We stayed during the week of 8/17-8/21 and were pretty disappointed with the accomodations. The reviews I read talk of the staff as very freindly (true for me, with two exceptions), clean rooms (took three rooms for us to just give up on this . . . ), and easy access/location to the beach (I will never look at the ocean the same again!). We enjoyed the time at the beach and watching the Sunrise on the water is something I won't forget. I don't know if this was just a bad week for Myrtle beach hotels (Sea Mist, Driftwood, etc.), but the rooms were not very clean. Room 1 (#225) we stayed in for 1 night and found that the AC outlet was hanging out of the wall and the chairs in the dining/kitchen area had their seats collapsing. We had two drawers in the dresser where the bottoms had fallen out and the tracking was on order per the Maintenence man as they were like this all over the hotel as were the chairs. As for the bedroom, I went down and asked for a hammer as the molding along the corner of the wall had broken prior to our arrival, leaving nails sticking out for one of us to get cut on. They handed me the hammer . . . . After going back down with the hammer and nails, they offered another room and handed me two keys, one for 227 (dirty and same issue with the chairs and drawers); electrical outlet in dining area hanging off. Room 427 was the best choice. My wife had to clean the bathroom floor as there was dried blood and 'other' that needed to be removed. The balcony had beer cans and cigarette butts lying around (no chairs). Only one drawer with a tracking problem in this room so it worked well for us (6). The maids (very freindly) took the sheets from the fold-out and didn't bring us fresh ones (nor trash can liners) so I went down to the office to get them. Talked with a dark-haired man who seemed bothered by my request (asked me why I didn't bring this to the attention of the maid staff before they left at 3 . . .) and said that he would (and did) have security deliver it (it was after 9 when we noticed it). The next day, the maids took the conforter/spread from the fold-out and didn't give a fresh once. We got back to the room around 8:30 so I went back to the office to request one; was given a wool blanket. Good service/freindly staff usually can make things that are not right much better, but with the condition of most of the rooms (we had reports from 324 and 108 (had to take a shower in 107 as they didn't want to call a plumber to fix a pipe for a couple of days). We even took pictures as the state of the rooms was beyond anything we had ever seen (other than one Days Inn in '94) and sent them off to the Department of Health and Environmental Controls for SC. We aren't real picky nor hard to please, but sorry to say that we won't be staying at the driftwood again. One first impression seems enough for us.

We've stayed at the Driftwood several times, and really miss it because we won't be there this year. The location is excellent; the rooms are clean. It is comfortable and a little like an old-fashioned beachvacation spot. The staff are friendly and responsive. The hotel is not big or pretentious, but offers an excellent, comfortable spot on the beach, close to activities and entertainment for a wide range of ages. We fell in love with it on our first trip, and we'll keep going back!

We have stayed that Driftwood for many years, we take our whole family most of the time. The rooms were spacious, clean, and we have always had a great view. The staff were great and always friendly and never got upset when we asked for clean towels, etc. nothing was ever a problem there and all staff members wanted make sure you were comfortable while staying there...we will continue to stay there...
