“Nice room”
Reviewed April 6, 2013 via mobile

We had a family of 5 in a 3-bedroom unit. The unit was spacious and perfect for our needs. Washer and dryer in the unit, kitchen, etc. Great balcony on the ocean side, good location. Now for the downside. Every time we walked in the unit we were affronted by a lingering odor of fried food. We stayed for a week and on our housekeeping day we had to call down to get housekeeping. The spa was not very luxurious. My daughters and I got manis and pedis. They forgot about the soothing music until towards the end and then something was wrong with the music, because it came out all warped and funny sounding. When I paid for the services the woman asked me if I wanted her to tack on a 20% tip "as is customary." I didn't appreciate being told what is customary; plus, the service was not worth 20%. I would have preferred being allowed to write in how much of a tip I wanted to add myself! Chair rentals on the beach are expensive ($30 for two chairs). Valet service was chaotic. Lobby is very small. The Starbucks in the hotel has only one person working in it, which can be a problem when s/he wants to take a break. All in all, just not enough amenities.

Not a full service hotel, not a real "Spa", "Club" or "Resort", the name sets you up for disappointment. This is a time share property - at very best a three star rating. There is an odor of greasy cooked food in the hallways because each unit has a small kitchen and they must not be able to remove the cooking odors left by visitors. There is a restaurant across the street, but none in the building. Tiny lobby, few amenities. I paid more for this hotel because I expected a place where in the event of inclement weather we could entertain ourselves onsite - this was not the place for that. There is a small indoor pool and jacuzzi, but the kids could only be there for so long before looking for something else to do and there was nothing else. I would not return here or recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: The studio rooms have only ONE bed, and no pull out couch.

We actually bought into this property while we were in New York. Was very excited to bring my children and grandchildren. Reserved 2 rooms, oceanfront. Received a call a few days prior to coming and was told that there were all sorts of activities for the kids, free putt putt golf, access to another resort that had an indoor pool with a Cave and Lazy river. Was even more excited since I knew the weather would be rain and colder than normal. Arrived and was told that they no longer have access to the other pool, the indoor pool here is SMALL. Kids went down to play putt putt gold and was told only from 4 - 7 pm and also when questioned about kid activities, was told that starts on Memorial Day. So everything told during the pre-call was FALSE. I talked to the concierge about what we were promised and she said the manager would contact me and make sure to make up for our disappointment. The manager NEVER called. Couches and chairs in living room are so uncomfortable. And why they put my children and grandchildren on the 8th floor and us on the 19th floor is very confusing. I would think they would keep us closer. Daughter's room had no hot water for 3 days and when called on it was told that she was the only one to complain. I was FURIOUS. I don't know where the positive comments are coming from about how friendly the staff are...didn't see much of that. And the breakfast buffet across the street that we paid $ 81 for was HORRIBLE. McDonald's would have been better. This is the WORST Hilton resort I have ever stayed at and would NEVER come back. Glad to know that even though we bought into this resort, we don't have to waste our points on coming back but can instead use it towards the better resorts that Hilton offers. Find out before you come if it is a TRUE Hilton resort because this one is not. It actually allows rooms to be rented out like a hotel.

We went as part of the HGVC club package- we still paid almst $300 per night for a 2 bedroom.
it was not part of the HGVC it was owend separately they told us.
The living kitchen area was tiny- had to go outside to see the water- -it was a side room. The pool is very narrow with an odd grass area for chairs. There simply not enough room for a pool. The inside pool is very nice for kids.
I like the Royal Palm or North Beach Plantation much, much more.

Room Tip: get oceanfront- dont count on the pool!

We had a wonderful time. The weather was cold but the resort was very nice.Hotel staff extremely polite.I would suggest waiting until after Easter if your with your kids because none of the amusement parks were open yet, although we did play miniature golf. We went to the a lot of the tourist attractions in the area. There is a great buffet across the street for breakfast. They have an indoor pool as well at the hotel. We had an ocean view which was lovely.

Room Tip: they do not have an on site restaurant but do have a Starbucks in the lobby

The hotel is in a great location along the Myrtle Beach Strand, very easy access to most attractions and activities. The hotel is quite nice and it appears that improvements are underway as we experienced the sound of construction noise on the weekdays. The staff was quite effecient and helpful, eager to answer any of our questions and assist with making reservations to shows and for tee times. Biggest complaint was the quality of their wifi service. It is free in the room but the signal was so weak that you had to use 4g for smart devices and inoperative for laptops. The resort has the potential to be one of the best in the area with a few tweeks and attention to detail.

Room Tip: All rooms have ocean view, the higher you go the better and bigger the view.

This is the fourth or fifth time we have stayed at the Anderson for Canadian March Break. This year, on arrival, it appeared that our ocean-front room had not be vacuumed. We phoned down and they sent someone up within 15 minutes...very good response time. In the morning, we noticed that the carpet in the living area was really worn and the walls have taken a beating. Throughout the week, both hot tubs had issues, one broken down for a time with broken glass in it and the other running either way too hot or luke warm.
The minature golf course across the street (free play) was not open for the entire week.
Overall, value for this property has suffered. The rates per night suggest that the property should be better kept than it is.
Unfortunately, the Anderson may not be our first choice next year.

On a related topic, but with no connection to the Anderson, we have found the Can-Am days to be much smaller and low profile than say five years ago. Two of the events that we enjoyed in the past are now on the 'head north' second weekend of the holiday. I don't know how many Canadians can take part in the 'welcome' at the Myrtle Beach Convention Centre scheduled for the end of the week or the open house at the state park. Too bad.
