“Awesome "Resort"!!”
Reviewed October 10, 2008

I stayed here for 3 nights and absolutely loved it. The grounds are kept very nice, pools are great, customer service is amazing, and the rooms were incredible.

We had an ocean front room with a balcony, and having the balcony was so nice. The bed was EXTREMEMLY comfortable, and with it being our anniversary they brought us free wine and chocolate covered strawberries for desert.

They always have fresh made lemonade downstairs, which is so good. We will most definitely be staying here again.

Just returned from two week vacation here. Absolutely loved everything about this hotel.
Rooms - Spacious and clean. No balcony but that was not a problem for us - had a fantastic view of pool and sea (room 410)-could lay in bed with sliding door open and look out at the ocean each morning! Abundance of clean towels daily!!!
Staff - All exceptionally friendly and helpful, especially the concierge desk.
Pool - this area was very nice with no problem getting a sunbed each day! Could do with a few more umbrelllas though! Pool towels provided.
Bar - this is a very comfortable area with large sofas and great relaxing decor! A pleasure to meet in for pre-dinner drinks. Only negative is that the bar shuts at 12pm, even when busy with conference delegates, they still called time at 11.30 which seemd a bit daft!!
Restaurant - didn't have a meal or breakfast in the hotel but they do take-away coffee and breakfast items if you prefer!! We went for breakfast at K&W cafeteria which was a short walk from hotel on H17. Absolutely great value and excellent choice of food - the locals seem to use it a lot. Very smart decor inside. A standard breakfast of two eggs, sausage, hash browns cost $2.95!!! STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
Location - wonderful. On the beachfront in the nicer area of myrtle beach! Hotel was midway between Broadway on the Beach and Barefoot Landing which are great areas for nightlife and restaurants. Cost approximately $20 either way! However there is a tram-style bus that takes you to Broadway on the Beach for $1 per person (about a 15-20min journey - great value) - bus stop is 5 -10 min walk from hotel and arrives on the half hour as regular as clockwork!!! Well worth catching...
Nitelife - Great restaurants were Greg Normans Australian Grill at Barefoot Landing - not cheap but nice for a special night out! and Landrys fish restaurant at Broadway on the Beach - superb food. Live music - Must try House of Blues at Barefoot - regular band in one half and concerts held on other side! Duelling pianos at Broadway also a good nite out! Also some nice local bars and restaurants within walking distance.
Golf - loads of courses to choose from - personal favourite was the Grande Dunes course just near the hotel.
Wonderful holiday - will certainly return to myrtle beach and this hotel....... (PS - got a great deal from letsgo2golf.com from uk for booking flights, hotel, golf and car)

Marriott service at its best. Allowed an early check in at noon, fantastic pools - clean, warm, one with a slide the kids love, bar and pool side dining courteous and quick. Had lovely breakfast buffet overlooking the ocean. The downsides: these are basic hotel rooms. For such a nice resort, a surprise to have such a small room. Also, the pool does not overlook the beach, hedge blocks view, maybe hurricane barrier but you do have to walk the short path to the beach. Beach is nice, clean and family friendly. There is a great family pool with the Marriott Villa's next door, but Marriott Hotel guests not allowed to use it. You do have to drive to food if not dining Marriott, but Myrtle Beach strip only about 3 miles up the road. Overall, love the Marriott service but this hotel would only be comfortable for a couple of days, otherwise, too many condo options available near by and you'll want the space.

We stayed here for free from Tuesday, Aug 26th to Sunday, Aug 31st, using our Marriott points. We arrived around 2 p.m. and were immediately checked in. We wanted a king room but the only rooms available were rooms with two double beds; therefore, we were given an ocean view room with double beds. The rooms and property are well maintained and very clean. Our room had a huge window and a mini fridge. The two pools were the perfect temperature and there is a water slide that we as adults even found fun. There are plenty of pool side chairs and a bar area with friendly bartenders and great drinks. In fact, everyone who worked there was always very friendly. The ocean and beach were nice too and relatively private. Although we didn't use its services, there was also a child care place on site that seemed to have a lot of fun and different activities for kids to take part in, without their parents. We saw them playing games, doing crafts, and even using metal detectors on the beach to find "treasure."
Now for the compliants. The pool side service was spotty. One of the waitresses forgot our drinks and then tried to blame it on another waitress. She was never very friendly, often looking sour until she had to flash a fake smile. Sometimes she'd disappear with our drink order for long periods of time. On Saturday, she was serving as the bartender and she seemed much better at that. There are some cabana chairs with umbrellas near the hammocks that you can reserve. If you don't reserve them, you can't sit in them, even if every single one of them is empty. Apparently you have to pay to sit in these chairs (except on the weekend). That made us feel like we were really being nickeled and dimed. And during the week, all but two of the chairs were usually empty. We wished that at least one of the two pools was for adults only as we got tired of hyper kids being everywhere and having to be leery of swimming too close to diapered babies. The waterslides, which empties into its own, very small pool has two lifeguards that don't actually do anything. The area at the bottom of th slide is so small that people need to immediately exit the pool after going down the slide but frequently, we found that parents were using that area as a baby pool which was very dangerous when adults would go down the slide, often times nearly wiping out little kids who played right at the bottom of the slide. Lastly, there is nothing within walking distance of this resort, except for other resorts and timeshares. Therefore, to go anywhere you have to drive. We were really hoping to be near some bars or a boardwalk but there isn't anything like that, except for the hotel's bars, for miles. However, if you are looking for a place where you can just sit and relax by the pools or the ocean, this is a good place for that. The area is pretty quiet, clean, and the service was usually very good.

