My wife and I thought the resort was clean, friendly and made for a great weekend. The breakfast was better than expected and ALL of the employees were very nice. The oceanfront rooms are spacious and have a wonderful view. The parking is tight but no real issues. The pools were nice and the childrens playground is a nice added touch. I would go back, it is a great value.

We stayed in an E suite on the 15th floor from December 30-January 2 with 2 adults and 3 kids. The room itself was spacious enough with 2 double beds when you enter the room with a TV & safe. The bathroom has two entrances, one from the room with the double bed and one through the kitchen. There is a living room with a table & chairs, a murphy bed and two armchairs. This room was oceanview, not oceanfront, but the view was very good. I chose it as it is slightly larger than the other rooms. The kitchen has all the things you might need.

I chose this resort as I felt it might be more quiet than some of the others with an indoor waterpark. And the time that we were there it was. So that made it much more enjoyable. Not sure if it was packed if I would like it as much.

Yes the parking lot is a tight turn, but if you are an experienced driver I really didn't think it was an issue.

The breakfast that was included was really much better than I had expected. The hot buffet you are supposed to just go up once, but really I don't think you should need to go up more than that. There are plenty of cold items to choose from as well. Really quite good.

The indoor pool area had a small lazy river (a circle that goes around a jacuzzi tub in the middle). There was also a small child's splash area and a larger pool. The 10th floor outdoor pool and jacuzzi was heated warm enough (almost hot) to swim outside in 50 degree temperature. The other beachfront pool was not heated, but the jacuzzi was. There was a small swingset and place to throw bean bags outside.

The beach in front of the hotel was quite nice, large and pretty.

Yes the property is a bit older, but it was still clean and in decent shape.

The only thing I did not care for was we booked a new year's eve special which was to include champagne and they did not have that available. I think if you advertise a special you really should stick with it. Also I asked for a later check out on the day we were leaving and they were good enough to give me a noon check out, however we went to the pool and went back to our room at 11:15 to get ready to leave and we were automatically locked out of our room. That was not fun having to walk wet and cold to get a new key to get in. I've never been at a place that locks you out of your room at 11 on the dot.

We are so happy to hear that overall your stay with us was enjoyable and we hope that you are having a Happy New Year so far. We would like to apologize for a few things though.

We apologize sincerely for the inconveniences that you encountered with your room keys after receiving a late check out. Unfortunately, when we program the keys on the date of arrival they are programmed to deactivate on the day of departure at 11:00 AM, as this is normal check out time. Unless they were reprogrammed to a later time on the date of your departure then they will expire promptly at 11:00 AM and we hate that this caused you some inconvenience. This is something that has been set into our key encoder and perhaps we will address this situation more fully.

We would also like to apologize about the New Year’s Eve Champagne package that we did not fulfill and we hope that will be able to have another opportunity to serve you and your family. It is our goal to provide our guests with the very best service possible from every department. We are extremely sorry that these issues occurred and may have hindered parts of your vacation.

we have stayed at the monterey bay several times in the past but this time there were an abundance of people in the pool who were wearing their clothes and in some cases shoes. the children were left unattended and in one case i saw a baby sleeping in a stroller without a grown up in sight. the children were unruly and undisciplined and were breaking the pool facility rules about diving and splashing without concern for other guests and children in the pool, hot tub and lazy river.all in all the pool atmosphere put a damper on our stay, the hotel security and front desk was sympathetic to our concerns but stated that this same group of people come every year and "overtake the hotel and act as if they can do whatever they want". it was not a pleasant experience and i think we'll be staying elsewhere next year.

Room Tip: oceanview rooms at an angle were nice

We understand the events of that particular week were frustrating and a little out of the norm but we do have a large group of people who have been staying with us every Christmas for years now. We do try to make sure that we are as accommodating as possible to all who wish to stay with us.

We do try to get a handle on rowdy situations in the hotel itself and the pool areas as well, but sometimes there just aren’t enough of us to control all situations that occur. Perhaps, next year we should look into implementing a pool attendant of some sort for the busy holiday season. Again, we apologize for the lack of supervision on those people’s families.

As far as the guests getting into the pools fully clothed, that is their custom and we can not violate their choices, as this is against the law. However, we have researched this particular topic thoroughly with the proper agencies, i.e. DHEC, and we would like to ensure you that with the chemicals that are used in the pools, it is still completely sanitary.

