Camelot by the Sea, Oceana Resorts
Ranked #71 of 209 Hotels in Myrtle Beach
Reviewed August 20, 2013

We stayed at Camelot for 5 nights. After check in we went up to our room and unpacked. We were very impressed by how the room was decorated and how nice the kitchen was. We were very happy with the accommodations until we laid on the bed. We could not believe that a hotel this nice would have such a firm mattress. It was literately like laying on plywood. Later in the week we found out that this hotel actually sells the rooms as condos and the owners can remodel them how they please. The hotel staff was very understanding of the bed and supplied us with thick blankets we could use to cushion the bed so we could sleep. I would be very hesitant if you end up with room1609 unless you are a fan of super firm mattresses. Other than the bed, the hotel was great! The parking garage is attached to the hotel so you don't have to walk across the busy street or through the rain. There are 2 pools, 2 hot tubs, 2 kiddy pools and a lazy river! Even on rainy days the pool area was large enough to accommodate everyone. The lawn area was a very nice get away. It was separated from the pool but not quite on the beach so you avoid both loud noise from the pool and the sand from the beach. Great location if you are interested in walking to the boardwalk. We could not have asked more from our stay at Camelot but having an uncomfortable place to sleep made it a little difficult to enjoy our week at the beach.

had never been to Myrtle beach - this hotel was in a prime location. we got in late so at first i was disappointed there was no restaurant on property but soon realized this was not an issue. rooms were very nice - having a refrigerator was very convenient. ocean view was just perfect. one suggestion, while it might not seem like much to some, the fitness center not opening until 9AM was a bit of an inconvenience. yes there are people who like to work out early - even on vacation. would recommend the Camelot - very nice.

Just returned from 5 days and 4 nights of our first time to Myrtle Beach and enjoyed our stay very much. Our room was on the 8th floor and it was great to be able to park right outside our door which was very convenient for coming and going. The view was wonderful! Not too high but still felt private sitting on our oceanfront deck. We felt fortunate that since we had never been to Myrtle Beach, the location of the hotel was within walking distance of many places to eat, the boardwalk and amusements. Since we hardly spent any time in our room, some of the things which could have been better, we could overlook, such as rug could have been cleaner and the internet only connected if we sat out on our deck. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our entire stay.

Stayed at this location for 5 days and 4 nights on our first trip to Myrtle Beach. Upon arriving we realized that the topper on our car would not allow us to park in the hotel garage--we parked across the strewn instead. All rooms are oceanfront--which is awesome--and the hotel is very close to the boardwalk, sky wheel, restaurants and shopping. Our room was not clean. I used the kitchen towel to wipe down the wall near one of the beds--footprints? fingerprints? either way, it was not something you could easily overlook if you
were REALLY doing a thorough job of cleaning. The white coverlet on the bed was discolored with a yellow stain--yep, we thought the same thing you just did--so we folded it up and put it in the closet. The fridge was dented in multiple places and had rust all along the edges. The toilet seat had a large melted spot from a curling iron(?) on it and the bathroom tile grout was soiled. The studio has 2 full beds and a pullout sofa. Should have gotten a larger room because with 2 teenage boys and 2 parents it was very tight! There were no sheets for the pullout bed so we had to call housekeeping for those. The elevators are SLOW and humid--several times one of the two closest to our room was out of order. The pools are ok--nothing to brag about. The lobby is -- eh. For the price of the room I expect it to be clean and I expect the grounds to be
better maintained. Is it the worst hotel in Myrtle Beach--certainly not--but it's a long shot from the best too.

We loved Lulu's cafe across the street for breakfast and the River City Cafe for burgers--within a block! Take the time to hit Murrell's Inlet for dinner--Drunken Jacks or the Dead Dog Saloon :)

We just came back from a 4 night stay. I was a bit weary after reading some reviews, but our room appeared newly renovated. We stayed on 8th floor, one bedroom, everything was nice, carpet a bit run down. As others have mentioned small kitchen area, and no internet service but I brought my hot spot. Loved being able to park right outside our door. Staff was great, loved the location to everything, pools, maid service , and took advance of free breakfast from cafe across the street, discount rewards on other restaurants, free mini golf, and free water park. We are planning another trip next year!

Room Tip: Used their website to book , didn't use a cheaper second party

We arrived in a torrential downpour, but fortunately, the parking area to register was covered on the 1st floor of the parking garage. They were having computer issues so it took a while to get registered as they were doing all of the paperwork by hand. During the storm, water started running into the lobby under the front door. After we registered and walked back to the car, water was gushing up out of the floor drains in the parking garage and flooding the area around them. We finally parked on the next to the top floor of the garage since it was still pouring buckets and when we started to head to our room, due to a bad design flaw in the connection of the parking garage to the actual hotel itself, there was no way to get to the walkway to the rooms without having a waterfall of rain soak you. We waited for a half hour at the elevator breezeway before we could get to the room.

Walking in the room, the smell was damp and musty. The lampshade in the bedroom was cracked, the kitchen was dirty, the bathroom had hairs in the tub and the sofa in the living area had stains on it. I called the front desk and they were very pleasant and apologized and moved us to a room on the 14th floor immediately. The room was cleaner and had a newer sofa. You could tell it had been updated recently, unlike the first room we were assigned to. The only complaint with this room was the electronic door lock, it malfunctioned several times and required a maintenance man to come and reset it with a small computer gizmo, which they did quickly each time and with a pleasant attitude.

Other than those issues, the pools and hottubs were great and there was a bar with food and drinks right by the pool. The grassy areas between the hotel and dunes were nice, with brick pavers, some grass and lounge chairs. A great alternative for those who didn't want to hit the sand. The beach access was good with two wooden boardwalks, one near the center of the hotel and one near the left side facing the ocean. The elevators were clean and fairly fast with televisions in them playing local weather and national news.

LuLu's Diner is right across the street and open 24 hours for those late night cravings. There is also a small shop on the end of the hotel where you can buy drinks, batteries, sundries, etc. in a flash. There is a nice, albeit small, gym available and laundry facilities as well.

This hotel needs to ramp up the time frame of updating their rooms and make sure the cleaning staff are all on the same page of music. I would consider staying again, but I would check out the room they were putting me in before I ever unpacked the car!

I was lied to from the moment I made reservations about the cost of the room (not my fault the guy didn't add the 2 extra people , because I plainly told him 4 people and 1 child ). So , he also told me if we were not happy with the room in any way we would be upgraded at no extra cost . That was also a lie . So , we accepted the upgrade charge and tried to make the best of it . The next room they gave us was on the 19th or penthouse floor . The carpet was filthy as was the fold out sofa . The baseboards were dirty in every room . And the so-called free wi-fi did not exist on the 19th floor . I complained about the wi-fi from day 1 of our 4 night stay and they finally installed a router in our room late the 3rd day . I could write a couple more paragraphs but I'll just say if you book this one after reading my review , its your own fault !