Just completed a 5 day stay with family and was quite pleased in general. It is a very nice hotel/resort with some shortcomings. The most major that has been mentioned previously is lack of balcony throughout--only a very very few beachfront rooms do have them (the timeshare villas next door seem to all have them. As an aside timeshare people have a desk in lobby but didnt seem to actively bother people). The lack of balcony is a huge negative with a family as rooms are not large- standard hotel rooms basically with average bathroom. We had a nice view from the 15th floor window we had but not the same without a balcony. Other negatives --almost everything is an extra fee which is a bit crazy given the price per night-- such as internet-10$/day, self parking-10$/day-a real joke, valet 18$/day,pool chairs -30$/day is crazy!!!, 70$ for 3 days is nuts too ,some kids activities are extra as well and not well publicized anyway except in front of the kids room. The place could use an extra restaurant and certainly a starbucks or take out coffee/cereal/pastry place is needed. Pluses-- very nice pool complex with water slide on the side, decent sized indoor pool --this is where they show dive in movies-this would be much more pleasant if done in one of the outside pools with a large screen as many other hotels do, water/fruit available early am by pool when returning from beach walksaround 730am, lemonade in lobby, quick elevators, beautiful beach is the major plus of course! The location is about 15 minute drive to broadway on the beach and 25 minutes to murrells inlet area. Gym is fair, wife liked spa but quite overpriced (nothing new there), staff in hotel in general friendly. All in all happy and would return- just know that intern.et+parking+chairs on beach is another50$ plus/day

My fiancé and I stayed at the Marriott Resort at Grande Dunes from June 13 to June 19, 2008. We had a good time in Myrtle Beach itself but the resort was lacking in many ways.
The Good:
The lobby was outstanding, great service (fast and eager to please). The valet parking was well worth the $18 per day charge, we never had to wait for our car. The pool was large with two swimming areas, a great little waterslide, and an indoor pool that showed movies at night. Staff members were friendly with quick service. The landscaping was lovely, with plenty of beach chairs around the pool, and a nice area with hammocks (great for nighttime reading). Great area outside the lobby for relaxing in the shade. The beds were fantastic. We had a king size bed with pillow top mattresses and plenty of lush pillows and nice robes to use during your stay. The rooms were clean and housekeeping was top notch. Good room safe. Great concierge service (very knowledgeable).
The Bad:
Besides the beds, the rooms were terribly outdated. It looked more like a 1980's Holiday Inn. The mini fridges were certainly mini. There was no balcony only a large sliding glass door with bars in front of it (prison anyone?). No double vanity sinks in the bathrooms. The water pressure in the shower was mediocre at best. The one chair in the room felt like it was made of plastic. There was a desk but no table for eating. No smoking available in any room or at pool side. One smoking area on the whole resort (if you're a nonsmoker you will love this :). The movies in the room were great newer movies, however to rent them it $19.99 per movie. While the service by the pool is good, it is VERY expensive and they want you to charge it to your room so that you don't realize how much you're spending (ie. $6 for a beer, $14 for a turkey sandwich). I advise everyone staying here to go out and enjoy the many wonderful restaurants around the myrtle beach area rather than eating here. The food is terrible and highly overpriced. We called to order a pizza from roomservice late one night and they were out, which led us to conclude Tostinos. I recommend Ulitmate California Pizza (so good and cheaper). The drinks are okay, but again way overpriced. The indoor pool water is about 90 degrees and the hot tubs are almost unbearable (way too hot and leave bruises). Only one access to the beach which is way overcrowded and the beach chairs (again) way overpriced. Timeshare people harass you to the point of restraining orders. The resort itself is not close to anything typical myrtle beach travelers want to do. I used to live in myrtle and I had to drive 30 minutes to get to the best restaurants in the area (murrells inlet). I knew this going in, but others may not. Highly recommend Divine's Fish House, and Bovine's for steak, both in Murrells Inlet. Also travel a bit north of the resort on buisness 17 and take a right at the first redlight (burgerking) and on the left there a little local joint called Bimini's amazing stemmed oysters, calabash seafood with bands in the evening, fun atmosphere and well priced.
Overall: This was an okay resort. I can see why people like it. However, for the price, you can find much better resorts with condo type rooms instead of a typical hotel room, with much better amenities, better food, and better pricing for food and beverage. This is a "glamorous" resort at first glance but nothing spectacular to write home about.

I stayed for 2 nights in June at the Marriott Grande Dunes. It was my first time in Myrtle Beach as I usually go to the Jersey shore or Ocean City Maryland for a beach vacation. I heard about the Hard Rock Park opening and I wanted to check it out. So, I asked for the top 10 hotels in Myrtle Beach and this hotel was ranked in the list. Even though this hotel is a little off the beaten path of the main roadway, it was excellent! Being in North Myrtle Beach, it was less congested and much more quiet than other parts of Myrtle Beach. If you like overall peace and quiet with scenic views, this is the place for you. It's a safe and clean environment with lots of amenities. I would recommend an oceanfront room if possible, as it looks out directly upon the pool and into the beach/ocean. It's nice to be able to sit out on the balcony or to be able to just leave the balcony door open and hear the waves. I would reccommend this hotel for business travelers, as well as adults and seniors. If/when I return to Myrtle Beach, I will be returning to the Marriott Grande Dunes.

  • Liked — It offered a lot of modern amenities in a nice section of Myrtle Beach.
