My husband has always wanted to do the Nascar Racing Experience but living in Iowa there is not many opportunities to do this so we had planned a vacation to Myrtle Beach (one of our favorite places) and found out they started to do them at this local track. He did the Double driving time which is normally around $900 but at Myrtle Beach it was only $650 so we decided to go for it. Everything was planned on the internet and we were given confirmation numbers, etc. the morning it was set for it was raining and we never got a call to see if it was cancelled or anything, we called the 800 number and they had no clue what was going on so we drove to the track and there was not a sole there so we called the customer service line back and told them about it and they rescheduled us for the next day. The next day we arrived and he was the only driver scheduled so it was a great one on one experience. I went into the training area with him and watched a instructional video and then he went straight to driving. They have a crew chief that works directly with you on the ground and a spotter that can talk to you on the radio about shifting, etc. They take pictures, keep track of your times and since they were getting ready for a local race that night we got to talk to alot of local racers that were there.
This is the 3 rd year in a row we have been to Myrtle Beach and every time we drove past the track it looked horrible and looked like it was going to fall down. Now they have a new owner and new track manager. Everything is being fixed up and painted, they are adding new bleachers to try to get some Nascar races back to the track. The best part was that they invited our whole family to the track that night for the race, my husband went (the kids and i went to the dixie stampede pirate show) and he got a seat in the vip area with all the free food and drinks he wanted. He had the time of his life and we ended up wishing we had gone with him!!
It was a great experience except for them not contacting us about the postponement and we would certainly do it again. It says a 3 hour experience but it only took an hour, they said if it would have been at a larger track you have to spend most of the time waiting for the other people to get done. Although it may have been nice to have other drivers on the track at the same time? Anyways, it was a great time and kudos to the track for coming back to life!
