This was our second stay here. A lot of rules for the hotel were not enforced: rafts for the Lazy River were used in the pool, 15 minute parking for loading and unloading was used as overnight parking, towels and clothing were hung from balconies, very unsightly, elevator was out off and on for two days, felt very unsafe riding elevator, no golf information or pro available, and no HOT water. Loved the location, room was clean but needed updating. Sleep timer on TV did not work. Tonya, our housekeeper for the 3rd floor was wonderful, very attentive to our requests. Oceanfront view was spectacular. Will not stay here again.

Room Tip: Don't choose a room that is more than 2 floors, only has 1 elevator.

Dear Guest,

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us for the most part. We apologize for the inconvenience of our elevator. Since a lightning strike, the elevator goes into a "safety mode" and shuts down. Unfortunately the only way it can be turned back on is by the elevator company Otis, and it sometimes can take them a bit of time to come out. Since your stay, the elevator has been updated and is now fully functional. We are having a new elevator installed after labor day to prevent an inconvenience like this from happening again. Our 15 minute lot is for loading and unloading only, however we allow handicapped parking for overnight as long as they have a handicapped hanger. We are also still in the process of updating our televisions and by 2014 we should have all flat screens in the rooms.

Once again we are sorry, that your stay was not all that it could have been. We hope you visit us again in the future and see many of the changes that we are making!

Stayed at the Sandcastle at the Pavilion from July 22nd to the 26th. Very courteous front service, and the cleaning staff was attentive. Parking was great. Great location close to the main attractions. Walking to Plyler Park was a breeze. Lazy pool and main pool were great. The cash-only bar by pool was a plus. The problem was the elevator broke down every day. Jay, the young front service personnel, told us it was a hardware problem they were finally going to get fixed. Wi-Fi service is okay, but streaming movies with Roku will not run at all due to the poor Wi-Fi signal. Flat-screen TV a plus. Beds were comfortable as was the shower. The balcony was nice but must watch out for the Palmetto bugs. Safe with lock and key, microwave and easy storing fridge a plus. The A/C was easy to control. My two young girls loved the lazy pool. In all, a great stay for the family.

Room Tip: Check the website for specials like we did. When making online reservation we requested a room betw...

Dear Guest,

We are glad to see that you enjoyed your vacation with us! Our bar normally accepts credit/debit cards, however the lightning strike close to your stay (the same one that caused the issues with the Wi-Fi and the elevator) has caused the credit machine to not work as well. Since your stay, most of the Wi-Fi routers have been replaced and are functional, and a new elevator is being installed after labor day.

We look forward to being a part of your vacation memories in the future as well! Safe travels!

We were there for our honeymoon. The view was fine. We decided to go out on the town for a little when we returned back to the hotel and turned the lights on there was a scatter of cockroaches crawling on the counters and stove!!! It was absolutely disgusting!!! We called to front desk and maintenance camr up to spray! There were so many of them. We decided to leave and find another hotel... We were only there for maybe 4 hours!!! The manager gave us nothing but problems!!! Absolute ignorant!!! Along with cockroaches the elevater was broken we had to carry our groceries up 4 flights of stairs and our refrigerator was broken! Never ever ever will I recommend this place to anyone!!!

My husband, myself and our 2 year old daughter really enjoyed our stay here. Room was clean and view from our balcony was beautiful. Pools and lazy river were great. Bar at the pool was a plus too. No continental breakfast but restaurant in hotel, Sole, had a very good breakfast buffet with drink for only $7 and 2 year old ate for free. I can't wait to go back to myrtle beach and we will definitely be staying at the Sandcastle.

I only have 2 positive comments....first the location was awesome! Second I'm thankful we got 40% off our room when we booked it last November when my husband saw an ad online. The rooms are so dated! The elevator was out of service when we checked in and several other times during our weeklong stay leaving us to take the stairs which had a disgusting smell. The air in the hallway was hot, stale and stinky! The appliances, especially the stove were so outdated. The toilet paper and tissues were the cheapest brand they could possibly supply...actually went out and bought our own. Hot water was scarce. Will not be back. We have stayed at nicer Super 8's!

We stayed here as a gift from my Mother-in-law for our HONEYMOON....we were thankful because it was a gift but none of us had any idea it would like this. It had old televisions, bad channels, the elevator only worked half of the time and we were on the 6th floor, it was hot, and it had a bit of an odor to it. My husband and I said "NEVER AGAIN". The pictures are not the truth because it looks nothing like it, while were there I heard more complaints than anything. I was very shocked.

This was my first time at this hotel, I will say the good first, it is in a great location and the pools are good. The hotel is outdated and bad need of new beds!! my bed was so hard and only had a sheet to cover up with other than the bedspread and we all know about that!!, carpet was dirty. Parking is a big problem too and they were not very nice about it. The biggest problem was them allowing too many people in a room, which overcrowds the place, and it was full of college students and teens (not spring break time) When I checked in so did about 30 young adults, the manager told me they were only renting about 4 rooms WHAT?!! the police were there a couple times.

Room Tip: book early, this hotel is popular with teens due to location

Chris B, Front Office Manager at Sandcastle Oceanfront Resort at the Pavilion, responded to this reviewResponded July 20, 2013

Dear Guest,

We are sorry your stay was not all that it could have been.
Our bedspreads are washed and cleaned at every checkout. If a guest requires more blankets or anything that will make them more comfortable, we encourage them to contact the front desk so the necessary actions can be taken.

We do have a strict maximum occupancy requirement for all of our rooms ranging from a maximum of 4-6 people, regardless of age. For student rooms, every person in the room must register with a photo i.d. to prevent crowding in the rooms. The rooms you saw checking in was a group of 24 students, checking into 4 suites (that can accommodate 6 each). If guests ever get too loud or disturbing, you should always contact the front desk so our on site security officer can handle the situation. Our security officers wear the same colors as the Myrtle Beach Police, and can sometimes be confused for one another. According to our records, we did not have the police on property during your stay. However a guest can always contact the police over some matter unrelated to the hotel.

During check-in, we provide our guests with a map of our entire property, outline the key areas such as our parking, and our pools. If a guest ever has trouble finding the parking areas, our front desk staff and security will assist with finding parking.

Once again we are sorry your stay was not as enjoyable as we all hoped. We hope you will try us again in the near future.
