“Hotel is nice, condos are outdated”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

We stayed in the condos at Kingston Plantation. The service was good. The place was quiet but the condo itself was outdated. It was like staying in my Grandma Erma's house. The carpet was dirty and the place needed a makeover. Overall for the money it was a good deal as the price was right. If price is all your concerned about its your place. If you want the 21st century....go elsewhere.

Having been Wyndham timeshare owners, this was our first stay at Kingston Plantation, and the nearby Wyndham resorts pale in comparison to this resort. The Splash Park alone, with its many water-related activities, made it extra-special. Even my non-water loving husband enjoyed the two water slides. We stayed in a two-bedroom condo about a six to seven minute walk to the pools and beach. Next time, we would stay closer to those two areas because the walk became rather long when you're walking your five- and seven-year-old grandchildren to the beach, and you're loaded down with all the paraphernalia that goes along with it. The rooms were clean and modern, and we especially enjoyed our lake view from the large screened-in porch. On our second night there were two dogs barking continuously, causing us to call security. They were over to our court in minutes tracking down the offending dogs, but when they checked on the occupants of the condo (who were out at the time), said they were owners, not renters, and the only thing they could do would be to move us to another unit. Thankfully, the people returned shortly thereafter and the barking ceased, but we were very pleased with the response time from security. This is a wonderful family resort, and we hope to return in the future.

Room Tip: Staying closer to the beach and pools is a little more convenient.

This is our second stay at this property. First visit in July2006 we were given a single bed for 4 people. Front desk told us they had nothing else even though we had a reservation, lines were extremely long took over an hour to check in before we found out about single bed so we left did not stay. Lots of construction going on at that time. Very disappointed with the age, upkeep and maintenance of property.
Unit had indoor/outdoor green type carpets, new kitchen and bath remodel but very dirty. Fold out couch bed had stains on the bedding and mattress which was broken down extremely uncomfortable. Only one set of towels and no linens or bedding for couch. Bed did not have clean sheets.Furniture was stained and dirty. Contacted housekeeping for linens, towels etc but never got them. Housekeeping only once per stay.l
Buffet at the Embassy Suites was very good but lines were so long it took half hour to get breakfast then no where to sit. Entire place was short staffed and full for the week.

Kingston Plantation for those who don't know is a bunch of properties in one. Sort of like a neighborhood. Some places are on the beach, others arent. This property has a security guard at the front 24 hrs a day. We went during bike week and there was a designated area for the bikes which is great. I am writing specifically about the Margate. The Margate is beautiful spot and definitely worth the money. Our room was actually an apartment. 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, kitchen, dining and livingroom. It was REALLY nice. The kitchen was upgraded, appliances, countertops. The furniture was up to date, there was plenty of space for lots of things. Our balcony looked out onto the pool and the beach. It was so beautiful. I recommend the Margate to anyone who wants a great vacation experience. It wansn't close to the strip but close to lots of restaurants and gas stations.

Booked this hotel the day of arrival after bad experience upon arrival at another hotel. Able to secure a good rate despite the time of reservation. Front desk staff was courteous. Only complaint I had was upon arrival in room only one of the double beds had a comforter on it and only one set of bath towels. When called down to housekeeping they came up and said that the comforter was out being cleaned and handed us a blanket and when tried to spread it out there were a couple stains on it, then called back and front desk said they would send a comforter over from those used at Embassy Suites tower. After this the stay was pretty good. Great location, great view of ocean and pool from balcony. Room service was prompt. Would definetely stay at this resort group again.

Another great stay on this property is concluding tonight. This time, and for the second time we are staying at the Royal Palms condos in Kingston Plantation.. It was only my wife and i this trip so we were looking for smaller accommodations this time. The Royal Palms was the trick. This property has many 2-4 bedroom condos to rent. What we did not know is that they also have regular sized hotel rooms. All the rooms have ocean views and all are with king size beds. At 219 a night plus tax, it was a bargain for such a nice location. Especially on Memorial day weekend. When you stay at the Kingston Plantation, you have access to the whole resort and properties including the Hilton hotel with its restaurants and pools as well as the Embassy suites. The pool at the Palms is very nice but is shaded by the building in the afternoon. This is very nice for kids and fold wanting to swim out of the hot sun. If you are a sun worshiper, just take the very short walk next door to the Hilton and its 3 pools and cabana. They are all in the sun all day. There are quite a few lounge chairs around its lush tropical area. We found a spot away form the hustle bustle behind the cabana on a deck next to the beach. We could lounge with the ocean in site but not have to deal with the sand or renting chairs at the beach. Waiters came by to take our order if we wanted anything and there were umbrellas if you want shade. The cabana bar serves all the normal and some abnormal tropical drinks. Pricing seemed a little high but hey its the beach and your at the Hilton. We ate breakfast at the Hilton s Breakfast buffet. It was pricey at 15.00 per but the food was very good and the selection large. They custom cook omelettes and waffles as well as eggs if you do not want them scrambled. there is juice and fruit, all part of the buffet. The restaurant overlooks the ocean and pool naturally. There are complimentary towels at the pool so no need to bring your own. There was a fantastic live band playing this weekend and many people danced at the pool. We had lunch at the cabana one day. We had burgers and fried potato chips. The burger was good but the chips were fantastic. They were fried crisp and served with a onion dip. The next day we ate their barbecue cookout lunch special. 16.00 per person. They had a choice of a quarter rack of ribs or a half BBQ chicken. We selected one of each. They also had sides of grilled corn on the cob, coleslaw and potato salad. The chicken was pretty good. Te ribs were cooked well nut the portion was small and the dry rub they used was not to my liking. I would have preferred no rub or basted with a sauce.
They served a sauce in the side that was just OK, nothing special. The potato salad was awful in my opinion. It was made with way too much mustard. The coleslaw was good. It was not too sweet and not too tangy. I thought the price paid was too high for the quality of the meal.
Too sum up, we find this resort to be the best in North Myrtle. There is beach activity, tennis, their own golf course, as well as restaurants. You are still just a very short drive from Barefoot Landing, and only 20 minutes from Calabash. I would highly recommend this resort for couples and family s.

Room Tip: Royal Palms has single king rooms to rent as well as larger condos.

I visited the Kingston Plantation for a conference and stayed at the Brighton. My family and I stay here every summer but have never stayed in these condos. I was very impressed. We stayed in a 2 bedroom ocean view condo. It was very spacious and clean. The only issue was the light in the master bathroom was out. The breakfast over at the Embassy Suites needs beefing up. I would like to see egg whites on the menu.
