We just returned from 4 nights (2 adults & a 2 year old) staying in the Chelsea House condos. We were very happy with the rooms. We had a 2BR condo with a kitchen. The rooms are not sleek by any means, but everything was upgraded (granite counters, tile in bathroom, etc.). The carpet did look worn/replaced. The decor was beachy and cheery. It definitely feels like an older building, but that was fine with us. There was a musty odor at first but that went away quickly after we opened up the doors/windows. One of the bathrooms did not look 110% clean on check-in. I am a bit of a clean freak and went through the unit with Lysol, wiped everything down for my own comfort, and then felt okay about things, but I do this everywhere. I did not see any bugs at all inside (a previous reviewer had seen them, but I did not). Staff were courteous and friendly and upgrades to the exterior lighting were being made while we were there. It was well-maintained. We didn't mind being across the street from the ocean--the private pool and quiet were perfect for us.

We were in an end unit on a back building, away from the street noise but RIGHT next to--like 10 feet from--a shack next door. So, our view from the living room deck was awful. But, from the master bedroom we had a nice deck overlooking the pool, which was like an oasis. The pool was quiet, rarely populated with kids, and very relaxing. Water was freezing so we didn't get in, but it was nice to look at and sit next to. We enjoyed being able to park right outside the door to our condo and not have to worry about a parking garage and elevator. I could not believe how quiet the whole Chelsea complex was.

The location is unbeatable--Broadway on the Beach is a straight shot out of the parking lot. We ate the breakfast buffet at Sea Captain twice--the food was fine but the view of the ocean brought us back. We also walked over to Bennett's Calabash Seafood for an early buffet and that was fine. We walked to CA Ultimate Pizza, which was great pizza. There was a Rite Aid and a discount liquor store (amazing prices) in walking distance also. Our favorite dinner was Capriz at Broadway at the Beach.

Our week was a little chilly, and I was irritated that all the glass had been removed from the "indoor" pool area. Our 2 year old who loves to swim could not--it was just too cold/windy to keep her in the water long. We went for a couple of quick swims and then had to get her dressed. So, one of the main reasons we chose the hotel--the ability to swim no matter what the weather, was absent. We had to find other things to do to keep her busy, when we had counted on being able to swim a lot. The pools were busy, but not over-crowded, and people in the pools looked cold!

Overall, I would recommend this place for families and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for an end unit, but not room 214 unless you want to look at a slum from your living room. One s...

We spent 5 days here in early April. We were in the smallest unit which has a bedroom and a Murphy bed in the livingroom, which has the seaside balcony. We slept on the Murphy bed, with the sliders to the balcony open at night. We could hear the surf and then see the sun rise over the water in the morning. The ocean is just out the door! We were on the second floor, right above the lazy river. The place has pools galore and lots of things for kids to do, so we are planning a trip back with our grandchildren in a couple of years. The condo was clean, had a small kitchen with basic cooking equipment, but no dishwasher. The maids were friendly and timely with their visits. The guys used the golf director and she helped them book a couple of tee times in the area. Our only complaint was the place was over run with high school baseball teams - an Easter week baseball camp in town - and some partied all night in the room next door and ran up and down the floor walkway our last night there. We got no sleep at all that night. Obviously the Caribbean doesn't enforce a quiet time, so one wonders what Spring break with college kids is like! The place has much larger units in the other building, so you can get 2 and 3 bedrooms over there. There is a laundry room for guests over there, also.

We thoroughly enjoy our family 'retreats' at this family-friendly beach resort. It's a great mix of golfers, families and seniors who seem to come back year after year, like ourselves. The Cayman condos are well-equipped and spacious. The Dominican Tower is quite comfortable as well, but we've gotten a bit spoiled with the Cayman. There's just nothing more peaceful and calming to me than being oceanfront and experiencing the sights and sounds of the ocean day and night. For our family, we prefer to visit off-season when it's much quieter. The Caribbean Resort is two thumbs up for us!

our family visited this hotel in September 2011 and had an awesome experience. There were 11 of us, including two four year olds and a six year old so we stayed in the Cayman Tower in a four bedroom condo. There was plenty of room for all of us and the rooms were all immaculate. The pools were clean and housekeeping was never an issue while we stayed there. We enjoyed this hotel so much that we decided to stay an extra night. However, we were moved to the Chelsea House, which is directly across the street from the Cayman Tower, since there were no available rooms for our extra night's stay. The staff moved all of our things across the street for us while we went to the beach and we had no issues with that whatsoever. HOWEVER, I do not recommend staying in the Chelsea House rooms. There were bugs and it was not nearly as 'kept' as the Cayman Tower rooms were. The Chelsea House rooms are not updated, are not spacious, and are nowhere near the quality of the Cayman Tower. We would not stay there again for any reason. We advised the front desk of the issues we were having with the Chelsea House and they sent over an exterminator but, due to someone in our group having health issues, they couldn't spray for it. They did give us a discount on our room, though. We plan on staying at the Caribbean Resort next year and I can't wait for our family to go back there. The kids loved all of the pools and the slide and the adults enjoyed the bar/restaurant near the lazy river.

Room Tip: stay at the Cayman Towers

Stayed there a few days to celebrate Valentine's Day. Just great! Other reviews say the Dominican Tower was old and outdated, but we found it to be just fine. Looked like new furniture, bedspreads and kitchen and bath update. Our main concern is always cleanliness - a bit old doesn't bother us, but IT HAS TO BE CLEAN! AND YOU COULD EAT OFF THE FLOOR! We were ocean front during the beginning of golf season. Although, not too busy to bother us. Colder weather - no swiming - unless you wanted, but we noticed the hot tub pool was used quite often. We stayed here because we so loved the Sea Captain's House for the best seafood outside of New England. They also own the Caribbean resort hotels and condos. Small space, but for two it was perfect. We are coming back mid-April with our 2 grandkids 11 and 7 and sill stay in the Cayman for a bigger room. Walk the 3.1 mile new boardwalk (mostly cement) but it is great!!! Breakfast buffet is discounted for those staying at the resort and is fabulous and fresh and huge with an ocean view. Would recommend this place to anyone. A few drawbacks (although they didn't keep us from returning) were as follows: smoke lingers on the patios where smoking is allowed, but from other rooms, we couldn't sit out on the balconey when folks were lighting up. I think they should not allow smoking anywhere in the hotels. Also, the woman at the desk that they sent you to after registering was very pushy and took many "no's" before she got the hint that we did NOT want to take a tour for time-share. It pushed me to be rude and I hate doing that.
Bring coffee filters! and there was a noise the night it was windy which blew through a vent that was quite loud. Otherwise we slept well. The HVAC outside was a bit loud and annoying too. However we ignored the cons because we loved the place! Will review again after we return from our next stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room above the first 7 or 8 stories to avoid pool noise and HVAC noise. EAT AT SEA CAPTAI...
