“Great winter at Riptide”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

Great location close to activities and restaurants. Resort staff is geared to make your vacation special regardless of the weather. A small comfy resort continually renovating and renewing to serve us better. Canadian snowbirds survived the winter of 2014 here. Extra thought was given to guests during the many winter vortexes that hit the area. Snow on the beach was a novelty.
Sunning on our ocean front balcony was a treat. The activities director kept us informed and had many things for us to do. Not many resorts of this size have an activities director in the off season.

Our daughter is a freshman at Coastal Carolina University, so we’ve been to Myrtle Beach for several short trips during the last two years. This time we stayed for the week of our younger kids’ spring break and booked a week through RCI at the Riptide. Because we stayed during Passover, we had to have a unit with a kitchenette and when I checked in, I made a point of saying how important a working kitchen would be to our visit. I was a little nervous about the Riptide because of some of the reviews I read before our trip, but was so happy with our choice. Although our third floor unit was a little small for four (my teen-aged sons had to share a fold-out sofa in the living room and we all shared one bathroom), the bedroom opened to an ocean-front balcony and we listened to the waves all night. Each day, housekeeping came by with new bath towels, dish towels, and other supplies for the condo, and on Tuesday you can have your whole unit cleaned by signing up before 9:00 a.m. I sheepishly signed up at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning, which was no problem for the cheerful staff.

Because it was either too cold or raining, we only had one decent beach day, but there were so many other things to keep us busy, and there was only one morning too wet to take an early walk on the beach. The best thing about the Riptide is its location right on the shore. It is an older hotel but really well-maintained and very clean. We didn’t see any of the housekeeping issues others complained about in older reviews, and the entire staff was really friendly and good-natured. I was able to make several meals in the kitchenette, which had a four-burner stove and a small oven. The only extra kitchen tool we had to buy was a set of measuring spoons. The worst thing about this venue is the parking garage. Now, every hotel—at least the smaller ones—has a garage or lot across the street instead of onsite, but this garage has up and down ramps that are like tiny narrow tunnels, and especially if you have a larger car or van, it’s very disconcerting to go up and down those ramps. There are marks all over the walls of the ramps where some vehicles obviously didn’t clear the walls, but there was plenty of parking if you didn’t mind climbing to the top of that scary garage. One other note is, this is the farthest we’ve ever stayed from the pier and entertainment section of Myrtle Beach, but my boys didn’t seem to mind and we spent more time at Broadway on the Beach and Barefoot Landing than ever before, probably due to the weather. We really enjoyed our visit and would probably stay at the Riptide again.

Room Tip: Almost every room that I was aware of had a bedroom with an ocean view. We were in Building B, whic...

This was our first vaca in Myrtle Beach and booked through an RCI extra week offerl. We were pleased to have a 5th floor beach front unit with balcony. As with most beach vacations, weather makes a lot of difference and we only had 2 days of good weather. This is an older resort but our 3 room unit was newly renovated with fresh paint, carpeting, and furniture, and very clean. The stove was older but functional. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The internet was down for a couple of days so I used the activities center. They have a nice activities director and lots of interesting programs. For restaurants, we liked the Magnolia on 24th, Sea Captains House, Uncle John's, all within walking distance, and visited The Coastal Grande Mall, Boardwalk, Barefoot Landing, and Fox and Hounds Antique Mall.

My husband and I stayed at the Riptide Beach club on our 1st trip to Myrtle Beach. It was wonderful. It is where we fell in love with Myrtle Beach. We bought into a timeshare somewhere else and regretted it. We should have continued our experience with the Riptide. Very clean, very friendly folks, great location. beautiful view of the beach. Highly recommend it

We came here in Dec. through the RCI extra vacation as it was very inexpensive and the only property available on Myrtle Beach. We had read the reviews prior to arriving, so were a bit skeptical about the resort, but we were pleasantly surprised! It is not a gold crown timeshare or a 5 star but well worth the price!

We stayed in Unit C21 which was ocean front on the main level in the middle building. Our unit had the bunk beds when you walked in and the bedroom at the front where the balcony is. We had 2 flat screen TV's, new bedding, a new microwave and fairly new couches, so it seems the maintenance fees are being well used. The unit was clean and everything worked in the unit. The staff was friendly and always very helpful.

The wifi was down in our area for two days so we had to step out on the balcony to access the pool wifi, and it was fixed on Monday as the staff promised it would be. The parking is tight but we managed to get a spot each time we returned from an outing. Yes, the barbecues are a bit slow but we can live with that! The view of the ocean is the best and makes it all worthwhile.

My family stayed at Riptide the week of August 24th. We had a great vacation! What a great location, oceanfront, family oriented, clean, and well maintained. The resort is an older one, but very quaint, and felt like home. The office staff was so friendly and went out of their way. I would definitely stay here again. My family had the best vacation!!

My family of 4 stayed 5 days in this hotel and it was amazing! We felt like we were at home except we didn't have to do any work and we had the beach. The office staff offered the southern hospitality that we are used to, being from Tennessee by coming over to make sure we had everything we needed...what a personal touch! We felt very relaxed and comfortable. The view was breathless and even better than that was the friendliness of the all the staff! It was an unexpected value and great time..like a diamond in the rough so to speak. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone and can't wait to go back. This was by far the best vacation we have ever had. Thanks so much!

Room Tip: The view is better from the rooms higher up.
