“Collectors Cafe is a MUST!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

We booked a table for New Year's Eve, for 9:00 p.m. When we arrived we had a drink at the bar, and were amazed at the eclectic décor. It was fantastic.

When they took us through to the restaurant, we were seated at a bar right at the kitchen, so that we were watching the chefs work. It was almost like a Chef's Table.

But then the food. I don't think there are enough superlatives to describe the food. We started out sharing an appetizer of Warm Goat Cheese, Roasted Garlic, Sweet Peppers and Tomatoes with Bruschetta. This was 'to die for'.

After that, the server brought freshly baked warm bread, accompanied by a dish with olive oil, a crab & tomato dip (we think); and a sweet pepper mix. That was also beautiful.

Walter ordered the Bouillabaisse, which looked amazing, and he said it was. I ordered the Hot Cajun Spiced Penne Pasta with Chicken, which was also amazing. As Walter said, 'the flavors were so striking and so complemented each other'.

Then Walter ordered the Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake. I had a taste, and I have never fallen in love with a dessert before. You will see on the photo, the presentation was spectacular, and the taste matched!

We ordered a latte and a cappuccino, and even the coffee was fantastic.

We had a chat with Jon Reimer, one of the Executive Chefs, whose photo is below. A really cool guy, and he was very appreciative of our comments.

I must say, we ate way too much, but we will definitely be recommending the Collectors Café and Gallery to everyone and anyone.

THIS IS THE BEST MEAL WE HAVE HAD IN YEARS!!!!

Thank you, Jon Reimer and James Molnar. What a fantastic find!

“Celebrated December Birthdays with a Great Dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2013

We spent a weekend in Myrtle Beach, SC, to celebrate birthdays for my wife and myself and the wife of the couple that traveled with us. My friend's wife selected this restaurant, and I could not be more pleased with her choice. Three of us had the "Grilled Filet of Beef Tenderloin with Caramelized Onion Brandy Cream Sauce, Parmesan Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and Balsamic Grilled Vegetables", and one had the "Grilled Salmon over Sautéed Wild Mushrooms, Roasted Garlic Cauliflower Puree and Baby Spinach, Olive, Golden Raisin, Tomato Salad and Toasted Almonds". The salmon was found to be excellent, and there was a unanimous decision that the filet may have been the best any of us had ever had. There was a good desert menu; the Crème Brulee and Cheesecake were delicious. Can't wait to come back again. This is a restaurant that should not be missed.

“excellent food & atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013

The exterior of the restaurant gives no indication of the type of restaurant inside. Rather than the expected coffee shop, it is a relaxed white tablecloth restaurant with good seafood choices. Other creative items are included on the large menu. The restaurant is divided into several rooms so that you always feel that you have a cozy table. There are a couple of bars also. The walls are covered with art work and sculptures stand in the corners. Friendly staff. Great experience.

“Anticipation better than the experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

My husband and I had dined here with delight a number of years ago whenever we came to MB but stopped coming when prices went north of $30 per entrée. When we saw that most entrees had dropped back into the $20s, we decided to try again.
We love the atmosphere here - cozy, dark, with colorful artwork on the walls to brighten things up, tables spaced well. Service was also very good; efficient if not overly friendly.
We sat at their small bar for a glass of wine before sitting at our reserved table. No happy hour here, and many columns on the other side of the counter gave a claustrophobic feel.
We had a nice corner table in the main dining room. It started well with crusty fresh bread and dipping oil plus two spreads. I had remembered the scallop cakes from previous years and was anxious to try them again. Instead of being comprised, as before, of chopped scallops and looking sort of like a crab cake (small disks, lightly browned), this was an amorphous oval (2 actually) of whole scallops and chopped tomatoes and peppers, sort of held together by a light, eggy batter, all swimming in a thin cream sauce. It was disappointing and sort of bland.
My husband ordered the sliced duck breast in a morello cherry sauce. He ordered it medium rare, and when it came out truly rare, he didn't want to wait to send it back for longer cooking. There was a lot of sauce - overpowering. The mashed potatoes served with it were tasteless, and the spinach overcooked.
The decaf cappuccinos at the end of the meal were quite nice, but probably next year we won't be back.

“Relaxing Wonderful Meal!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2013

Took my wife to Collector's Cafe for her birthday. Great choice. Greated immediately and seated in a fun and exlectic dining room - you would never guess the restaurant was so much fun being in a strip mall. Ordered a hummus appetizer with grilled shrimp - flavorful and made you want to eat more - it was good with the pita chips, however, even better with the warm bread served at the table. I had a spice dusted grouper with black beans and rice - phenomenal!!! Fish was cooked perfectly and the spicyness of the beans and rice matched very well. My wife had the Bouillebase - the flavors were intense yet did not overwhelm the freshness of the fish and other seafood. We were so full at the end but did try the Key Lime Pie for dessert, also very good. Service was impeccable and overall would recommend to everyone to try!!
