“Okay If On A Budget”
Reviewed July 12, 2007

We stayed at the Comfort Inn for a week in late June 2007. After reading some of the reviews, I was a little worried, but all in all, our experience with the hotel was fair. The rooms were very clean, but small. The first room they put us in did not have a bathtub, just a shower stall. Since we have a three year old, we called the front desk and requested to be moved to a room with a bathtub. They were very pleasant and said we could be moved the next morning. The bathrooms were tiny, with just the shower stall or tub and the toilet. The sink and mirror were outside in the room. The balcony was nice and the view of the beach was beautiful. The airconditioning didn't seem to work well in either room we were in, so we called and asked the front desk for maintance. Someone came up and fitted a piece of plastic over the unit so that the air blew more outward instead of up into the curtains and it did help a bit. But the room never got cold, just comfortable.

The continental breakfast was okay. The food was good, there was a "make your own waffle", bagels, muffins, dry cereal, oatmeal, coffee and juice. The only bad thing is that it is very very small in the lobby. People are fighting for tables and for space. You can barely eat without people bumping into you every five minutes since the sitting tables and food counters were so close together. But the food was good and free, so we did eat there most mornings. Other mornings we walked across the street to a Friendlies resturant and ate breakfast there and it was very good.

The beach was very nice and clean. The hotel was in walking distance to the Family Kingdom amusement park and water park. We walked to both one day and my daughter had a blast at both.

The outside pool at the hotel was nice also. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was clean and nice cold refreshing water. The beach chairs and lounges all seemed in perfect condition. There was an indoor pool and an indoor kiddy pool, but they both seemed a little grungy to me. The room smelled so strong of chlorine that it burned my eyes to be in there, and I wasn't even in the water. The kiddy pool looked very dingy. It looked like it was filled with water three years ago and left to sit since then. There were two sticks laying in the bottom of it, that I assume were chlorine sticks, and my daughter stepped on them and hurt her foot. We didn't stay in the kiddy pool for more than five minutes!
There was also no outside refreshments or stand at the hotel. There were vending machines in the one hall, and we did get snacks and drinks from the machines, but it would've been nice to have a little outdoor tiki bar.

The pool next door at the Westgate Oceanfront Hotel (formerly the Holiday Inn) looked amazing. They had a lazy river, adult pool, and kiddy pool with geisers and waterfalls. They also had music and an outdoor bar/restuarant. I wished we would have stayed there! The Comfort Inn really didn't have anything nice like that for the kids.

We did see a couple roaches in the hotel hallway (one dead) and one alive in the elevator. But I never saw any bugs in the hotel room. The hallways are open and exposed to outside and the elements, so it was really no big deal.

The elevators were not too good. There is only two for the entire hotel and if you are unlucky enough to be on the top two floors (as we were) then only one elevator can take you there. The elevators were EXTREMELY tiny and very very hot and slow. You could barely fit a luggage cart in there, or more than 4 people. It was very annoying after a while.

All in all, it was an okay hotel and we never really had any problems. As I said, the rooms were clean and comfortable. We care more about the beach and activities than the room, so we had a happy vacation. But if you can afford it, I would reccomend spending a bit more money to stay somewhere nicer. I know we will next time.

This was a great stay!!! We booked for the 28th through the 30th but wanted an extra day. We were upgraded to the apartment suite for just an extra $40.00. Excellant place , Great people!!!

My wife and I read all the reviews after booking our room and was scared to death and almost cancelled our room to book somewhere else. We decided to give it a try because the rates were so good. When we arrived at the hotel we were suprised because of all the bad comments we had read. Our room had a balcony overlooking the ocean and it was great. Our room was clean and the maids were great. We had a problem with our toliet backing up one morning and called the front desk and someone was at our door in seconds. Yeah, the hallways looked a little rough, but what do you expect with all the salt and sand. We had a great experience here and will stay here every year we visit Myrtle beach. It is a great value and the staff was very, very helpful. Where else can you get a ocean front room at this price????? We loved it.

My family and I just returned from a 4 day stay. I had read the reviews and they were up & down. All the personel at the hotel was friendly and courtious. Any time we called the front desk for anything, they were very helpful and friendly. The hotel property was clean and all appeared to be in working order. Housekeeping came every morning. Our first morning we did sleep in and instead of us having to track down someone to get fresh towels, etc. for the day, they left everything we would need in a bag outside the door. I appreciated that very much!! The free breakfast they offer was great! My family really liked the "make your own waffle". The rooms were clean. The hallways were clean, as well as they could be. Remember you are at the beach. Sand tracked in on feet is a common thing!!! Yes, a few of the lounge chairs had a slat cracked in them but there were plenty with out cracks too. The pool area (both outside and in) were fine and clean. The only complaint I could honistly give was a little more water pressure in the shower would be nice, but all and all, we enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

The hotel was rated 3 stars but only deserved 1 star. Condition of hotel needed lots of work. Carpet throughout hotel was raveling, stained, and in bad shape. Coffee pot filter was left in the coffee pot from the previous occupants. Housekeeping did not wipe down a spill on the table, was sticky. T.V. remote was taped to keep batteries in without the cover. Outside pool was not in good condition, didn't see any people using it. Pool chairs were resin chairs and I didn't find one that wasn't cracked and hurt to sit in, even with a towel on it. One plus was the continental breakfast, after you got over the smell of Pine Sol when you walked in. We did love the oceanfront view.

After reading the reviews for this hotel, my husband and I were scared to death, but. another couple booked the rooms and we had no choice but to go through with the stay. Upon our arrival at the hotel it looked fine. We had rented a one bedroom suite and all the reviews talked about how bad the rooms were but it turned out perfectly fine. It was clean, we had a great beach view, all rooms were oceanview, the maids were nice and breakfast was a ok. We had a loveseat and tv, fridge and microwave in living room and another tv in bedroom. My biggest complaint is all the chairs at the pool were broke in the middle and needed replacing and there were no umbrellas at the tables. The Holiday Inn next door looked like a better pool situation with a dj and great chairs if you are a pool buff but overall not near as bad, maybe they have done alot of improvements.

after reading some of the previous reviews i was a bit apprehensive, but i was locked into being in myrtle beach from 4/9-14 (spring break)...
i was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience... the hotel is right on the beach and has both indoor and outdoor pools...
the staff is more than helpful (that includes the notorious night manager...lol) and the rooms are comfortable and adequate... i had a 2nd floor room looking out on the beach and ocean, and i didn't have to deal with the elevators... parking is perfect for quick unloading/loading and the upgraded continental breakfast is, if nothing, a big favorite, especially with families and coffee starved people like myself... i used the coffee maker in the room, and the fridge lodged my milk, but sometimes you just want a cup midday, and the breakfast rooms's maker went all day...
while the bathrooms are a bit small and the vanity being on the opposite side of the room (it confused me for 5 days...lol) i managed just fine... you can walk to cvs, friendly's restaurant, a liquor store (mention the day manager's name) and the amusement park, and it's a 5-10 minute ride from almost everywhere...
all in all, while i sympathize with some of the people whose experience was somewhat less than perfect, i don't know what you want from a place that is $80-90 a night (less in off season i'd assume) that's right on the beach... i had a wonderful experience and would DEFINATELY stay there again, and i WILL be going back...
kudos to hotel and staff...
