Wow, picked this site from a brochure. We were so delighted with the wonderful food and drink selections. They serve local seafood and a crab bisque for which they are famous. Very nice wait staff. Plan to try their breakfast buffet.

All the more ordinary, bland eggs, bland everything actually..... good thing they had fresh fruit bar.
Staff is very good, at least this is why I did not put only one on the overall rating.

Our recent experience at the Sea Captain's House gave me the impression that we were dining in two different restaurants; a terrific lunch house and a very average dinner restaurant.

Seriously, when we had lunch, the service, food, and hospitality were excellent. Several days later, we visited for dinner (5 pm) and the experience was totally opposite.

The Sea Captain's House is a Myrtle Beach tradition. For many years, the food set the highest standard of low country Carolina cuisine and hospitality. Now, it appears those standards are slipping.

Our lunch was served by experienced staff who handled a full house with crisp professionalism. We had shrimp salad, oyster cocktails, she crab soup, and the lunch special of braised scallops on roasted artichokes. It was first rate, worthy of a five star rating.

Then, we went for dinner several days later. Hostesses seemed disinterested, our server, while not unprofessional, acted a bit goofy in his explanation of the menu and generally seemed uninterested in setting a high standard. We had shrimp and grits (average due to a heavy shrimp saute butter and oil base), and a surprisingly small portion of stuffed flounder (poor). The flounder (what little there was) was overwhelmingly dry and the crab meat stuffing had the consistency of something prepared much earlier and reheated. We expected much better from this restaurants' reputation, menu pricing (above average), and our previous lunch experience.

So, there you have a tale of two restaurants...Sea Captain's Lunch (5 star) and Sea Captain's dinner (2 star). Split the difference...3 stars overall.

Just had lunch at Sea Captain's House after recommendations over the years; sorry we didn't get there sooner. The oyster/shrimp po' boy was delicious, with or without the accompanying sauce remoulade, as were the sweet potato fries. The pasta salad was also delish, and not your standard fare; the pasta wasn't in the usual mayo, but some type of creamy mix which included parsley and tasted terrific. The price was reasonable for the serving size, too.

You won't have to worry about parking, either--there's a really large parking lot across the street, in addition to the one right in front of the restaurant. The building may not look that big on the outside, but the inside is amazingly large, with several "tiers," and we were fortunate to be on the lowest tier off the beach. Try Sea Captain's House--I don't think you'll be disappointed!

We went to the Sea Captains House for their buffet breakfast and it was worth the $9.95 price. They had a great buffet plus an omelet station. They had fresh orange juice and then a great fresh fruit bar. We ate plenty as it was all very good. It was a good thing we went there the last day of our trip or we would have gained an extra 5 pounds while there. We would highly recommend the buffet breakfast.
