“Best ferris wheel ever”
Reviewed June 21, 2011

My family and I are avid vacationers frequently traveling to the beach in the summer. We had heard that dad's rode free on the skywheel on father's day and decided that was they day we were going. My family, consisting of 3 adults and a two year old all went down to the boardwalk around 330pm. There was only a short line (it would have moved faster but the attendants were having trouble ringing up the discounts). We ended up paying for only 2 on us...children 3 and under are free! It is a little pricey but where can you ride on an air conditioned ferris wheel?!? The all glass enclosure allowed for a spectacular view and if you have a good camera awesome pictures. I would definitely recommend riding this at least once.we would like to go back and ride at night when it's lit up too.

“Great Idea-Poorly Executed”
Reviewed June 20, 2011

My Husband, 7yr old stepson and I went to Myrtle Beach on Fathers Day & decided to ride the new Skywheel Ferris Wheel. We go to MB couple times per year as we live just couple hours away and this was first time being back since the wheel opened in Feb. It is huge, heated and cooled enclosures so we were excited. When we arrived at about 10a we were told by an associate that it opens at 11. We were going on a Helicopter ride at 1 so we had time to kill so we played on the beach.

At 11, we went back, ticket window was open so we purchased our tickets. $12 per adult $9 for kids and happen to be free on Fathers day for Dads. AFTER we purchased tickets, the lady tells us they don't open until 12. Another hour...no refunds. i tell her what other associate had said and that we had reservations at 1, would we have time. She brushes it off to say tickets are good all day. Too bad the $8 we paid for parking wasn't... if we left we'd have to pay parking again..

So we took the chance, played more in the beach and went back at 11:45 where a long line had formed for people who'd already purchased tickets. 12 came and went, line longer. 12:15 came and went..line longer, babies and small kids getting overheated, elderly people getting tired as there's NO shade and it's 93 degrees. Employees could only say "routine maintenance is taking a little longer today". Turns out no one was there to even start this 'maintenance' until 12! 12:25...finally there were people being loaded. There's 42 carts on the ride, each holding about 4 people. Everyone should've been able to get on. But after 20 minutes of loading ( just 4 loading gates available), only half the ferris wheel was loaded and the ride started. After what appeared to be 2 full rotations with a stop at the top, the ride was over.

Finally it was our turn and by now it was 1. All of us had been in line in the heat with no shade for over an hour and when we finally got on, the ride took 5 minutes... 5 minutes. 2 rotations around and 2 pauses and that was it. Stepson was not happy either. There were many complaints about the process before the ride and complaints about it not being worth it after the ride. Many sentiments mimicked ours that this will not last long if they don't improve the process. My husband was livid. Thank God we didn't pay full price for this waste of money. Finally, the ride is hooked to a Restaurant which has a gift shop that the you must exit through where overpriced trinkets are then peddled to you... We had to reschedule our Helicopter flight which we just made b/c it started storming. (By the way, expensive & too many taxes and fees but nice ride & staff--huffman helicopters).

This Ferris wheel was a good idea & would offer a nice view if it lasted long enough for you to take it in from both sides but if this is how they are going to execute it- unprofessional, slow and tricky it's not going to be around long. Just my .02 cents.
