“Wonderful time!”
Reviewed August 23, 2006

We chose Grande Shores after reading all the wonderful comments and ratings. We were so happy upon arrival. It was a nice hotel. We stayed there August 14-18 and had a great time. It was me and my husband and our 5-year-old son. We stayed in room 409 which was a great room. We had an oceanfront hotel room with a full size fridge with freezer which was very nice to have in case we had leftover food from restaurants. There was plenty of room then for all our soda and other items in there unlike those compact fridges most hotels furnish. There also was a microwave in our room which was on a nice cart where we could store all of our snacks. Our room was extremely clean and smelled very fresh each day. The maids did an excellent job cleaning our room and always gave us plenty of clean towels. We didn't use the 7th floor pool or lazy river but they did look nice. We used the indoor pool which was very nice and we used the other outdoor pool and lazy river. The lazy river could have been a little deeper but other than that it was very nice. We loved the fact it had a playground on the grounds for our son. It was only steps from the beach which was excellent for us because our son always wanted to go from the beach to the pool area so that worked well. They had an adequate amount of lounge chairs outside. They always had food by the pool area around lunch time that you could buy. We ate the breakfast buffet one morning in the Shoreline Cafe on the premises and that was extremely good and plentiful for the money and plus our son was free so it only cost us $14.00 to eat for me and my husband which we thought was very reasonable. Everyone was very friendly. We have an Explorer and we did fine parking in the spaces provided. We could always park on our floor level which was so nice for us. The part we also loved was the fact it was the last hotel on that road so it was by a residential area and not down by all the other hotels where it seemed so busy. We liked that. The beach was not crowded at all. We have nothing bad to say. We had a great time and will definitely go back to Grande Shores in the future should we return to Myrtle Beach.

Let me start by saying that we booked this resort in the 11th hour. We knew we were going to Myrtle Beach, but unsure of where to stay. After reading several reviews on trip advisor, we started to get discouraged. Finally, there was a review that seemed promising, Grande Shores. I called the resort directly and immediately booked our rooms. The resort staff was friendly at check-in and the room was immaculate. Before we could get settled, the front desk called to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. We were in a smoking room and could not tell. However, one should know that the two double beds are as soon as you walk into the room. We can't tell you about the maid service, we chose not to use. We only asked for fresh linens. Getting up early was not on our agenda. By the way, we stayed in a one bedroom condo that had a kitchen. Because we were on vacation, we did not use it frequently. Hot dogs in the microwave and cereal in the morning was as much as we used the kitchen. We used the ocean front pool and lazy river which was a hop from the beach. This pool area included a bar, grill, and playground. The resort also had a breakfast buffet for seven dollars. Parking was ample, more spaces for compact cars than SUV's. But we always found a space upon returning from an outing. This resort was located in a quiet residential neighborhood centered between attractions, restaurants, hospital, driving range, outlet and mall shopping. The broadband internet access was flawless. If you don't bring your laptop, there is a computer in the business area, located in the restaurant. ATM is available also. All the conveniences of home, but miles away from home worries.

We just got back from staying at the Grande Shores. We choose this hotel for our family vacation based on the reviews we read at this site. I have to say that the reviewers did not let us down.

Our room was clean and nice. We had an ocean view, but unfortunately didn't get to enjoy our balcony. Our room (#305) was located right over the hotel's restaurant and their grease trap. It ws yucky to look down into the grease trap and it smelled greasy when we were on our balcony.

My kids (age 11 &4) had a great time in the lazy rivers and pools. The one lazy river and the pool on the 7th floor are pretty shallow so my 4 year old was able to stand in the water. That made pooltime alot easier for us. The beach was clean and not crowded. Everyone was very polite and helpful.

I would definitely stay again, but would stay in a different room.

This was a good hotel for a family with a limited budget. We had a one bedroom unit on the condo side, and it was enough space for 3 adults and 2 kids. It would have been nice to have a second bathroom (as I think the one bedroom units on the hotel side have) though.

The kitchen had a full sized refrigerator/ freezer, oven and stove. There were 6 of each utensil, and plenty of pots, pans and spoons for cooking. There was very little counter space, but it was workable. There is also a lot of storage space in a one bedroom condo- 3 closets and 7 drawers. We had plenty of space for everything.

The rooms were very clean. The housekeeping staff did a great job every day. The decor could use some updating, and the blankets were a bit old, but we overlooked that. The elevator floors were often wet, but that is to be expected for a hotel at the beach with 11 pools. There were a few places in the common areas which could have used a spruce up or some paint.

The beach wasn't too crowded, except one day when it was a new moon, and the tide caused to water to be almost up to the dunes. Most days it was MUCH less crowded than a few blocks south near the Sands Resorts complex where it was very crowded every day.

The pools were clean, but the water was very salty, even on the rooftop pools (they are much less crowded up there though). All of the hot tubs were very hot, kind of Japanese style.

The breakfast buffet wasn't special, but had the basics at a very reasonable price. The lunch grill at the pool was the same, just burgers, etc, but not overpriced. We never ate dinner in the restaurant.

Overall, this was a very positive experience. I think some people on this site need to realize that when you pay $150 for a 2 room suite during the summer months that you're not getting a four star experience. If they want a super nice hotel, the Marriott on 82nd street is very nice, and more than double the cost of Grande Shores.

  • Liked — easy beach access, good prices for a suite
  • Disliked — decor needed updating
  • Tips/Secrets — order in from Hot Wing Express- surprisingly good Chinese/ Thai/ American cuisine

We just returned from Grande Shores. We were going to have to cancel our vacation due to some money issues and then I got on trip advisor and asked for help for cheap, clean hotels near northern MB. Grande Shores was suggested and I am so glad we made our reservations. The hotel was clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly. When we first arrived that was no microwave in the room and I called down to see if we could get one and it was there in 15 minutes. They are very quick and friendly. The pools were clean. When we first got there the 7th floor roof lazy river was contamination by a toodler and they very quickly closed it and clean it. I didn't go up there though we stayed on the beach or the beach front pools. We still like North Myrtle Beach better but we return to Grande Shores again with no hesitation. THANKS GRANDE SHORES FOR SAVING OUR VACATION!

On a last minute request, we were given a room for the night at the peak of the summer beach season. We had just stayed two of the worst days of the vacation from RIGHT DOWN THE Street. These folks were super. The food in the motel restaurant was great and the overall service was fantastic. Their website is saved to my favorite for our next outing.

We came to Myrtle Beach for the first time on June 3, and we stayed at the Grand Shores on the recommendation of relatives. We have kids ages 2 & 5 and this place is great with little ones.
The staff is very friendly, everyone is polite and they took care of all our needs. The 3 pools are clean and beautiful, the hot tubs are a touch warm and take some getting used to. We stayed on the 5th floor with an ocean view and it was fine. The beds though really are not that comfortable, kind of hard, and the water pressure in the shower is a little low, but the room was clean and the maid service was excellent.
The outside pool has convenient bar next to it and they have great griiled burgers and stuff at lunchtime. It's nice to be able to go back and forth from the ocean to the pool throughout the day, the beach there is awesome, clean and uncrowded. There are planned activities all afternoon for the kids, and our liitle girls just loved the college girls that coordinate all the games and activities.
The place is quiet with no rowdy teenagers running around. The breakfast buffet was good and very reasonable, the kids ate free, so it only cost us $14.00 for the 4 of us.
We liked it here so much that we came back 5 weeks later for another week and had a wonderful time all over again.

  • Liked — on the beach, clean resort, family oriented
