“Greatest Vacation Ever in Myrtle Beach, SC”
Reviewed April 25, 2011

This is the second year we have vacationed in Myrtle Beach SC. We stayed at Island Vista (2 bedroom grand) in 2009 and when we returned in 2011, we stayed there again. We had the best time. The staff is fantastic and the food/activities are great. Staying on the beach is a great experience. To wake up to the sounds of the ocean is like heaven. My mom, 13 year old daughter and 7 year old son had a truly outstanding time and will return again in 2012 to stay in the 3 bedroom corner suite, which the staff so graciously allowed us to see when we checked out. It was so awesome, my son expects us to go every month. :) Wonderful time-can't wait till May 2012!! The Trammell's, LOUISVILLE, KY

The hotel, restaurant and staff was wonderful. The accommodations were absolutely first rate and the unique indoor/outdoor pool added much fun for the children. This was our second stay at Island Vista and we hope for many more....

After having a not so perfect vacation in Myrtle Beach the previous year the Island Vista renewed my great memory of Myrtle Beach. This resort is perfect and such a treasure.
We are seniors who had our children and grandchildren visit and all enjoyed their stay. From the bell staff who helped us on arrival to the front desk , room attendants, and the wonderful restaurant staff and the great bar attendant and not to forget the wonderful chef who prepared such great meals and presented them in such a showcase.

We visited the beach in March 2011 and stayed at the island Vista. Very nice hotel, nice friendly front desk attendants. We enjoed the stay, but the beds were not very comfortable. They need to improve on the mattress. I did not sleep at all the first night. We would stay here, but hopefully we get a better bed.

We booked a 1,400 square foot suite at Island Vista that sleeps 10 people for 2 nights at around $370 a night. Are first impression of the room was that it was really nice. We were staying there on a friday and saturday night during March Madness so there were basketball games on. Our first problem came around 8:30pm on friday when we were all watching the basketball game. I heard a knock at the door and went to answer it. It was a maitnance guy said the front desk got a noice complaint about out room. I tried to tell him that we were watching a basketball game and this was the loudest we get. I than procedded to shut the door and show him that you can't hear us. He didn't even want to talk to me about it and threatened to call the cops on us and get us kicked out right now. At this point I just walked back into the room and continued watching the game. We called the front desk and talked to some lady that told us that they had rooms open and she was going to call the people that complained and move them to a different room. Come to find out later that she did do that but the people refused to. Later that night, we were in the room about to go to bed when we hear another knock at the door. This time it was the maitnance guys and the Myrtle Beach police. They told us that they had another complaint and that we had to leave in the middle of the night. The police officers were really nice and even agreed with us that we weren' loud and convinced them to let us stay for the night but we couldn't stay for the second night. At no time so far have we dealt with the manager or general manager. In the morning when we grab our bags from the corner of the room to pack, a bunch of giant cockroaches came out from underneath our bag. We ended up captureing one of them and takeing it to the front desk to show the general manager. We showed him and asked to get a discount on the room but he wouldn't do anything. Since we paid for two night already he said he would refund us for the second night but not the full amount. He ended up giving the people that complained a free night on there $100 room and that he was charging us for it. I tried to tell him that he couldn't do that but he wouldn't listen to me. I have never met a general manager that has been so rude to me and has never gotten involved and just let his maitnance people deal with it. So we got stuck with paying almost $500 for one night there. While we were in the parking garage packing up the cars, he decided to come out there with some maitnance guys and watch us. I asked him what he was doing and he said that they wanted to make sure we left the property. I have already disputed the charge and im filling a complaint with the BBB.

VistaFan, Manager at Island Vista, responded to this review, April 19, 2011
Island Vista guests choose our property for its unique quiet location and for our policies which are in place for the general quiet enjoyment of our accommodations. Our staff began contact with these young guests in the early evening with response to noise complaints. We respect the rights of our guests to peaceful quiet enjoyment of our resort… we will contact a room about such matters only when the need is reported or is obvious in public areas like the lobby, elevators, etc (such as very loud talking, foul language, etc. upon entrance at 2:00am into the lobby). Security’s written report of contact actually began at 11pm and states that about 2:45am, after repeated unsuccessful attempts to ask the guests to be quiet, the local police were called to assist.

After contact with the guests, the police consulted with our night staff and security officer, who were told that if the guests were evicted at that time, they would be immediately arrested for reasons peripheral to the noise disturbances. Our staff made the decision to allow them to stay as long as there were no further complaints and with the understanding that they would be required to leave the following morning.

As seen by our staff and the police, these guests were unable to realize or remember the various offenses. Most statements in this complaint are factually incorrect, and based on the reports submitted by our staff, we must doubt the validity of the complaint regarding bugs, especially in view of the fact that we’ve had no such prior complaints from this room, written or otherwise.

The matter is unfortunate in every regard. These young guests are not aware that it was our good nature and understanding that prevented them from being arrested when perhaps they should have been. In the end, our policies are in place to protect the interests of all of our guests, and as a result, events such as these are very isolated. Had these young guests acted in a responsible manner during their stay, their comments would likely have been of a different nature. Hospitality and guest service are our top priorities always.

We stayed here on our honeymoon. It was really nice. It was clean, comfortable and I picked this hotel because of the room colors and most of the reviews. I know this sounds weird but having a room that is the color of a beach ball really freaks me out. I like it to look a little fancier than that. It had a really nice place for children to play. The pool wasn't crowded too much so it was nice. It was right on the beach. Me and my husband walked on the beach several nights. The pillows were the best part of the stay. I actually pulled one out of the pillow cover to see what company made them. They had a fire alarm go off so we had to get out of our room and stand in the parking lot for an hour or so till they said it was okay to go back in which was a nuisance but things happen. Some smoker probably couldn't stand it and used a cigarette in a stairwell. I never seen any smoke or anything. It didn't ruin my experience. I am planning on staying here again.

I enjoyed most of our stay here. But in the single rooms they use 2 twin mattresses to make a King bed, this sux bad. I was on an anniversary trip with my wife and could not snuggle with her at night or I would fall into the crack between the 2 mattresses..who ever the genius was that came up with that short cut needs to be fired, and then feed to the sharks. There also was no table in the room and that made it uncomfortable to use lap top or eat a sandwich. I also thought the comforters were a bit cheap, most of the nicer motels I stay at have linen covered comforters so that everything you touch gets washed between tenants. overall the place is nice, the indoor pools and hot tub were very nice and well maintained/clean. the beach was very accessible, the grounds were clean and well kept, covered parking on your floor, very convenient. internet worked great. the elevators worked well, and enclosed hall ways, with no outdoor exposure needed to get to the hot tub. not sure why towels are not put out at the pool, instead of having to go to the front desk for a pool towel.
