“Love It!”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Stayed there twice in the two bdrm unit. Love it. Everything was great! The last time I stayed I have a great view of the pool. It was a bit chilly so didn't really get in the ocean. Nice just to walk around.

This is a great place, especially for families. The Villas are spacious and have two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Nice kitchen and a dining room. The villas are next to the Marriott grand dunes hotel and you can use all the facilities of the hotel if you do not want to cook your own food. The villas are located at the beach and local attraction and restaurant are just a few minutes away by car.

My wife and I visited in late October. It was still warm enough to sit by the pool in bathing suit, yet brisk on the beach. Crowds were light yet the restaurants were comfortably full. The site has excellent views of the ocean from nearly everywhere except lowest 3 floors. The rooms were spacious and quiet. We entertained 2 couples, the weather changed but we were able to use the indoor pool and spa which is larger than most. An excellent trip.

Room Tip: Best view is floor 5 and higher.

We visited the OceanWatch Villas over the long holiday weekend in January. I traveled there with my husband, 11 year old and our service dog. We reserved our room using the Marriott.com site, taking advantage of an online winter break discount. We did not take advantage of the timeshare preview deal.

We stayed on the 12th floor of the Maple tower. This is one of three complexes farthest from the ocean...but don't let that concern you...everything is close by. We could see the ocean easily from our balcony, and had a great view of the adjacent outdoor pools.

My review is based in part on my comparisons to Kingston Plantation, where we have visited annually for the past 10 years. I decided to try something new this year, in part because I felt that Kingston was beginning to show it's age.

There is no shortage of pools...I lost count after 5. And even during the cold month of January, we were able to enjoy a few of the outdoor heated pools. (I'm not aware of an outdoor pool at Kingston that is warm enough to enjoy during the winter). There is a nifty kid pool area that features a water slide. We didn't use it, but many kids did.

The indoor pool/fitness center is located beside the Maple tower, and we enjoyed the fact that it was open late, and was accessible using your room key card. (This is not the case at Kingston, where the pool and fitness center closes early on Sunday evenings). The fitness center at Kingston is superior, but that was not an issue for us...all the equipment we needed is available at Marriott. The indoor pool at Kingston is larger, again not an issue for us during the off season.

We had a two bedroom villa, and while the master bedroom was on the small side, the guest room was large, and featured two queen size beds. The king size bed was hard for my taste. The bathroom configuration was clever, but not my favorite. The bath and sink/vanity was adjacent to the bed, with no door separating the two. The bath was HUGE...but lacked jets. The shower and the toilet where both in a water closet (the same water closet).

The lighting in the shower/water closet was some sort of energy conserving bulb...which took forever to light up sufficiently. No reading in that water closet, for sure.

The TV in the bedroom was a little small (by our standards today), but the TV in the den was large. We appreciated having DirecTV and being able to watch the Australian Open. That was a nice surpise.

The staff was Superb. We received a welcome call one week before our trip, and the staff person made sure to note that we were celebrating a birthday. A balloon and a card (signed by no fewer than 20 staff members) arrived on Sunday. While it was clear that the caller was interested in getting us to take a timeshare tour, she was not pushy at all. We also received a call while we where there checking up on us. Very nice touch.

Parking was plentiful (we used the parking deck), and luggage carts were plentiful (never the case at Kingston condos). In addition, the owners at Kingston don't like renters...it's painfully clear. Not the case at a timeshare villa....everyone is a visitor.

The outdoor areas were awesome. A sand volleyball court is adjacent to a lighted basketball court.

The location is also great. Nearby outlet shopping along with a nice selection of restaurants (Cheeseburger in Paradise, Carrabba's)

I don't know how my opinion would change during the busy summer season....that remains to be seen. But as for a winter get away...this one gets my #1 vote now.

Room Tip: Don't bring beach towels...they are provided. There's a nifty place to store your outdoor s...

I used my bonus week under Interval International and it turned to be amazing destination. We stayed last Jan 11-17 even its a low season in Myrtle Beach which is not so crowded …. They gave a 2 bedroom villa with ocean front, gave a dinner for two and a $25 money because they missed to call us when we requested a wake up call. everybody in the front desk arevery friendly.

Room Tip: travel during low season

My wife and I stayed with friends at the Grand Dunes Villas for a long weekend December 7-9. Our friends had timeshare points to use and they chose the Grand Dunes. Being from South Carolina and traveling to the Grand Strand several times per year we have stayed at many hotels and condos in the past. This place pretty much was one of the nicest by far. The grounds here are spectacular. Awesome indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs, water slide, basketball court, shuffle board, outdoor grilling, outdoor fire places, playground fort for kids and pool bar for the big kids. This place has it all when it come to outdoor fun right on the beach. The size of the property can be a little overwhelming but you get a lot of bang for your buck. Pools were heated to 85F but it was a little too cold and rainy to use very much when we were there. ( I want to go back during Spring or Summer.) Onsite café and Pizza hut was all the dinning the offer. If they had a nice bar / restaurant people wouldn’t have to leave the resort.

We had a 2 bedroom unit which was great. Kitchen was a tad outdated but the bedrooms, baths and living room were great. Flat screens T.V’s in both bedrooms as well as living room. Washer and dryer too. Nice large deck overlooking pool and ocean made for a great place for morning coffee even though it was a little cold out.

Had the wonderful opportunity to join some family members at their timeshare over the New Year's Holiday. The family had two units. Each unit had two bedrooms with full kitchen and living /dining area, plus two bathrooms. Our balcony overlooked the beautiful pools, as well as the ocean, so we had the best of both worlds. The family enjoyed walks on the beach, swimming, using the hot tub, the fitness center and to top it off the shuffleboard courts. Plenty of activity to keep the younger ones busy but allowing relaxation time for the more mature folks. Common areas of the Villas were decorated beautifully for the holidays, which added to the charm of the facility. Definitely a nice little get away with family.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a room with a good view of the Ocean. It will be worth it!
