We decided that we wanted to take our RV and just get out of town for a little over a week. I emailed Ocean lakes. After not hearing back I was literally in the process of calling another campground when I received a return email. I called (superbowl Sunday) and spoke to a very pleasant young lady and reserved a full hookup pull through spot at Ocean Lakes. We arrived and the security guard gave us our materials and we went to our spot in section "I". The pull through was on a concrete slab, which is really cool at the beach. We hooked up the cable to watch the big game and I headed out for pizza. The campground is located near lots of restaurants.

We didn't really need it but, the bath houses are probably the cleanest and nicest in the business. The laundry mat has a ton of washers and dryers. In the very few times that we had any contact with them we found the staff to be pleasant.

Ocean Lakes is, technically speaking, one of the best campgrounds in the country. But, some of the campers/RV'ers were a bit stand-offish. Who cares I guess. Nevertheless, Ocean Lakes is the best of the best in large campgrounds.

The first time we stayed in O.L. was May 2007 and we loved it! We went back the next year in late May/1st week of June. We rented a home through vrbo.com and split it with another family. It was great to have a full 4BR house with 2 decks, grill, outdoor shower and a 30 second golf cart ride to the ocean. Even if we could walk to the ocean, we had so much stuff to bring that the cart was great-plus the kids love it (age4-10). I see reviews of people complaining about it being crowded...I think because we go before school gets out, we avoid the big crowds. The first year we stayed in a house on Magnolia Lake and were able to fish right off of our deck. The few lakes throughout the "campground" are great for fishing, especially for the kids. I don' really like calling it a campground because it is not my idea of a campground-but it does have campsites, but I think there are more homes. When we went to the pool it was never too crowded and there are tons of things to do in the Myrtle Beach area. When we go late in May, we had perfect weather both times...not a drop of rain and it's not scorching hot and no threat of hurricanes. It may be different in prime summer weeks....but in May or early June it was a fun family vacation!

Ocean Lakes has so much to offer everyone. We have been camping there for a number of years. Our son is now in college & still returns home to go to Ocean Lakes with us in the summers. There are many activities for all ages, the bathhouses are clean. We feel totally safe when at Ocean Lakes...security at the gates and also checking the grounds throughout the day and night. We were there during a bad storm. Before the storm had completely left, the staff was out checking on the campers, even taking off their shoes, rolling up their pants' legs to get to those of us in the flooded areas. Ocean Lakes is the only campground in the SC beach area we have found that will allow you to bring your own golfcart, with proof of insurance, of course. They even have decorated golfcart parades throughout the year. There is a grocery store, a laundry, a grill and an ice cream shop on site. We never have to get in our vehicles again once we get to Ocean Lakes, unless we want to. The website allows you to pick your campsite online, telling you the size of the site, special features of the site and distance from the beach also. The thing we like least of all at Ocean Lakes is the amount of golfcarts on the roads. But we try to understand, because we love bringing ours with us. We also are not crazy about those neighbors that put their dogs outside, barking at everybody and everything that passes by. Ocean Lakes is not too far from shopping areas, restaurants, golf, shows, etc.

Stayed with 5 other families for 1st time and had read the prior reviews about the crazy golf carts and security issues but assumed it was isolated but the reviews were correct. The place is way too crowded and there is way too many golf carts especially at night. They said kids can't drive the carts but they are driving all day and night. Never saw security stop any kids. It was not safe to ride bikes or walk around at night due to the carts. The police were there twice for disturbances. People also reserve beach location with chairs/tents the night before. Never seen anything like that. I see why people like it as the place is very nice, lots to do, you never need to leave but the crazy golf carts ruin the place. We only stayed cause it was highly rated but would not stay again unless the change the golf cart policy. The place is a mini city. Will stay at MBTP next time since they ban golf carts.

This was our second trip to Ocean Lakes. It was as great as we remembered. We were 45 second walk from the beach. Last year, we were further away, but it was still nice to be able to walk to the beach without crossing a highway! I have read other reviews where reviewers found it noisy and overcrowded. In our case, it was not noisy, but it was full most of the time. However, both times we camped after Labour Day so that probably helps. No problem getting chairs at the pool. Great service at this campground. We took the opportunity to go to two football games at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, as well as a day trip to Charleston (2 hours away). We have been to lots of other campgrounds, and you cannot beat this one in our opinion.