We apologize for the inconveniences you encountered during your stay at the Monterey Bay Suites. It is our goal to provide our guests with the very best service possible. We hope we have another opportunity to show you the hospitality and service you and your family deserves. We are always open to our customer’s ideas and suggestions.

We were in town for an All-Star football game the second weekend in December and booked here on the advice of some friends. We reserved the Angle Oceanview King Suite with a sofa bed and a murphy bed because we were traveling with two teenagers. When we arrived our room was ready and the front desk staff was very friendly, but most importantly, very efficient. Check-In took less than five minutes. He told me everything before I could even ask the questions. When we arrived in our room, it was clean and exactly what we asked for. I could tell that the property is older, however, the room was clean. We had a small kitchen in our room that included everything we would need to cook if we decided to. The oceanview was great, we normally stay oceanfront, but since it was the winter, we didn't stress it however, there was plenty of room for four people on the balcony and we could definitely see the ocean.

The only concerns I had were:

The parking deck is not for inexperienced drivers in a large SUV or Truck, you have to do a little maneuvering to park, however for vehicles over 6'6" there is parking at the bottom.

The position of the sleeper sofa and the murphy wall bed make it a little difficult to have both of the out at the same time without moving the furniture around. We were in town with my parents who stayed there as well, so one of my teens stayed in their room on their murphy bed, which they said was very comfortable.

The bathroom does not have a vanity area that can be closed off from the toilet/shower area so four people getting ready to leave was a little tricky when someone was in the bathroom.

The housekeeping staff was very accommodating and friendly and the front desk staff had us checked in/out within five minutes and were extremely knowledgeable about the accommodations. The morning breakfast was good, however the hot breakfast is not a buffet, so get some of everything on your first trip because you cannot go back.

We would definitely stay here again when we visit Myrtle Beach, SC.

Room Tip: If you choose an oceanview room request a high floor to get a better view.

My family of six took a trip to Myrtle Beach back in October and stayed at the Monterey because it is the only hotel in Myrtle beach that offered free breakfast for every guest that books with the hotel. My husband and I have four children, and even though we would have kitchen in the suites, this would help out considerably with food expenses.Not to mention, I would NOT have to cook every meal. I was still a bit skeptical, because of some of the reviews but we decided to try it out. We are so glad that we did!!

You can only receive the hot items on the buffet once, but you can go back as many times as you like for the cold items!! I just cooked a couple of slices of bacon every morning before we went to breakfast and we were all set. The hotel is oceanfront, and my children and my husband sat on the balcony every night and listened to the waves. my oldest son took advantage of the Ping Pong table, and my youngest practically lived in the lazy river!! They even had an indoor/outdoor pool and playground. I was also able to still exercise every morning in the cardio room.
I will admit the parking was a struggle, but we got used to it!! Food Lion, Pizza Hut, and other restaurants are right up the street. Walmart is only a ten minute drive away!! my children have bugged us every day about returning and we are thinking of going back in April!! I would definitely stay here again.

Had a DIRTY room on the 9th floor and was PROMISED 30% OFF NEXT PERIOD with additional internet comps!!!! DO NOT FALL FOR THIS TRAP!!! Just called and they do NOT want to give the extra 30% off!!!! WHAT GIVES????

I apologize that you feel as if you were mislead but when we do our discounts they are not meant as an additional 30% discount off of our already discounted rate. The way it works is that all of our discounts are based on availability and as we sell more rooms these discounts get cut off over time. The 30% discount that you received is a guarantee that if our discounts have already been cut off then you are going to still receive that 30% discounted rate. We also have monthly rates that are already deeply discounted and we cannot do an additional 30% discount off of those rates either. Basically, you are getting a 30% discount off of our rack rate which is the normal price for the rooms any time that you were to call and make a reservation.

Again, I apologize if you felt that you were mislead when we tried to make it up to you for the inconveniences that you encountered when you previously stayed with us.

Stayed there Nov. 18-22 and was very pleased with the experience. Selected a king-suite oceanfront at the suggestion of the reservation staff. Beds are comfortable; breakfast enjoyable and location unbeatable. Will stay here again on our visit next year. M.P. North Carolina
