“Not luxury, but nice for the Myrtle Beach area”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2006

Our late July stay was a fine one. The hotel is not luxurious, but it is clean and adequate. There are very few luxury-type hotels in this area. The only one I'm aware of is the Marriott.

LOCATION
The location is quite nice. Not on "the Strip" where the noise is, but it's close enough to be convenient.

ROOM
Our Angle Oceanview King Efficiency was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was small, but we made do. Plenty of towels, etc. Our bed was comfortable and cozy. The kitchenette was perfect for our needs. I was disappointed in the location of our room. I was told on the phone that the angle oceanview gave a 45 degree view of the ocean. I expected to be at least on the ocean side of the building. But actually, we were on the street side, with our balcony partially street front. I called the front desk with the complaint, but got "That's what you paid for."

SERVICE
Service was so-so. The front desk was not terribly friendly or accomodating. Housekeeping was fantastic, though. The lady at the gift shop was also very sweet.

We were never able to make use of the pool area, though it looked nice. Overally, our stay was fine.

We stayed 3 nights from July 25-28 2006. The place was absolutely as good as advertised! The beach was better than we had hoped. The pictures of crabgrass like brush had us a little worried. Fortunately it is in between the hotel and the beach and does not affect the beach at all. There was plenty of beach space to go around. Even though it was fairly crowded we always found a spot readily available. I do take issue with the people who race down to put towels on the picnic tables and then never sit in them. By 10 am all tables were spoken for, but they were never more than half full. A bit of a waste and a testament to those greedy individuals. We never got to use them the entire time. The pools were great. A little crowded with kids at times, but always clean and always enough chairs. The hotel itself is not fancy. The corridors are a little dingy and could smell musty at times due to the humidity. My wife was thinking "oh, oh" when we were going to our room. But inside everything was fresh, clean and comfortable. The view was great. Our balcony was 90 degrees from the ocean but still provided great sightlines. The beds were comfy and the rooms were very quiet. Great nights sleep for all 4 of us every night. The shower could have a little more pressure, but was not terrible. The staff was friendly and helpful. Check in and out was a breeze. (2 minutes or less). If the views are not essential to you I would consider staying across the street. Their building there costs a little less, and you will probably have to park over there anyway. We got lucky only once and were able to park on the beach side of the hotel. All in all it was a great, comfortable place. Not too glamorous but has everything you need to have a great time.

Booked this hotel based on good reviews here. Everything about this place was great. Hard to find anything that was not above par. My choice from here on out when I visit Myrtle Beach.

After staying in the Yachtsman’s the last 2 years, now only residential .I think I found my new hotel home , all the good reviews below talked about the same things , here is my
Take on the hotel and why I like it, (male/35 yrs young).

-big discount if you stay 5 or more nights
-Functional kitchen with all the appliances.
-Clean Laundry facilities in the building.
-Ice machine was never out of ice , (5 days)
-Parking was almost always under the hotel and steps away from the elevator.
-Free internet access, 2 computers.
-Cleaning ladies were great; the room looked as good as the first day every day.
-Air conditioner was some times too cold.
-Water pressure for the shower was powerful.
-Not many teenagers and kids , was mainly adult crowds . there isn’t any lazy rivers and pools for the kids, I guess big reason the hotel looks as good as it looks .
-The beach front and the sand were clean.
-Was so quiet at night = good night sleep.
-Uncle John’s restaurant was steps away, good food and great people (5am-3pm).
-Stayed in the west building, saved me over $60 a night, all I had to do is cross 2 Lane Street to be at the beach, to me that was worth $60 /night.

I hope this can help, can’t wait to go back.

Husband and I just returned from a two night, three day stay at the Dayton House. Accomidations are really nice. Main problem was, I had booked an ocean front king suite. The room they gave us was on the first floor, with only a view of the pool! I requested to be moved and they were able to accomodate us........however we were moved into a queen suite, as all of thier king suites are on the first floor! The pools are beautiful and very clean! We did have trouble locating the exercise room. All the signs say it is by the parking garage across the street. After wondering around to all the buildings, staff finally told us it was behind the parking lot, across the street. No big deal, just a little annoying. Really enjoyed the internet connection in the office. Nice place, will probably stay again!

We arrived at Dayton House and check-in was a breeze- 1 or 2 minutes. Parking is across the street as there are only a few spots under the building. We stayed in the North Building, which just has a room with the carts, a couple chairs, and a wall of brochures. There are two elevators and they were both clean.

The room was clean and it was an efficiency suite. When we entered there was a sink with a large countertop and hair dryer. The restroom has a toliet and shower. The bathroom is a little small and was very clean. On the right is a area to hang clothes and shelf to store bags. There is a small kitchen area with a full size fridge, a stove, a sink, and cabinets with dishes, silverware, dish clothes, and a dish towel. There is a small coffee maker with coffee packs provided. There are two comfy beds, a bench, and a table with 4 chairs. The dresser had two drawers and there is a cable tv. There are is a sittling area with 2 chairs and an end table. The carpet and bedding was very clean. At about 9-10am, the room was cleaned.

The bacony had 3 plastic chairs and a little table. We had an angled view of the ocean and pool/lounge area and it was beautiful. I wake up early and at 6am the pool and grounds were being cleaned and an hour later, they were still cleaning.

At the ground floor of the North Building, there was an indoor/outdoor heated pool, a sauna, and a hot tub. In the next area, there was a large pool with a very shallow wading area for small kids. The next building over had a small lazy river and indoor pool. I don't know what all else was in that building since we didn't go in it.

Past the pool area, was a grassy area with lounge chairs and tables with yellow umbrellas. The ocean is just a few steps away and is soo nice for beach portraits.

We had a very nice stay at Dayton Hotel.

My family stayed at Dayton House in late May, early June of 2006. From having a string of bad experiences recently, we were pleasantly relieved that the Dayton House seemed to be as advertised - a family owned/family operated hotel that was clean, relatively quiet, and offered a wonderful oceanfront view with no surprises. We have a 3 year old son who really enjoyed his first trip to the ocean - the walk in pool was really a nice feature, as he did not need to fumble with wet steps when entering/leaving the pool area. All of the facilities seemed very well maintained and neat. Although the parking was a little scattered, it certainly wasn't as big of an issue to us as it seemed to be to some previous reviewers. We have an Isuzu Rodeo and were unable to use the parking garage in our building, so we had to park across the boulevard in the Dayton House parking areas which were well marked/well lit and seemed just fine to us. Very low clearance on the parking gararge - if you aren't in a car you will probably need to look at the alternative parking offered. Staff were friendly and attentive - just as we had counted on from the trip advisor reviews that helped send us there. Very close to several of the large shopping areas.
