“Groupon deal-Sept 12-16”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2013

I booked this vacay after trying to convince my hubby for weeks that we needed a beach getaway with our new infant son. He finally agreed & I found this deal on Groupon. This was my 1st time booking/buying anything from Groupon so after I booked I was a little nervous about what I had gotten us in to. So, I started reading the TripAdvisor reviews & I was blown away at all the negative things ppl were saying, especially about the smaller/older side of the hotel. I started getting very nervous about out trip. I even called the hotel several times asking about possibly upgrading to a suite in the newer side of the hotel after arrival. The staff assured me that it would be no problem & they told me they thought we would be pleased with the hotel.

We arrive Sept 12 & I am very pleased at what I see from the outside. We were traveling with another couple, so myself & my friend went inside to check in while the men stayed outside with the baby. We had a friendly greeting & check in was no problem. Alejandro at the front desk stated that we would be able to upgrade the next day to a suite if we so chose based on availability. Us ladies went up to check out our rooms while the men unloaded the cars. We were pleasantly suprised at the cleanliness of the rooms. That night we did realize that space was an issue with an infant & also that the air conditioner was super cold & blew on one particular bed all night. We either froze or burnt up. We decided the next day to upgrade & I am so glad we did. We had suite 934. Full kitchen, Ocean view balcony & my favorite, a washer & dryer. (Boy did my priorities change when I had a baby, lol). Our stay was more than pleasurable, beautiful beaches, friendly staff & super clean premises. I will not book through Groupon again. It did not save us any money. We will be back, & in fact were talking with an owner of our suite neighbor on the way out. The suites are extremely affordable to purchase. Who knew. I don't know what kind of expectations the previous review writers had, but this is by no means a "dump". Do not believe all the reviews you read. Travel with an open mind.

We got ocean front on 14th floor a little too high for my taste but we got used to it, and we later enjoyed the view, all the staff was friendly, but I would have liked them to add more fun stuff to the kid pools, the parking lot is not so close as i was told even when you paid 8 dollars you have to walk across the street, there is another parking lot that is free but i don't know where is located, but after that we enjoyed our vacations, beach access was really easy. I would said the price was fair for 1 room suite with 2 double beds, full equipped kitchen, big microwave, 1 little coffee maker, washer and dryer, sofa bed and balcony. We paid 118.00/night. Got free breakfast for 2 days and played for free at the miniature golf just in front of the hotel. We will come back next year for sure.

Room Tip: Subscribe to best western rewards, is easy and quick. Kids pool and lazy river too cold in September...

Very nice place to stay! Staff was extra friendly. Service was great. Very clean. Nothing negative to say, but if I had to say something it would be that the parking is a little far compared to others, although we had great weather so it wasn't a problem, and the kid pools don't compare to some others. Other than those two things, it was great and I would stay there again and again!

We stayed at the Best Western based on TripAdvisor reviews and looking for some place that was reasonably priced, yet had direct beach access. This is not a four or five star hotel, but it's a very efficient and clean hotel that's well situated for all that there is to do in Myrtle Beach. If you're looking for something over the top, romantic and ready to pamper you, this is not that hotel. If you are looking for a clean room with direct access to the beach, then this is perfect.

LOBBY / FIRST IMPRESSIONS: The lobby is a bit small and not overly impressive. Could use a renovation or makeover as there's some peeling wallpaper and such, but not a big deal. We checked in on a Thursday afternoon around 4:30 and had no problems getting checked in right away. The hallways and elevators on the first floor could use some updating and were a bit rough, but when you have people tracking sand in all day long that is going to be an issue. But honestly, we're not paying for a fancy lobby here, the staff was courteous and efficient and that's all we needed.

PARKING: Parking is located about 1 block away from the hotel in a parking garage. It's free or you can pay $8 per day for valet. We were here off season in September and there were times we found it hard to find a space when we came back in the evening. Not sure how this would be during season, but it definitely seems like the parking situation is a bit small for a hotel this size. The garage is also overflow for the Blue Green hotel.

ROOM: We stayed in room 605 which is a King Oceanfront Room. That's an important distinction when booking a room. Oceanfront vs. Oceanview. Oceanfront means the rooms on the beach side of the hotel overlooking the ocean. Oceanview could be on either side so you have a "view" of the ocean but not overlooking the ocean. This was a clean room, could use some remodeling and updated furniture, but what was here was functional and worked. Room was supplied with a coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge. The bathtub continually dripped and we couldn't stop that, but that was a minor quibble. The biggest issue we actually had with the room itself was the A/C unit did not have a directional control for the airflow. It was aimed directly at the bed so when it was running, it was a blast of cold air directly on me while I was trying to sleep. I ended up fashioning a "towel wall" to redirect the air and you can see that in the photos. One note that the Oceanfront rooms also overlook the main pool so when that area gets noisy with kids, you will hear it in your room.

POOL / BEACH: Nothing fancy about the pools though they do have both the "lazy river" and a second pool in a covered area between the two towers. The main pool is completely unshaded during the first half of the day until the sun comes around to the back side of the building. So if you're looking for shade around the pools, definitely utilize the second pool/lazy river area. It always seemed to have a nice cross breeze in this area too. As for the beach, two direct access walkways right out onto the beach. We noticed that the beach itself was a bit softer than what we found in Hilton Head. The building itself throws a really nice shade onto the beach in the latter parts of the afternoon so if you want to sit out on the beach in the shade, you can actually do that in front of this hotel.

WIFI / INTERNET: The hotel advertised that wifi was only available in common areas and hardwire would be required in the rooms for internet. However we found that wifi was fully functional in our room and all our devices picked up full strength signals. It was free and really worked well. I love how the lower priced hotels are the ones that give us the free internet.

OVERALL: We paid approx. $100/night for a 4 night stay and this could not have been a more perfect choice for us. The direct access to the beach, a clean room and proximity to the restaurants and attractions we wanted to visit was great. It's not a glamorous hotel, it's just efficient and that's all we needed. We would definitely recommend the Best Western if you're looking for a great value for all that Myrtle Beach has to offer.

Room Tip: Oceanfront rooms also overlook the main pool so it can get noisy when a lot of kids are playing the...
