“Nice way to spend the day”

Nice place to visit. Lots of different animals to see. We bought some feed and enjoyed hand feeding lots of the animals. This is a zoo in a natural outdoor setting not the Riverbank Zoo. It is neat ,however, to get a more close up view of the animals that you would not get at some zoos. I would recommend going in cooler weather because it makes for a much better visit.

“Mostly beautiful but......”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2013

When we first drove up to this zoo we were very happy with what we saw. We immediately saw farm animals in a very spacious area and it was very welcoming. When we entered the zoo, we were greeted by a very pleasant staff. You get to buy big bags of food to feed to the animals and our children were very excited about that. The layout of the zoo is very natural and beautiful. There are plenty of animals to feed, observe and even pet. We saw goats, sheep, pigs, many types of birds. There are also many beautiful areas to take pictures and just enjoy nature. This part of the zoo is very nice.

However, I wish that this zoo would just stick to the farm animals and other little critters that they house here. As you get further into the zoo, you see a few lions, bears and monkeys. These animals are all kept in cages. I haven't seen anything like this in years and didn't think that it was allowed in this day and age. How can you house a lion in a cage with people looking at it and expect the animal to be happy? Other zoos house these types of animals in large areas that mimic their natural habitat. Therefore, the animal can run if it wants or whatever and not have people so close to it and have nowhere to go. This really bothered me. I understand they may not have the funds to house these animals properly, therefore I think the animals should be sent to a place that can. This sadly overshadowed the other parts of the zoo that were very nice.

If you are the type that will be disturbed by seeing large, wild animals in cages I would not visit this zoo. I really hope in the future the owners will consider sending these larger animals to a place where they would live a happier life.

“Ineresting place, different collection of critters...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

Did not know what to expect, be prepared for a lot of walking.
Some really neat critters lots of variety.
Good place to go for a few hours of walking.
The only bad thing we noticed was some of the larger animals like the black bears and big cats had pretty small enclosures.
All the animals appeared to be in good health and willing to come up to the fence to get some food!
The place was a little dated, but over all we enjoyed it.

“Ignore the naysayers and enjoy!”

We recently went on a family trip to Wacatee zoo and enjoyed every minute of it. There are lots of animals and it was the most affordable thing we did while on vacation. We saw plenty of workers cleaning the pens and attending the animals. The rustic feel of the place just adds to the overall experience. It is sort of like a barnyard tour. As far as all the negative comments go...... well they are probably the sort of people who will complain about a hoghouse yet want heaping ham for breakfast.Coming from a farm background myself, I enjoyed it and realize how much work goes into animal care, and they have a ton of them on the premises. So to the Peta lovers, mind your own business and dont attend if its not your thing.
