We celebrated our anniversary at Cafe Amalfi in February. The service was excellent and the food was world class. I had the lamb and my wife had the grouper. The view of the ocean at nite was breath taking. It was our first time visiting but will not be our last. I would recommend it to anyone for a special event or a change of scenery.

We had a lunch & 2 dinners here which were terrific. The menu is inventive and the food was very well prepared. At lunch we both had a bowl of seafood chowder which was excellent, with a freshly grilled shrimp & scallops on top of the chowder. One of my dinners was the sautéed lamb loin which came sliced over a bed of cucumber sauce, with green olives, pita bread, feta cheese and other little sides. I've never seen this before and it was inventive with wonderful, simple flavors. Service was very good: professional and friendly.

Breakfast on our second stay (a Sat.-Mon. stay) was really bad from a staffing point of view. There were lines 12 or more deep waiting to be seated and there were plenty of empty tables but only one poor bus man to handle them. There were insufficient wait staff who worked like dogs but couldn't keep up with the numbers of people and it was obvious from the wait staff apologies that the kitchen didn't have enough people to prep the orders. On our last morning it took over an hour for our continental breakfast which we served to ourselves, to get coffee and say we were getting the continental and have breakfast. The cafe clearly didn't anticipate the numbers and I know it is still off season but there was a disconnect between the hotel and the restaurant if they didn't know how many meetings, guests and weddings were going on resulting in a large number of people who would be descending on the restaurant for breakfast. The staff they had worked very hard and did as good a job as they could and I felt very badly for them. There is no other option for breakfast at the Hilton unless you leave the property so this is a definite black mark against them & Café Amalfi.

Having said that, I want to repeat that the menu and food was very good. Just fix the staffing!!

Food and view is awesome. Service is terrific. They do not rush you like most places. The servers, the menu, everything was great.

Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. Our server George and chef Michael were very personable and deserve to be commended. An enjoyable evening. We plan to go back again when we return to Myrtle Beach.
