“Good place to sleep”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2012 via mobile

Nice place to stay. Price just right. Right in the middle of things. Clean and friendly. Stay there everytime I come to town................. Not to far from down town. Just right off the highway. And a good night sleep......

Good location for visiting charleston, easy short drive to city centre. Nice staff, alexis at reception was helpful.
I thought the room was too dark, badly designed so the lights needed to be on during the day. Otherwise our stay was comfortable. Lots of restaurants within a very short drive.

We just spent several days at the Hampton Inn Patriots Point which is located just across the Ravenel Bridge from Charleston, SC. My wife and I had a very nice experience at this hotel. You can easily get to the historic district of Charleston from this hotel in about 10 to 15 minutes by car depending on traffic in Charleston itself. The trip across the bridge is about 5 minutes by car and it places you right on Meeting Street about a mile or two north of the main visitors center on Meeting. If you are so inclined, you can use the water taxi at Patriots Point for your transportation to the city as well. The water taxi stop is about 3/4 to a mile from the front door of the hotel. You can also walk to a super market, restaurants and a shopping center from the hotel but you would probably prefer to use your car to do that. The shopping center is within a few blocks of the hotel but it is on the Frontage Rd that parallels RT 17 which is not very walker friendly especially in the evening. The hotel itself is an older Hampton Inn but the building is well maintained. The grounds are nothing to write home about and somewhat lacking compared to other hotels in the Charleston area but hotel building itself was as good as most other Hamptons I've stayed at. We had a King-Bed room and it came with microwave, a mini-refrigerator and flat screen TV. It was comfortable. The staff was very professional and friendly. The hotel is tucked back in an area with three other older hotels. The parking lot is a bit tight but you could always find a spot somewhere on the property. It has a nice pool area but overall, the lot the hotel sits on is a bit small and there is not much to see out any of the windows so there are no rooms with great views. However, the hotel was peaceful and quiet. Even though it was fairly close to Rt 17, we never noticed any road noise. If you like to run or walk for exercise, the hotel is close to the walking path that goes over the Ravenel Bridge-- gives you about a 5 mile run or walk over and back plus spectacular views of Charleston. The start of the path is just about a 1/2 mile from the hotel. The hotel provided a good breakfast each morning-- it was a little better than you would normally find at a typical Hampton Inn. This Hampton Inn has better pricing than many other Hamptons in the Charleston area. The Hampton Patriots Point really gets you into the historic area fast compared to the others located outside the historic area so that is an advantage. It is not as convenient as a hotel that is located directly in the historic district and certainly doesn't have the same ambiance, but the price is far more reasonable. Also, the hotel is located close to restaurants and shopping along Coleman Rd/ Rt 703 in Mount Pleasant and Shem Creek so you have an alternative if you don't want to go into the city. Be advised that they do charge more for Friday and Saturday nights and you will get better pricing if you book at least 2 weeks in advance.

We stayed here for a timeshare presentation in October 2012. At first I was irked we were staying at a Hampton Inn, but it turned out to be great. The location was right off the bridge, and had easy access to Patriots Point and all the attractions in that area, and not too far from Sullivan's Island. Our room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the complimentary coffee, tea, and lemonade in the lobby was a great amenity. The complimentary, HOT breakfast was great too, and there was something for everyone. My only true complaint is that when I asked where to go for a romantic dinner on a Saturday night (it was our 5th anniversary), the front desk 1) didn't really know the area, which was a bit frustrating 2) lied about not needing reservations for Magnolia's. I specifically asked the day before, so that if we needed reservations, we'd have them. But when they assured me we didn't need reservations because it was a tourist thing, I was beyond irked when we got there at 7pm and told I needed a reservation because they were booked until 9:30. Even though I should have known better about needing reservations for a Saturday night, the front desk staff should have been more knowledgeable about local restaurants. After all, they're the ones who work in the area, not me.
Regardless of their lack of knowledge, based on the room itself and its location, I would definitely stay here again.

This was a nice experience. Very clean & comfortable room. It is out of the traffic but close to lots of things to do. Enjoyed our stay. There are several restaurants in the area, also. Love their beds!

We stay at Hampton Inn's 90% of the time and usually find the staff all very cordial and helpful. On our present trip, we stayed and a total of 4 different Hampton's, three of them as we were traveling to and from the Charleston area, but this hotel we stayed at for five nights. The front desk was courteous when asked questions, but the ones that we encounted seemed clueless when we asked questions about the local area. They seemed to shy away from personally interacting with the guests. At all of our other stops, the staff have made us feel very welcome.

One other thing that especially stood out to us was when there was any rain, the area just before the front doors had standing water that you had to wade through or totally detour around to get into the front of the hotel. It didn't look like a new problem, but one that was tolerated by management.

As for the positive, it is reasonably priced and extremely convenient to the majority of the Charleston area. We could easily be downtown in ten minutes without having to fight too much traffic, plus there are several restaurants very close.

We have stayed here twice in the past couple of years for our jaunts to Charleston. It is a clean, nice hotel in a great location! It is right down the road from Sullivan's Island (our beach of choice when we visit) and just across the Cooper River Bridge from downtown Charleston. The staff is always accommodating and the rooms are always very clean. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting this gorgeous city!
