My wife and I recently stayed for seven days at Sea Watch Resort. This was our 3rd visit to this hotel and we have seen a definite downward trend. i have listed both pros and cons of our experience.
Good location. Central to both North & South Myrtle Beach attractions
Plenty of pools, hot tubs, & lazy rivers Good temps in hot tubs & pools
Good beach access
Good road out of town, (highway #22)
Mistakes in reservations (Promised Deluxe King with washer/dryer) . This was never explained by management. Settled for two double beds because there were no King deluxe rooms available. Washer & dryer are Important when you don't take enough clothes for entire stay. (Ref: confirmation #233348)
Uncomfortable beds - Room 1209. Very soft, very old matresses. First night was not a restful experience. Contacted management next a.m. and was offered same room on a different floor. However, the bedding was not any better. I was offered a room, (#711) in the South Tower which was a regular king bed. The bedding was acceptable but the front room was noticeably smaller. Needing a good nights sleep we moved which was an effort that took 2 hours of our vacation time.
Uncomfortable furniture - The couch in the living room area was extremely uncomfortable. We had to use our bed pillows to sit as not to sink to a point where it was difficult to get up from sitting position. Simply cheap furniture. The same couch was used in both rooms.
Malfunctioning equipment - Our microwave oven woke us up very early one morning with a series of continuous beeps. The beeping noise could not be stopped. This not only woke us up but also our neighbor who thought it was a fire alarm. I had to unplug the unit which was accessed through an overhead cabinet. I doubt this will be fixed as I found a note inside the microwave which explained the same problem from a previous tennant.
Obvious neglect - Rusting very noticeable on refrigerator, major surface damage to bathtub. Very poor lighting in bathroom, (needs new fourescent bulbs).
Unreliable maid service - Did not get service for two days. I called later the second day, I got a quick response but she did not leave any towels and had to place second call to front desk.
Conclusion - Vacations are for fun and relaxation without any surprises. I will be shopping around next time for better quality and I won't mind paying a little more to get it. I am going to stay away from rental condos as the owners will not maintain their property to reasonable standards. Preventative maintenance is obviously not a part of the their operating policy. There are a ton of places to stay on the Grand Strand. If you choose to stay at Sea Watch, I recommend that you verify you reservation details prior to arrival. Also, inspect your room before checking in as you have the right for refusal. It is also advisable to have Internet access to check similar hotels for immediate availability if you need another place to stay.
