We visited for a wedding in North Myrtle Beach (only about a 15 minute drive from the hotel). The room was beautiful and very clean. I agree with a previous reviewer, the pool and bar are awesome... and very reasonably priced. I was not crazy about the Waterscapes restaurant. But, there are so many other good seafood restaurants near the property. The hotel is less than 5 minutes away from the Broadway At the Beach, which has a lot of shops, bars, and restaurants. This hotel was AMAZING in comparison to the hotels where the rest of our family stayed. The staff was friendly and helpful.

We were attending a wedding at the Members Club. We arrived several hours ahead of check in time and we were allowed to use the private beach while we waited and they called us promptly to let us know the room was ready. We had a 2 bedroom suite, very nice and clean. All furniture and beds were comfortable. Water was hot and shower was refreshing, two shower heads! We had a lovely view of the marina. Staff was courteous and helpful and friendly.
The drive to beach is about 5 minutes and the walk to the beach is like a nature walk. There is a cabana with tables, chairs, food and music. Also a changing area with bathrooms and showers on the path to rinse off. Chairs and umbrellas were already set up. Just sit down and enjoy the view.
The only negative is the location of the elevator on our wing it is in the center of the building, but parking is not really close to the elevator.... we did not use the valet service, so that is probably why we found it annoying...
The wedding staff at the members club was also very friendly.
Overall, I great experience and we would stay again!

This was our first and last visit to Marina Inn. Our family tried four times to check in and was told our room was not ready. We were promised a phone call when we could check in, We received no phone call. I told Matt on my fourth call that we were not "wowed" by our experience thus far. Little did we know our trip would continue a downward spiral. We were told they had staffing problems. When we finally checked in at 6pm we were greeted by a handicapped room that we didn't request on a lower floor. The linens were sub par. Not the luxury items as promised by their site. Tiles were missing in the bathroom. Due to our late check in,we missed our dinner reservations on Friday. On Saturday our entire building had NO hot water. Front desk once again did not have any idea when water would be restored. After being sent to another room, we discovered they too did not have hot water. We ended up having to go outside into another building to take a hot shower. Dragging a family of four, our clothes and bathing essentials from room to room, building to building proved to the breaking point of our trip. Once again we missed our dinner reservation. When we talked to front desk staff they were friendly and gave us drink vouchers at their restaurants. Great idea if you were going to eat on site. Again,it was a family trip that felt more like a cheap motel than the four star experience that we were expecting. So much for a family weekend it felt more like a bad dream that didn't end for four days.

Room Tip: Inquire about services in working order.

Dear Donna S & Family

Thank you for taking the time to write the review of your stay at The Marina Inn at Grande Dunes.

I am very sorry your vacation got off to such a poor start with your waiting to get into your room. Even though the hotel was extremely busy over the holidays, which we anticipated, we had a very high percentage of staff call in sick with the flu over this period…which caused the slow turnover of clean rooms. This issue was remedied but, I am sorry to say, it took a few days. Also, new linen was ordered and has been received and put into inventory which I am sure will meet and exceed your expectations.

Lack of hot water was caused by a brown-out in the area which damaged our boiler. I am very sorry to report that it took until 6PM that evening for repairs to be completed. There are few things worse than taking a cold bath or shower and I am very sorry for your experience…I can completely understand your frustration. The issue has been fixed and we do not anticipate a reoccurrence.

I sincerely look forward to your return and I expect you will find your experience to be as advertized. Thanks again for writing to us.

I thought I was going to be impressed with this hotel after reading the reviews, however I have to say it didn't knock my socks off.Check in is really weird, doing it at individual desks, made it feel like you are buying a time share. Property is clean and very well manicured, Nick at the pool bar was AWESOME!!! Gave us a lot of ideas for fun things to do. The rooms are great, spacious bathroom and I believe every room has a balcony, the cleaning however wasn't the best, Day one, I could tell the bathroom floor hadn't been cleaned, nor the shower. There were used/empty shampoo bottles, and used wash cloth on shelf. Second day they failed to take the used coffee cups, however did give us more coffee, could still tell the floor hadn't been cleaned, wrapper on the floor. Those things don't really bother me (other than the coffee cups), but what you pay to stay here you expect a little higher service.

We live in Charleston, SC and were looking forward to a nice, quick Easter weekend getaway. We have stayed at this hotel 2 times prior and had wonderful experiences. This time was the polar opposite. For $350/night we expect a near-perfect to perfect experience. This stay ranks up there as one of the worst hotel experiences we've had (we are seasoned travelers, business and pleasure).

