“Loved the Lodges!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2006

We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit in Lodge I - it was on the 4th floor so the screened in porch looked out thru the trees tops at the walk way to the beach. While the unit wasn't plush with granite countertops and the like, it was very comfortable for our family of 5. Since it had 2 bathroom/showers, a full kitchen, eating area and nice living room area we felt like we were at home. We really liked the floor plan as the master bedroom was at one end of the unit and the 2nd bedroom was at the opposite end - made it great to send the kids to bed and we could relax and watch TV or sit out on the porch or enjoy the peace and quiet of the master bedroom.

The other part of Ocean Creek we really liked was the overall property - this place is big - it is not a single building on the beach with a parking lot around the building. The grounds are very nicely landscaped and all the previous reviews and comments on the grounds being wonderful are correct. There are a variety of unit types, IE: Towers, Lodges, Tennis Villas, Greens and Garden Homes. (The Towers are on the beach and the Lodges are just west of the Towers.) If you stay in the Villas, Greens or Garden Homes be prepared for a walk to the beach, or take the tram that shuttles to the beach. In addition to the pool down at the beach, each of the different unit types have their own pool - at times we were the only ones in the pool. While the Lodge units are not oceanfront/view, it was a very short walk to the Beach and they are half the price of a Tower unit. Since the Lodges are back in amongst the trees it is an extremely peaceful and relaxing setting!

We all enjoyed the beach and the pools, but the kids really liked the swash/creek between the Towers and the beach. At low tide the swash is one giant sand box to play in and at high tide its one giant water area to play in (no waves to beat up the little kids). I went to the hotel next door and took a picture of Ocean Creek's beach pool, swash and towers - see the pics (the buildings behind the tower in the photo are single family houses next door to Ocean Creek - the Lodges are to the right of the tower and out of frame in this photo). Since we rented the place by the week via another web site (I doubt TA wants me to promote some one else, so I wont say the other website) we did not have any daily housekeeping service.

Bottom line - for what you pay, there is no better value on the beach. Ocean Creek was a wondeful place for us and we will return to stay in the Lodges!

  • Liked — The unit was great and resonably priced and Ocean Creek's location is terrific.
  • Disliked — The units are not identical - some are better maintained than others.
  • Tips/Secrets — Ask for Lodge 1 or 2 - saves $$ when compared to a tower unit, but they're the closest Lodges to the beach.

We stayed at Ocean Creek during Aug 1-4, 2006 and had a great time. We had a one-bedroom Lodge Villa accomodation which was roomy, very clean, and very nicely furnished. Maid service was good and front desk staff very friendly. There was a large (uncrowded) pool right behind our villa and a short walk took us to the beach. We would most definitely stay here again. When I read some of the bad reviews of Ocean Creek, it makes me wonder if we're all talking about the same place!

I booked a condo for a week, paid the booking fee, then cancelled except for one night as it was non-refundable after a certain date. I cancelled because after reading a few reviews I got nervous but figured hey check it out for one night as we weren't getting our money back anyway...how bad could it be for $300 a night? When we checked in they gave us a room that I wouldn't put my worst enemy in...the toilet seat had alligatored paint, the balcony had unsafe railings, the carpet was stained, the furniture had holes and it was in general "joke" condition. How they could rent this for to me is hard to conceive. The people at the front desk must never look at the condos. I must admit the alligatored paint toilet seat almost threw me over the edge...beyond gross. How that could ever be cleaned is beyond me.

The staff at the front was not very pleasant either...maybe because they were real busy..but that is no excuse. They let us look at an ocean view room after complaining about the condition and it was better but not great either. We decided we didn't want to stay here even if they gave us the room...so we headed back to Kingston, Embassy Suites Resort and extended our stay there an extra day....a much better place I would recommend. In their defense, Ocean Creek gladly refunded our money since we were only down to a one night stay and at that point I don't think they wanted a scene at the front desk. Perhaps there are individual owners who take pride in their units and keep them updated...but be wary of the ones they rent out from the front desk. Where is the owners association here? I'll never go back...and rate this place a 1/4 out of 5

My family stayed in a two bedroom/2 bath condo. We were pleasantly surprised with the size of the rooms, the balcony was huge and the view was gorgeous-we stayed in the penthouse. However, the room was very outdated, the furntiure was old (but clean), the mattresses and beds were uncomfortable (we bought our own blankets once we got there), the tvs were from the 1980s. The condo was very clean so we didn't let the other stuff bother us too much. The resort itself is gorgeous, the grounds are expansive and there are trees and nice landscaping. The beach is uncrowded and there is an inlet that runs between the hotel and the beach when the tide is in, perfect for finding sea creatures such as hermit crabs. There is the beach club pool which is nice and they have daily kids activities. Each hotel has their own pool as well. I would stay here again if I booked through an owner and could see the room before I booked. The staff is friendly and the housekeeping is great-they even load the dishwasher for you if there are dishes in the sink!!!

We recently stayed at Ocean Creek. I agree with those that say it is amazing. At the same time, however, I must advise those with small children to be very watchful, especially if staying in the North Tower. The bars on the balcony are horizontal with at least five inches of space in between each. We have a four year old and 8month old and we were terrified of turning our backs for even a second. For a place that advertises a family getaway, we were not impressed with the design of the North Tower condo balconies.

Just got back from Ocean Creek Resort, and enjoyed every second. Check-in was quick and easy. Our room was a simple studio, one bath. More than enough for my wife a me. The resort is covered in trees which makes almost feel like your at a mountain resort. The beach was only a short walk from our lodge. We also had a pool right outside our door. I've stayed in numerous hotels and resorts around the world. And for the price this one cant be beat.
Also, use google earth to get a better view of the property.

Ocean Creek Resort was recommended by an acquaintance of ours but unfortunately we did not know about the variance in the conditions of the rooms. We had heard that the South Tower is better in general but it was full so we were booked a 2 BR/2bath condo in North Tower (B-12 to be exact).

Ocean Creek is in a great location in North Myrtle Beach and I would stay in that area again but not necessarily in Ocean Creek unless we know a condo owner with a nice unit. The condo (again B-12 North Tower) was dated and had below average mattresses and bedding (that cheap thin polyester motel crap). The carpeting was worn and the unit was decorated in 80's colors. The wallpaper was coming off in the master bath and you could tell that its installation was done carelessly. It was extremely difficult to open the sliding glass door from the LR to the balcony. The view was fine - no trailer park! Most importantly, the room was NOT very clean. It needed vacuuming and dusting. Luckily, someone brought some disinfectant spray for the bath fixtures. The tub spout clearly still had soap scum on it so we cleaned it ourselves. YUK! The kitchen was adequate but had dated appliances which was OK. The a/c was fine. We voiced our concerns upon check-out but no one seemed to care.

It was a quiet location which was good. The outdoor pools were nice and we did like the employees at the beach bar/cafe!
