we went here late Oct/early Nov for a long weekend to see some "The Waterfalls of South Carolina" by Benjamin Brooks and Tim Cook. This book includes 27 falls, so we had to choose carefully with only two days!

In one long day, we visited Bee Cove (difficult hike), Spoonauger, and King Creek Falls, both of the latter farily easy, reached on adjacent trails, with King Creek probably our favorite.

In another short day driving home, we saw Isaqueena (mostly a view station from afar), Station Cove (fantastic with a nice, easy hike) and Twin Falls (easy hike and great view from the trail shelter).

We started in Oconee County and rented a cabin at Oconee State Park - very nice. Fully furnished, including linens and a fireplace - nice, warm way to wind down after a long hike without pitching a tent (we had already been camping the two weekends before!)

While staying in Oconee State Park, we went into Walhalla for dinner, to Tommy's on Main. It's Italian, and the pizza was reasonably priced with fantastic taste! I thought the service was a little slow, until we got our pizza made to order and loaded with truly fresh ingredients. This is not the kind of pizza you get in Italy, with the thin crust and light cheese - Tommy's is heavy on crust and cheese and fresh ingredients. It is the best pizza I've had in a restaurant since my last trip to Italy!

Can't wait to go back and see more of "the Waterfalls of SC", stay in Oconee State Park, and have dinner again at Tommy's.

If not for the cacophony of barking dogs this would be a wonderful and peaceful campground. Since most people don't know how or refuse to keep their pets quiet it might be best to adopt a no pets policy. Also, most campsites are right on top of one another. I thought I was fortunate to get one with plenty of "privacy" but dog owners used the preciously scarce extra space around my site to let their dogs relieve themselves. And even though it was only 20 feet from my tent it was still technically "woods" so no one picked the crap up.

Stayed for 10 days on Site 014 August 2011. Had 5 year old Grandson. Absolutely loved it. Love the mountains, cooler weather for August, and nice sites. Went to Fish Hatchery, a must to see. Rented a peddle boat at lake. Watch out for the squirrels. They are quite a nuisance. For instance, one day while exploring for the day, we came home to our screen house invaded by the critters. They took a jar of peanut butter off the picnic table that was in the screen house, pushed it off the table, rolled it under the side of the screen house and down a hill. Then they proceeded in chewing at the lid until it opened and it's a party for them. Only disappointment I had was the ladies' washrooms. Disgusting. Went to office and complained and they immediately got someone on it. But I read review here at Trip Advisor from a visitor to this park in 2009, and they complained of the very same thing. All in all, Grandson loved every bit of it from fishing, peddle boating, hiking, swimming and of course, eating those darn Smores!!!
