For fifteen years or so I have watched Sea Captains House grow as I made my yearly visit to this excellent restaurant. The excellent service, quality of food and atmosphere have only gotten better. We had yet another delicious lunch last week. Our service was excellent and you can't buy the view anywhere.

We were looking for a good lunch place that wasn't too expensive and had good seafood. We found this one on Trip Advisor and we're happy we did. Many of the seafood places were only open for dinner, and the buffets were both expensive and had poor reviews on TA.

Sea Captain's house offers a nice lunch with a variety of burgers, seafood, and even a lunch-sized 5 oz filet mignon (for $16). Most of the lunch options were reasonably priced, in the $8 - $12 range. We had the crab cakes (which were good, though small), crab dip (good), fried platter (I didn't try it, but it seemed to be well-liked), and a burger. The burger was over-cooked (requested medium-rare, came out at least medium-well), but they quickly cooked up another one and it came out perfect. They also started us with some of the best hush puppies any of us had had.

We did not try any desserts - they had a small selection of about six good-sounding desserts, but all at the normal restaurant prices of about $6.

The place has an upscale feel, with a nice waiting lobby (complete with big arm chairs and giant chess/checker sets) with a great view of the water from seemingly any room. They allowed very relaxed dress for lunch, but had a minor dress code for dinner (no sleeveless shirts for example).

It appeared to have a semi-outdoor area (sort of a screened-in patio) that could be rented out for large parties or receptions (it had it's own bar area), but I can't say for sure.

All-in-all, a pleasant experience at a reasonable price with good food.

We discovered this wonderful restaurant about 30 years ago and we look forward to a couple of evenings everytime we come to the Grand Strand area. The food, service, ambiance, views, and choices are always tops in our book. The price is very reasonable. They do not advertise nor will you find them in coupon books, but they are always busy. That within itself speaks volumes. As an old friend use to say,"Don't miss it even if you can."

We had the mahi mahi & salmon specials as well as the seafood platter. All were prepared really well and scrumptious! The wait was a short one on a spring break evening-about 15 min. We were seated at a window overlooking the ocean -an enjoyable setting. The service was just right-the server checked in often to take care of our needs but was not "hovering". We loved the whole experience.

My mom and I had dinner here on April 3, 2010. This was our 3rd time. We started with shrimp cocktail and then shared the grilled pork chops with seasonal chutney. Generous portion for 2. Pork chops cooked perfect. Baked potato piping hot. Iced tea brewed to southern perfection. The service was above average for a tourist town and so was the quality of the meal. I would most definitely order this entire meal again. You should try the Sea Captain's House especially if the quality of a chain restaurant is not to your standards. This was a fantastic meal.
