“Beautiful place!”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

We have been here quite a few times when we're in the area. It is beautiful and relaxing and the gardens and sculptures are amazing. During the month of December they open on weekend nights and it is all lit with candles and have carolers. I loved this and hope to go back this December. But any time you go this is a beautiful place.

“Beautiful Any Time Of Year”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

We visited here last week and were again blown away by how incredibly beautiful this place is even at the end of October. Water lilies were blooming and some of the summer plantings were still in evidence. We have never been here during the winter but we were talking to a group of locals who were telling us how beautiful it is when the camellias bloom during the winter. Volunteers were busy putting up strand after strand of small lights which are utilized for their Christmas celebration. The gardens are sure to be breathtaking!

When you pay the very modest entrance fee here you are entitled to come back for free anytime in that same week. We do that exact thing on every trip. Then we can stroll leisurely through the gardens and really enjoy the sculptures and ,sometimes, sit on one of the many benches and take in the many varied vistas of Brookgreen. There are optional tours that do cost extra . We have taken them all over the years and they are all good. The butterfly house is also an additional charge. Brookgreen's animal area has been improved over the years and we really have fun at the river otter exhibit area. There also sculpture galleries that are well worth the time to go through. Their gift shop is first rate. We have not eaten at their cafe recently because we love to pack a picnic lunch. Their picnic area is nothing special but there are several tables and many people take advantage of them.

“Fabulous aviary”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

Loved it all, but the enclosed aviary is so spectacular that we forget all about the almost invisible netting. I also loved the otter tank and all of the sculptures scattered through out the park. We had a wonderful patio lunch before we left ... a lovely setting for a chance to sit down!

“Ever Changing-Simply Amazing!”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

That is their slogan/motto and they are true to the words. This place is simply amazing-gorgeous, lush gardens filled with really great statues and the landscaping is superb! The Tour Guide definitely knows the true meaning of Southern Hospitality. Be sure to visit the several galleries as well as the zoo and aviary. It is well worth the price of admission-not many places that grants admission for a full seven consecutive days.

“Wonderful visit, terrific tour guide, great statues”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

The gardens in Oct were truly wonderful. The statues throughout the garden are well-placed and add to the relaxing atmosphere. Take the tour of the garden and learn a great deal of the history. We LOVED the variety of fountains, arrangements of flowers, the beautiful oak allee with caladiums underplanted.
The Mother Nature's Café is a tour offered where one walks with a guide through the barn animals, an aviary and into a swampland. We were VERY disappointed with the guide as she really did not feed all the animals but only certain ones. The alligator sighting promised did not happen. The birds in the aviary are territorial and too little space for them to nest. The guide should have moved the group through faster. It was like a scene from "The Birds" movie.
The swamp land was so very interesting as was seeing the foxes. The best alligator sighting was the statue.
The tour of the cemetery and historical grounds was well-done and narrated. we spent 2 half days there and will return in one spring for that view.
The gift shop had some good pricing and we were able to get some nice prints, notepaper and other rememberances.
GO VISIT is you are in the area!
The tickets are good for a number of days.