Check-In:
We arrived at the hotel @ 2:30 thinking check-in was 3:00. We were told check-in was actually 4PM. At 3PM our 6 year old wanted to see what room we would be in, so we took him up to show him. Housekeeping was finishing up cleaning, so we went back to the front desk where we were told even though the room had been cleaned it still needed to be 'inspected' and it would be just a few more minutes. They told us they had our phone number and would call us when it was ready. At 3:30 and 4:00 I went back to the front desk and was told the same thing both times, the room still needed to be inspected but the bellman could get our stuff out of our vehicle since it would be just another couple of minutes. At 4:30 the bellman saw that our belongings were still sitting on a cart in the lobby. He went to the front desk and told them how unacceptable that was. By 5:00 we were so fed up, we thought about going to stay elsewhere but my husband tracked down Amanda, director or activities, who promptly got our room key and 'inspected' the room herself and gave us our room key. Eventually, the young girl at the front desk admitted they were never able to get a hold of housekeeping to have the room 'inspected'. For our inconvenience, we were offered the free breakfast buffet, one of the worst breakfast buffets we've had at any hotel (we are seasoned travelers for work and pleasure). Total value $45. Come on Marina Inn, can't you do better than that???

Housekeeping Issues:
Once finally in the room, I found a dental floss pick in a utensil drawer in the kitchen and a sticky substance on the stove. The manager answered the phone when I called to have housekeeping come. Her reaction, 'well that is why it is important to have the room inspected.' We cooked dinner, yet housekeeping never replaced the kitchen towel or soap for the dishwasher. I propped up an empty pad of paper & pen in front of a clock thinking housekeeping would replace it...never happened.

Maintenance:
Rubber pieces on the bottom of the shower door hanging off.
Colored stickers to show hot/cold on the shower faucet peeling off.

Comfort:
Overall, a very nice room though my husband thought the bed was too firm.
This seems to have become a spring break destination for a lot of high school kids (not sure if parents were there too) so night time was particularly noisey. Even though we were on the 5th floor we could hear loud screaming/playing in the middle of the night.

Concierge:
Non-existent, front desk staff (2 people) acted as concierge.
We asked for family friendly restaurants and were given a list of 3 restaurants with addresses but no phone numbers (which would have been helpful). One on the list was out of business, another we visited was mostly seafood and grits, southern cuisine. No kids menu was posted. This is family friendly?? Why Fudrucker's, Chili's, Friendly's wasn't on the list is beyond me. They were just down the road from the seafood/grits restaurant but unfortunately, we didn't discover that until the day we left. We were starving and tired and ended up turning around and going back to Waterscapes and spending $150 on dinner for 2 adults and a 6 year old...ugh! Maybe, that's good strategy on the Marina Inn's side?

Bellman:
Bruce and the guy from Foxboro, MA (sorry forgot his name), were awesome!! Always willing to help and had good stories to share.

Easter Brunch:
Food was very good! My son loved the kid's buffet. Table is set low so kids can serve themselves. My husband got a $11 Mimosa...kinda pricey we thought.
Some of the staff seemed a little unkempt and seemed completely out of place (i.e. should be working in a Huddle House, not in an 'upscale' hotel).

I would like to say we'd be back, but unfortunately will likely seek somewhere else to stay in the future.

Room Tip: We love the 2 bedroom rooms, but the 1st floor room has a full wrap-around porch (not so with the 3r...

Greetings nillarilla.

First of all, thank you for taking the time to share your detailed Marina Inn experience on TripAdvisor. Secondly, we obviously fell short of your expectations in several areas of reference and for this we sincerely apologize. We are not going to make excuses for any of your encounters but will address these areas as to avoid future issues.

Our check-in time is at 4:00 pm and you should have been able to check in at that time. The inspection issue and the response received from our the front desk representative and housekeeping department is one that we will be sure to investigate and monitor moving forward. The week prior to and following Easter is spring break for families with children and during this time children and teenagers are seen quite frequently around the hotel, however, we do not allow ages 21 & under to register for accommodations. We have a full time concierge that was obviously not available when you were making your dining arrangements. Our intent is to never force people into our restaurant, WaterScapes so we should have been better prepared for your requests for kid friendly options. We will address the lack of information provided that led to your returning to WaterScapes out of frustration. We typically keep a close eye on room features that need maintenance attention so the shower issues that you encountered will be addressed.

We thank you for recognizing Andrea, our sales manager who was in charge of the Easter activities program during your stay and our bell team that includes Bruce. Our Easter Brunch is a popular annual dining event and we are pleased that your dining experience was a positive one.

We value the fact that you and your family are frequent visitors and are saddened that this experience has given cause to not return. As you can see from the many positive reviews regarding service and staff that your most recent occurrence was not a typical one. We can only ask that you give us another chance for a future stay. We can assure you that you will not encounter these same issues!

This hotel was very clean and the room and common areas were attractive and upscale. The room and bathroom was spacious and furnished with high-end finishes. The staff was helpful and friendly. The indoor pool was kind of small, but clean, and there were always towels available after swimming. The outdoor pool looked really nice as well, but we didn't get to swim in it due to the cold weather. My only complaints are that the beds weren't that comfortable and that our room never had enough towels. We had to specifically request more towels and washcloths a few times. We had four guests in our party and they usually only gave us 2-3 towels. It was quiet and not crowded. Overall, a very good place to stay and not too expensive for what you get.
