Our area officials require immediate testing after rainstorms and in the most crucial areas, then immediately post conditions both online and on the beach. Beaches in all states have storm runoff, but in a lot of cases, the storm water actually overwhelms the sewer systems, and that can become a part of the runoff… not so in Myrtle Beach. Because of our cleaner storm runoff and frequent testing, it is very rare to find test conditions that require the closure of the beach. I am a scuba diver, and have been in these waters inshore and offshore since 1998 and have never had any sort of bacteria incident, and have never personally known of anyone who has since I moved here in 1990. During your visit, you might have noticed the surfboards in our neighborhood… some of those surfers are out there almost all day. They are at their happiest in the middle of a big rainstorm, and they are most often right beside that swash you mentioned. But the point is that when you compare intense frequent testing with much less required testing in other areas, naturally a more frequent find of storm runoff will be evident… it’s definitely going to look different when compared to an area like Myrtle Beach that tests just about every time it rains. The fact that our officials are concerned for the safe enjoyment of our waters is the very reason for such frequent and geographically strategic testing.

The 1000’ runoff relief project that you mentioned did actually begin in Myrtle Beach, not North Myrtle Beach, and, it began in the most vulnerable spots (such as the 3rd Ave. swash area) near the center of town, and other areas subject to a more crowded use. We were the proactive leaders of that trend, not the followers, and the swash north of our location is one of the last to be completed because it is one of the least affected runoff points. This is a project that involves millions of dollars, but more importantly, its primary focuses are the safety of our visitors and the safety of our environment. The general ocean current here is south to north, and is constant in part due to the directional flow of the clean warm waters of the Gulf Stream. Even on a calm day, it’s moving at about 4 knots. In my dive school days, I learned that our water contains so many healthy nutrients that new reef bases offshore can begin to show growth within 24 hours. It’s a big ocean and the South Carolina coast is swept clean on an hourly basis, but it’s still a source of pride to be a part of a community that is aware and active. Thank you for bringing up a sensitive subject… I’m sure all visitors to Myrtle Beach will be pleased to know the way our officials choose to address that priority.

Thank you again for choosing the Island Vista.

We've been going to Island Vista the past five of six years. It's located a bit down from the louder resort area in a more residential neighborhood area. We like that most about it. The resort has indoor pool, lazy river, restaurant with bar. Outside are two pools and an awesome tiki bar for warmer weather months. I think they open it closer to Easter. The rooms are spacious with our favorite being the three bedroom condo. We have two kids and the two bedroom deluxe is awesome too as the master is on the waterfront. The basic two bedroom is quite a bit smaller and bedrooms are along inside walls and darker and stuffier.

This year we had issues upon check in. We got there early and were told they'd get right on it. They didn't. After returning three times a manager was called (only upon my request) as it was 5:30pm and check-in is 4:00pm. Mark intervened and said it was in process. He gave us keys to bring to the room (that wasn't yet done) and we sat there until completed after 6pm. It's too bad but put a damper on our excitement as kids were hungry and we couldn't get cleaned up for dinner until late. Mark did, after we checked out, refund us 10% of our room rate.

The hot tub was broken the entire time we were there. It was cooler that week and nobody wants to jump into a cold outdoor pool. So the hot tub was a huge loss. I see a review posted on April 6th it was broken back then so weeks it's been "out of service" as we checked out 2 weeks later.

The highlight for us is Charles the mgr of the a tiki bar. If you travel there, find him, get to know him. He is the picture of southern hospitality. The waiters in the restaurant (and bar) Cypress Room have been there for years too. It's so nice to come back to familiar faces...like coming home. The front desk staff leaves a lot to be desired. They don't hold the enthusiasm you see in the tiki or restaurant staff. They are the first staff you see and the last so that issue should be fixed pronto..another issue posted in previous reviews.

The rooms are clean, well kept, and we enjoy it every year. You take your chances with spring break weather in March or April though. Mostly cool and overcast all week.

Looking forward to visiting next year and saying hello to our Island Vista friends.

Room Tip: Family of four I'd say two bedroom DELUXE or three bedroom. Basic 2 bedroom is very small and ro...

Upon arrival we were upgraded to a 3 bedroom suite, which was awesome for our teenage daughter and her pre-teen brother. Everyone who works here is very friendly! We spent some time on the beach and some time by the pool. They have the best French fries! The restaurant is really good too. The best thing was the free movie rental service. We watched a new, different movie every night. You won't be disappointed if you stay here!
