“Complete your Brookgreen experience...”
Reviewed April 4, 2012

...with a visit to the Huntingtons home, Atalaya (or, more precisely, to the "remains" of it). The home sat vacant for many years so it's not furnished but it's an amazing testament to two remarkable people who used their vast wealth to benefit the local community and create a lasting legacy. And, see what natural beach, free from overbuilding and commercialism, really looks like.

“Fabulous Beach”
Reviewed April 4, 2012

Beautiful beach plus so much more! The ruins are worth the small fee to take a look and try to imagine what an amazing place the Atalaya must have been in its prime! The nature trail is also wonderful as are the alligator observation decks!

“Solitude”
Reviewed April 2, 2012

The beach here is lovely, deserted especially in winter. Lots of wildlife and nature. On a pretty winter's day, one can walk for miles or lie in the sunshine and read or write; photographer's dream!

“Winter house Atalaya”
Reviewed March 31, 2012

Myrtle Beach area has limited historical sites, this one is worth the drive even thoug I thought the entry fee to the park was a bit pricey for a recreational area, $5 per person. We went on a windy day which was the first mistake, you couldn't walk on the beach long without becoming uncomfortable. There was not much to see on the beach and the marsh area was having a "salt" issue so the alligators had relocated so we didn't get to see them. We did pay the $1 fee extra to view the Moorish style house, we waited around for the guided tour, our guide Joan did a very good job portraying the life of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington.
