“This is a BUSY place”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

1st time here, seeking a 2-day stay prior to reservations at Edisto Beach, S.C.
Very few sites available.
This is a LARGE State Park and surely a destination for vacationing families 'in-season'....
but in November I expected a more relaxed environment. This campground exhibited all the sights of an over-crowded, over-used state facility. Vehicles and RV's and tents populated the sites in
congested fashion, campers cut through sights in a bee-line to get to their goals, dogs barked and restroom facilities showed the heavy use and minimal maintenance.
There is plenty here...trails, beach, conveniences, but I'll likely pass next time.

“Sightseeing Opportunity”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

It was off season so the hiking trails were the best. Most of the services were off-line in November

“Lots to see, not expensive fun for everyone”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

We had no idea this would be so fun -- even in November. Great for families who want to go to the beach, couples who want to birdwatch (we even saw a Bald Eagle), a lovely Nature Center with lots of cool exhibits (closed on Mondays), and -- the home of the Huntingtons, a New York philanthropist and his sculptress wife, Anna. Many (85) of her works are in Brookgreen Gardens across the street from the State Park. The time to visit that is the spring when the azaleas are in bloom. Call and ask when they will be blooming. We really enjoyed Atalya. It is unique to say the least. When Anna wanted to sculpt animals, she wanted the live bear, horse, etc. So there are the enclosures for them. The campground is large with lots of lovely spaces. Good place for biking, hiking, fishing. There is a nice gift shop. A lot of bang for the buck here.

“Very cool visit”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

Although it was cloudy and pretty chilly, we had a great time at the park. Admission is $5 per person and you can come and go all day until the park closes. We went through the mansion inside which was an additional $2 per person which I think is pretty crappy since you've already paid, but it's $2 and was a neat mansion. We walked on the north beach all the way to the left and found several starfish on the rocks, which made the trip all worth while. I'm a photographer and had ample photo opts in park. If it would have been warmer, I would have stayed until it closed!
